  • The hosts looked deflated and devoid of any kind of inspiration with the pink cherry. When there wasn't much assistance for the bowlers, they should have applied the pressure and then bought the wickets through that. But instead, gave up and were essentially just waiting for time to tick along. Yasir Shah, like he has been for his side, was the only saving grace in their performance. He ended up with 6 scalps but had to work really hard for it. Now, with the ball gripping and turning, and the Islanders having two proper spinners in their ranks, the task will be a difficult one to say the least. Let's see how they fare under lights. Don't go anywhere, play will resume shortly...
  • Sri Lanka have finished with a big first innings total on the board. For the most part of the game, the visitors dominated proceedings with the bat. Dimuth Karunaratne was the focal point of it all as he stuck around and took all the bite out of the Pakistan bowling attack. He was unfortunate to miss out on a double ton, but nevertheless, did his job. Was part of 5 good partnerships, the most notable of them being the one with his skipper. The 146-run stand was the pillar of this innings and it ultimately saw the Lankans cruise to a total close to 500.
  • 159.2 OUT! That does it! Typical leg spinner's dismissal. Tossed up on middle and leg, spins a shade as Pradeep brings his bat around his pad to defend. It takes the edge and flies straight into the hands of Asad Shafiq at second slip, who gobbles it up with ease. SRI LANKA ARE BOWLED OUT FOR 482!
  • 159.1 Flighted on the stumps, swept away through mid-wicket. Single taken as the fielder in the deep mops it up.
  • 158.6 Similar to what happened on the previous delivery. It's a length ball outside off, Pradeep plays inside the line and gets beaten. 481/9
  • 158.5 Holds its line outside off, he plays inside the line and ends up getting beaten past the outside edge.
  • 158.4 Good length ball just around off, Pradeep with a solid defensive shot presented off the back foot.
  • 158.3 Cutting back in from around off, Pradeep stays back and meets it with a straight bat.
  • 158.2 Short of a good length angling into the body, pulled along the ground to deep square leg. One run added to the total.
  • 158.1 Bumper angling across, Herath is watchful as he lets the ball sail over his head.
  • 157.6 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat. 480/9
  • 157.5 Outside off, with some turn and bounce, the left-hander misses the reverse sweep and the keeper fails to collect as well. This allows the batsmen to steal a bye.
  • 157.4 Fraction straight in line, swept fine towards short fine leg. No run taken.
  • 157.3 Googly around off, Rangana is down to sweep but misses it altogether.
  • 157.2 FOUR! Just back of a driving length as it's pitched outside off, Herath connects the reverse sweep well as he beats the man at short third man. Nobody out there in the deep so the ball will run away to the boundary line.
  • 157.1 Starts the over from around the wicket, drops it around off and it spins in sharply. Going down in fact, Herath kneels down to sweep but misses. There's a shout for a caught behind, nothing from the umpire though.
  • 156.6 Well outside off, Pradeep has nothing to do with that one. 475/9
  • 156.5 Keeps it full again, around off, good line. Pradeep can only defend.
  • 156.4 Fuller in length, outside the line of off stump, Rangana Herath with a drive through the covers. It earns him an easy single.
  • 156.3 Connects this time, cuts it away square on the off side but finds the fielder.
  • 156.2 On a length again, in that off stump channel, Herath plays for it but misses.
  • 156.1 Shaping away from around off, Herath looks to cut but misses.
  • Nuwan Pradeep is the last man in for Sri Lanka.
  • 155.6 OUT! 5-fer for Yasir Shah! His 13th in Test match cricket. Some good piece of bowling from him again. Seeing Gamage give the charge, he fires it wide outside off. Sarfraz has a lot of time to take the bails off and he does so, while the batsman attempts to get back in. Replays confirm that Lahiru is indeed gone and that's one more wicket down. 474/9
  • A stumping decision against Lahiru Gamage is referred upstairs by the umpire.
  • 155.5 Loud shout for an lbw, declined instantly! The big stride saved him and the impact was probably outside off too. Full around off with not much turn, Gamage lunges ahead to block but is caught on the front pad. Nothing from the umpire though, good decision in the end.
  • 155.4 A bit fuller than Yasir would have liked, the ball as a result doesn't turn much and it's defended into the track.
  • 155.3 Switches the angle for Gamage, it's flat and quick on middle and leg, defended down on the leg side with soft hands.
  • 155.2 Landed outside off, Rangi drags the sweep and places it down towards fine leg for a single.
  • 155.1 Looped up from around the wicket, outside off, Herath plants his front foot forward and defends it off the inner half past the short leg fielder.
  • 154.6 Moves a step across, gets behind the line and defends it with the full face of the bat. 473/8
  • 154.5 Length ball around off, keeps slightly low and beats the batsman for pace too. He looks to force it away on the off side but fails to make connect.
  • 154.4 Bouncer! The batsman ducks under the bouncer at the last moment.
  • 154.3 Attempted yorker which just misses. It tails back in and Gamage takes it on the full. Only manages a drive as far as the cover fielder.
  • 154.2 Outside off on a good length, no trouble for Gamage to let it be.
  • 154.1 Fuller length delivery on off, Gamage with a solid front foot defense.
  • 153.6 Dipping and turning into Rangana Herath, he looks to tickle it but it goes off the inner edge down the leg side. 473/8
  • 153.5 Outside off on a fuller length, reverse swept by Herath. Finds the fielder at point so no run taken.
  • 153.4 The batsman has played it to the point region. They pick up a single.
  • 153.3 Turning in on off, swept away through square leg for a single.
  • 153.2 He did not pick that up at all! Ripper from Yasir Shah. Wrong 'un around off, Herath is forward to defend but the ball takes the outside edge and goes right between the keeper and first slip. Two runs are taken.
  • 153.1 Spinning in from outside off, Herath moves across his sticks to meet the ball with his bat, but instead, does it with his thigh pad.
  • The debutant, LAHIRU GAMAGE, is the next man in.
  • 152.6 OUT! Lakmal is gone! Abbas gets another wicket to his name. Length delivery tailing back in, catches Lakmal on the pads as he misses his flick. Loud shout and after some thought, the umpire's finger goes up. The Lankan pacer reviews it as he think it might be angling down. It's taken upstairs and replays show that the ball is hitting leg stump. So three reds and he's gone. 469/8
  • Suranga Lakmal is caught leg before and adjudged out by umpire Richard Kettleborough. The batsman has, however, decided to review it and so it's taken upstairs. Looks close, let's see what happens now.
  • 152.5 Short in length again, Lakmal goes back and pulls it hard, finds the mid-wicket fielder this time.
  • 152.4 On the shorter side of the length again, Lakmal meets it with a straight blade in defense.
  • 152.3 Just back of a length very close to the off stump, kept out down on the track from within the crease.
  • 152.2 FOUR! Dropped short and Lakmal has made him pay! On middle stump, Lakmal rocks back and with a little swivel muscles the pull over mid-wicket for a one-bounce boundary.
  • 152.1 Good length delivery on the sixth stump line, Lakmal seeing the room looks to cut it away. The inward movement though cramps him and hence, it goes off the inside edge and falls next to him.
  • 151.6 Around the wicket to Rangi, the southpaw plays the reverse sweep towards point. Straight to the fielder so no run taken. 465/7
  • 151.5 Leans ahead a touch and knocks it down towards long off for one.
  • 151.4 Works it off his pads and places it away on the on side.
  • 151.3 Big swing and a big miss! Yasir tosses it up on the stumps, Suranga Lakmal in an attempt to clear Dubai, swings wildly across the line. Doesn't connect with anything but thin air as the ball goes over the stumps.
  • 151.2 Tad quicker, flatter and outside off, pushed away into the off side for nothing.
  • 151.1 Quicker one on middle stump, turning a bit as well, Suranga goes deep inside the crease and blocks it right under his nose.
  • 150.6 Speared wide, very wide. The batsman can't get to it. 464/7
  • 150.5 Rolls his fingers over this and takes some pace off it, Herath fails to guide it down to third man as he's quite early into the shot.
  • 150.4 Just ahead of a length and outside off, Herath looks to play the expansive drive but gets it off the inner half back down towards mid off.
  • 150.3 Makes connection this time. Cuts it sweetly but finds the man at point.
  • 150.2 Another one wide outside off, another flash and another miss.
  • 150.1 Length delivery angled way across, Herath throws his bat at that, only to connect with thin air.
  • 149.6 The batsman goes after this one but misses the line completely. 464/7
  • 149.5 Quite full on the stumps, Lakmal looks to flick but closes the face too early. Spoons a leading edge which falls safely at mid-wicket.
  • 149.4 Googly on middle and off, the batsman goes back and works it on the leg side.
  • 149.3 Some good turn again, outside off, Lakmal misses another attempt to get some bat on it.
  • 149.2 Floats it right up there, on middle and off, kept out off the front foot.
  • 149.1 Lovely tossed up delivery outside off, Lakmal is forward to defend but is beaten by the turn past the outside edge.
  • 148.6 Short ball around off and middle, pulled away to fine leg for one run. 464/7
  • 148.5 Similar delivery around off, driven to covers.
  • 148.4 Pitched further up outside off, Lakmal smashes it through covers where Yasir dives and saves a certain boundary. Riaz hugs him for the effort.
  • 148.3 On a length outside off, the ball nips in a bit. Lakmal gets an inside edge onto his pads as he pushes at it from the crease.
  • 148.2 A tad fuller around middle and leg, pushed off the front foot to mid on.
  • 148.1 Length delivery outside off, cut away through point for one run.
  • ABBAS to bowl.
  • 147.6 Loopy ball around off, Herath gets an inside edge onto his pads towards covers for a run. 462/7
  • 147.5 Flatter around middle, flicked away round the corner.
  • 147.4 This ball is swept to square leg.
  • 147.3 Loopy ball around off spinning in, Herath misses the sweep and gets hit on the pads.
  • 147.2 Tossed up ball around off, spins down the leg side. Herath leaves it alone.
  • 147.1 Begins with a loopy ball outside off, Herath prods forward in defense, gets an inside edge next to short leg.
  • The men who matter walk out to the middle. Herath and Lakmal will walk to resume their innings with the bat. For Pakistan, Yasir Shah will start off the proceedings with the ball. A slip and a short leg in place.
  • DAY 2, SESSION THREE...
  • The hosts' body language has just not been positive. They have offered free runs on many occasions and just not looked threatening. With Amir out with an injury, they have got a setback even before the match reaches the halfway stage. Yasir Shah restored some pride for them by picking up his fourth wicket. Unless something drastically changes, expect the next session to pan the same way. Join us in a while for the resumption.
  • Sri Lanka all the way! They continue to dominate the game. The seeds to this tall score were sown by Karunaratne, who was really unlucky to not get to a deserving double ton. Of course, that's how sport is, but that innings just deflated the Pakistan fielders to no end. Adding salt to injury were Dickwella and Perera, who notched up their respective fifties.
  • 146.6 Flatter around off, Lakmal gets it off the inside half of his bat towards square leg. That's DINNER, DAY 2! 461/7

He fails to cover the line of the ball and ends up missing the ball completely. The ball pitches in the rough besides the batsman's leg and spins in to rattle the woodwork behind. • 133.6 OUT! The tentativeness has caused Karunaratne his wicket! It had been a good knock till this moment but now that's it. Riaz bowls it on a length around off, Karunaratne pokes his bat at it and ends up chopping the ball onto his back thigh and then onto his stumps. He played so, so well till then but started looking uncharacteristically tentative and quiet as he neared the landmark. Fatigue might have got to him as he ended up losing his concentration, which proved to be fatal. But despite all that... Well played, Dimuth Karunaratne! You've done a fine job. 429/6

  • 125.1 FOUR! Roshan Abeysinghe informs us that Perera debuted as an opener, and this shot is an ample proof of the reason! A shot that any top order batsman would be proud of. It was on a length outside off, Dilruwan took a stride forward and caressed it through covers for a boundary.
  • 124.6 Flatter quicker ball around off, Perera is hurried on as he goes back to cut. Gets it towards point for a run. But the players appeal thinking it to be pad first. 400/5
  • 124.5 Beautiful spin bowling. Shah tosses it around off, Perera lunges forward to block but the ball spins away past the edge of the bat.

Karunaratne and Dickwella will resume their innings. Yasir Shah to start the proceedings with the pink cherry. A short leg in place. Let's roll...
  • DAY 2, SESSION TWO...
  • Pakistan were anything from bad to worse in this session. Their bowlers were unable to maintain any kind of rhythm, complicating matters for their skipper. Add to that an off-colour Wahab Riaz, who bowled almost an 8-minute over - things look uphill for them as they stand. On top of that, their premier speedster, Amir, is struggling with a niggle and has been off field for some time now. The hosts would hope that this is a break which would help them regroup and recoup and come back strong. Do join us in a while for the second phase of play.
  • 101 runs in this session, shows which side the see-saw has tilted. Sri Lanka continued inflicting misery on the hosts as they punished the bowlers. Karunaratne and Chandimal continued belting runs before the latter was dismissed LBW. He got a rough deal as the ball would have missed the stumps, as seen in the replays. But from the moment Dickwella walked in, he has been on a run-scoring spree, being severe especially on the spinners. Along with the opener, he has kept the Lankans on course for a strong total first-up.
  • 115.6 Fired down the leg side, Karunaratne misses the flick. The ball kisses the pads and lands in the keeper's gloves. That's TEA, DAY 2! 355/4

  • 114.5 Now comes from over the wicket and bowls it outside off, Dickwella collects a single for a run.
  • Now again Riaz had to abort his run up! Before you start thinking, this time it is because the batsman has an issue with the sightscreen! among all these aborted run ups, Ahmed behind the stumps has done numerous squats!

  • 113.6 Darted full on leg, this time Dimuth manages to pad it away. 346/4
  • 113.6 Wide! Down the leg side, Dimuth looks to pad it away but misses. Wide called by the umpire, probably because of the warning given to Shafiq from yesterday for bowling negatively too frequently.

  • 113.4 Flat and a tad shorter around off, punched into the covers for nothing.

  • 113.2 Over the wicket now, it's landed outside leg and it's turning. Karunaratne looks to flick but gets a leading edge towards point.

  • 110.5 And finally, Riaz delivers the ball! Bangs a short ball around off, Karunaratne sways away and lets that go.
  • Twice in quick succession, Riaz has missed his run up. He runs to the bowling mark and aborts. As I write this, he does it for the third time! Pakistan's coach Mickey Arthur is seen covering his eyes, not able to believe what's happening out there. And again! Fourth consecutive time! This time he leaps and then aborts bowling that. Meanwhile, as Riaz re-marks his run up, Sarfraz Ahmed catches a drinks break. The commentators on-air are unable to believe the fact that the bowler is losing his rhythm in the middle of the spell. Mind you, WAHAB RIAZ RUNS IN AND ABORTS FOR THE FIFTH TIME! He has almost run an over all by himself! Unbelievable! It's not what you expect from a senior bowler in the side!

  • The batsmen are having a change of gloves. Meanwhile, thinking about the threat of the reverse sweep, Pakistan have two fielders manning the boundary deep on the off side.
  • 108.6 On a length in line of the stumps, defended from the crease. 326/4
  • 108.5 FOUR! Beautifully played! Abbas lands it full outside off, Karunaratne drives it wide of mid off. Ali rushes there, puts in the dive but fails to stop the ball and it races away for a boundary.

  • 105.2 Flatter and quicker down the leg side, Niroshan looks to flick it but misses. Needs to bowl more of these.
  • Sarfraz is seen having a chat with Yasir. The talk might be about bowling the right lines as per the field. They have a 7-2 leg side field. Also, to bowl quicker should be the plan in order to give less time for the batsmen to play.
  • 105.1 FOUR! Risky but effective! The dimunitive batsman is intent on attacking the spinner. Shah tosses this around off, Dickwella reverse sweeps it aerially over backward point for a boundary. Probably the leg side heavy field might have made him play this shot.
  • 104.6 Karunaratne plays this delivery from within the crease. 302/4
  • 104.5 Length delivery outside off, punched towards covers.
  • 104.4 This ball around off is defended off the front foot onto the ground.

  • Drinks have been taken! Sri Lanka's hour yet again. Although they lost the sole wicket of Chandimal, Karunaratne has carried from where he left last night and has crossed 150 yet again. • 103.5 150 for Karunaratne, his third score in the 150s! Shah serves a loopy ball around off, Dimuth looks to defend it off his front foot but the extra bounce makes the ball take the inside edge, hit his pads and lob past short leg. He takes a single that takes him to the milestone. Soaks in all the applause that he gets and deserves.

  • 101.4 OUT! The leg spinner strikes to provide a big breakthrough! Yasir Shah bowls a flatter and straighter delivery around off, Chandimal offers his pad to that instead of the bat. The ball strikes the pad and he looks a dead duck. The players appeal and the umpire upholds the appeal. The Lankan skipper doesn't bother reviewing that as he knows he makes a cardinal sin there. That ends a good 146-run stand. But hang on, Hawk Eye shows that the ball would have gone on to miss the stumps! My goodness! It looked like a straighter delivery but the technology showed it to spin a bit and miss the stumps. Going by it, Pakistan could count themselves lucky to get away with that.

  • 90.5 Now Riaz comes round the wicket and lands it outside off, Chandimal points his bat skywards in response.
  • 90.4 A tad fuller around off, Chandimal plays it through backward point for a brace.
  • 90.3 FOUR! 13th Test fifty for the Sri Lankan skipper! And what a way to get the first runs of the day! Length delivery around middle and leg, Chandimal stays deep in the crease and just clips it through backward square leg for a boundary.
  • 90.2 Another full delivery outside off, Dinesh covers the stumps and lets that through.

  • So we are all set for play! The home side has a short huddle just for some final discussions. The news is that Mohammad Amir is available and fit to bowl. Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal stride out to resume their innings with the bat. Amir cannot bowl for 12 minutes as he was off yesterday and so Pakistan begin with Wahab Riaz! Two slips in place. Let's roll...
  • The way they are playing, who would have imagined that Sri Lanka were the underdogs at the start of this series. Dimuth Karunaratne is still unbeaten after scoring a century and would look to continue from where he left off last night. He is amidst an unbeaten century stand with Chandimal, who has looked poised to say the least. The hosts would be happy that the scoring rate has been fairly low and the game isn't out of their grasps yet. Stay tuned for what promises to be another absorbing day of Test cricket!
  • Hello everybody! Mohammad Amir walked out of the field without completing his over late in the final session - it is with this memory that I welcome you to our coverage of Day 2 of this pink ball Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. How is he now? Would he take part in the proceedings of the day's play? Is he fit enough to bowl menacing spells to make life difficult for the opposition batsmen? These are the questions that every cricket enthusiast will have in mind. The home side would want him and the other bowlers, too, to skittle out the opposition as quickly as they can.
  • DAY 2, SESSION ONE...
  • It already seems to be slipping away from Pakistan, although Sri Lanka have not run away with the game yet, owing to their slow scoring rate. The home team needs wickets and that too in heaps to stay relevant. It's them who are behind the 8-ball at this point as far as the series is concerned and will have to make the move. Sri Lanka on the other hand will be satisfied with their progress and will look to bat for as long as possible. Promises to be a riveting day tomorrow. Do join us at 1400 local (1000 GMT) for all the action. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!
  • Pakistan did manage to claw their way back after the tea break, picking two wickets in quick time but what followed next was an unbeaten century stand between Dimuth Karunaratne and skipper Dinesh Chandimal. It's been a nearly chanceless knock from the pair (Chandimal dropped on 1 by Abbas) and the opener, in particular, batted with a lot of composure. The Sri Lankan skipper has batted in his typical style, consuming too many balls but his concentration has been top notch to tire the opposition bowlers who anyways were flat on most occasions. Amir rushed off the field close to the end of day's play and his fitness will be closely monitored for tomorrow.
  • End of a satisfying day's play for Sri Lanka. They won an important toss on a batting-friendly track and their openers provided a decent start after weathering the early storm. Yasir Shah provided Pakistan with their first breakthrough but after that we witnessed a young man, on his debut, giving us a glimpse of some extraordinary batting, reminding many of the great Mahela Jayawardene. Yes, I'm talking about Sadeera Samarawickrama who was absolutely brilliant in his little knock which was studded with delightful strokes.
  • 89.6 Tossed up ball on of, Karunaratne gets it away from the inner half of the bat to square leg. Stumps on day 1! 254/3

  • 89.2 Spinning down the leg side, Dimuth lets it takes his pads on its way towards leg gully.
  • 89.1 Sharp spin back into the batsman from outside off, Karunaratne tries defending but misses and is hit on the pads.
  • 88.6 Too straight in line on this occasion. Chandimal eases it behind square leg and takes a couple of runs. 254/3
  • 88.5 This is beautiful bowling by Abbas. He is getting the ball to nip around. Another one in the trajectory outside off, Chandimal pushes inside the line, flat-footed, and gets beaten.
  • 88.4 Not out! It was an excellent delivery, angling in around off on a fuller length and nipping away a shade after pitching. Chandimal lunges to work it on the leg side but is squared up while doing so. It takes his pads and runs past the keeper and the slip fielders for a boundary. They appeal but the umpire stays unmoved. Sarfraz thinks for a while and then opts for the DRS. The replays roll in and it detects a tiny outside edge. The decision stays as it is, only change - it's been told to the umpire to give it as FOUR runs as umpire Kettleborough gave it leg byes initially. 250 up for Sri Lanka.
  • Shout for an lbw, not given. Sarfraz Ahmed thinks for some time before taking the referral.
  • 88.3 FOUR! Sweetly timed! Full in length on middle, Chandimal leans forward and across before clipping it beautifully in front of square leg for a glorious boundary.

  • 86.5 Straighter in line, worked on the leg side but straight to the fielder.
  • 86.4 Beaten! Fine delivery. Full in length just around off, bringing the batsman forward. Karunaratne tries blocking it but it nips away to beat the outside edge.
  • 86.3 Way wide outside off, an easy leave for Karunaratne.
  • 86.2 Play and a miss! On a good length outside off, a little too close to cut but Dimuth still goes after it. Ends up swishing and missing.
  • 86.1 Full in length outside off, Karunaratne drives it off his front foot to covers.
  • Dinesh Chandimal is still down. He looks to be in some serious pain out there. The physio attends him and after a few sprays and some treatment, he's alright to play.
  • 85.6 NOT OUT! Pakistan lose a review! For the last ball of the over, Amir goes around the wicket for the last ball of the over, pitches it on off and it comes back into Chandimal who offers no stroke and is hit on the back leg somewhere near the knee. He is down in pain but Pakistan are desperately appealing. Umpire Nigel Llong stays unmoved. Sarfraz Ahmed after a chat with his bowler, opt for the review. Replays show the ball was not doing much and would have missed the stumps. Impact cannot be an issue here anyway as the batsman was not offering shot. 243/3
  • A loud shout for an LBW but umpire Nigel Llong stays put. It has hit Chandimal on the back leg, near the knee roll. After a thought, Sarfraz opts to review it...

  • 85.4 Comes back in from outside off, Chandimal defends it down.

  • 85.2 Slants it away on a length outside off, shouldered arms to.
  • 85.1 Slightly short and served around off, blocked off the back foot gently.

While Pakistan were clinical to begin with, the visiting skipper Chandimal and the opener Karunaratne have ensured that there are no more slip-ups. What would be more encouraging for them is the fact that Amir is looking good with the ball and so is Shah. The set Karunaratne was also troubled on a couple of occasions. • 37.1 OUT! No, Mendis! You shouldn't have gone for it so early! Now Yasir Shah gets a wicket! The change of ends works for him. He tosses it up around middle and off, Mendis cannot resist the loop. Looks to go over mid on for a biggie and fails to watch the ball till the end. Ends up getting a thick outside edge that flies to the right of Shafiq at slip, who takes it smartly. It was a poor shot to say the least, as he could have taken the leaf from the innings that the youngster, Samarawickrama, earlier played. He bowls it at a back of a length around middle, Samarawickrama looks to whip it away to the on side. But the ball gets big on him and he gets it off the top half of his bat. The ball flies to the left of the bowler, who shows good athleticism to rush there and catch that with a dive. Top, top effort by the pacer. The debutant looked in good flow but now the knock has come to an end. Amir gets his first wicket in the series and what a way that is!

  • 30.1 Shah comes round the wicket and serves it around off, Karunaratne goes back and blocks that.

  • Pakistan began well with the new moving pink ball as Amir looked very threatening. Sadly for the hosts, that spell couldn't translate into a wicket for them. There would be a lot of introspection in their camp during the break. They would want to have some magic beverage in order for them to pick up some quick wickets. Join us in a while after the break.
  • Sri Lanka would be very happy with how their first day-night Test has panned out for them as yet! Their openers did a very good job of first being watchful and seeing off the threat of the new ball and then cashing in on the loose balls and accumulating runs. Yasir Shah got rid of Silva to end the opening stand, but the man playing his first game, Samarawickrama, has looked assured so far.

Yasir Shah tosses this one around middle, the southpaw charges down, gets to the pitch of the ball and flicks it through mid-wicket. This is a half-tracker around off, spinning away a bit, Silva goes deep and looks to pull it away. Ends up getting an under edge which is gleefully accepted by the keeper Sarfraz Ahmed. The batsman seemed a tad too early into the shot and that brought about his downfall. The fielding effort off the previous ball also is a contributory to this wicket. End of a good opening stand for Lanka!

  • Team Changes - One change for Pakistan as WAHAB RIAZ comes in for Hasan Ali. Sri Lanka ring in two changes. SADEERA SAMARAWICKRAMA is handed a Test debut and he will replace Lahiru Thirimanne. Lakshan Sandakan makes way for LAHIRU GAMAGE.
  • TOSS - Sri Lanka call it right! They win the toss and opt to bat.
  • Sri Lanka would be delighted at the prospect of winning a Test series away from home after a while. They would miss an experienced Lahiru Thirimanne, who also has been affected by a back injury, increasing the tourists' prospects of playing a debutant for them. Even though Sarfraz Ahmed ruled out their side having any advantage of playing this format earlier, Dinesh Chandimal would know the advantage of acquaintance that sides possess. The visiting skipper also made his intentions of his side going for a win clear. So this game promises to thrill to no ends. Stay tuned with us as an exciting game between bat and ball ensues.
  • Hello and a warm welcome... well, a rosy welcome to our coverage of the Pink-ball Test! The Dubai International Stadium will be playing host for the second and final game in this series and it is also the venue which hosted the previous day-night Test in the sub-continent. Pakistan would look to give their all, in a bid to win and keep their clean sheet at UAE intact. Apart from that, the ICC rankings are also at stake as the hosts are in danger of slipping down the order to 7th if they end up on the wrong side of the result in this match. As far as the team is concerned, Hasan Ali would be making way for another pacer due to his back troubles.
  • Pakistan just couldn't withstand the Sri Lankan force. From the middle order, only Sohail played some innings of substance. He looked at ease when playing the waiting game and so did he when he had to attack. But sadly for the youngster as well as the hosts, he had nobody for company. Their openers gave them a steady start, but they failed to capitalize on that. Azhar Ali played yet another good knock, but his innings failed to reach the heights it promised. Now they will walk out to try and restrict the visitors to as less as possible in a bid to try and stay relevant in the game. Remember, Amir isn't available to bowl, which is a blow for them. Stay with us to know how the following innings pans out!
  • Follow-on is not enforced by Sri Lanka! The tourists would be very happy with their performance, albeit a bit weary due to the number of overs they had to spend out on the field. What would please them to no ends is the fact that Herath had just a supporting role to play. Although he and Perera picked up three wickets apiece, their pacers were instrumental in this. They offered freebies at a premium which helped the side. They would now look to bat well in order to give their bowlers a deserving break for them to come back with great vigor in the next innings. With the position they are in, it's their game to lose from hereon!
  • 90.3 OUT! Bowled 'em! The slower one does it for Sri Lanka. Lakmal rolls his fingers over the ball, lands it on middle. Yasir Shah is deceived by it as he wildly slogs across the line. The ball beats the bat and shatters the leg stump. That's the end of the Pakistan innings! THEY ARE BOWLED OUT FOR 262, TRAILING BY 220 RUNS!

  • Mohammad Abbas is the last man in!
  • Drinks are on the field...
  • 89.2 OUT! The decision is overturned! Excellent captaincy from Chandimal. He shows aggression. Brings in a short leg fielder just before this ball and it has worked wonders for him. Gamage hits the deck hard, Riaz is completely into a tangle as he doesn't know how to deal with it. The ball pops off something to Sadeera Samarawickrama at short leg who takes the catch. Sri Lanka appeal but Kettleborough shakes his head. Chandimal is confident that it has taken some part of the gloves and so takes the review. Snicko shows some spike as the ball passes the gloves. It's enough for the TV umpire to ask the on-field umpire to change his decision. Pakistan still 33 behind to avoid the follow-on.

  • 86.5 Spears it further up, gets it to swing away. Shah goes chasing after it only to get beaten.

  • 86.2 Good length delivery, moving away a bit, this time it's defended well.
  • 86.1 Riaz is opened up completely! Waqar Younis on-air is really happy with Sri Lanka's decision to take the new ball. The lights have taken effect and the ball will surely move around, he reckons. This ball is a perfect example. Lakmal from over the wicket, lands it on a length on off, Riaz tries to defend but the ball swings away late to beat him all ends up.
  • It's Suranga Lakmal who will have a go with the new cherry from the other end. Three slips and a gully in place.
  • 85.6 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery. 240/8
  • 85.5 SIX! In the air... clears the man at long on! Sees the flight, Yasir Shah dances down the track and tries to go big down the ground. Mistimes it high in the air but had enough meat to clear Pradeep at long on. A maximum for the leggie!

  • 84.5 This time it's Yasir Shah who sinks low and sweeps it uppishly towards deep backward square leg. The call is for two and they get it easily. The throw was at the wrong end, the bowler's end. Had it been at the keeper's, things would have been interesting.
  • 84.4 Flighted delivery outside off, turns in a bit, Shah has all the time in the world to deal with it.
  • 84.3 Goes back and blocks it off the front foot gently.

The veteran tosses it up outside off, Amir lunges forward to defend but the ball turns back in to ping him on the front pad right in front of the stumps. Sri Lanka go up in unison and umpire Kettleborough raises his dreaded finger. Amir takes the review. Replays roll in, impact is umpire's call and it would have gone on to hit the middle stump. That's it for Amir. Pakistan need 69 more to avoid the follow-on. 214/7

  • 76.1 OUT! Sarfraz departs! Perera has his hands aloft! He nicely floats it up outside off, it turns in with a bit of extra bounce. The Pakistan skipper gets down and across to play the sweep shot. The ball goes off the gloves and lobs over the short leg fielder. Kusal Mendis is very alert. He quickly back-pedals and takes it easily. Nigel Llong raises his finger against the appeal that has been made. Sarfraz bangs his bat on the pads in frustration as he trudges back, leaving his side in more trouble, still 84 away from avoiding the follow-on!

The players put in a long and loud appeal but the umpire stays put. The Lankans think for a long time about taking the review but are unable to decide it. Finally the umpire calls time! Hawk Eye shows that it was umpire's call on impact and it just clipped the off pole. Smart decision by the umpire there! 188/5

  • DAY 3, SESSION THREE...
  • Sri Lanka's perseverance with disciplined lines for long periods has reaped rewards. Without being overly fidgety, Chandimal has smartly rotated his bowlers. He hasn't looked desperate and that shows. They would look to continue with their good work as the hosts are still 97 runs adrift of saving the follow-on. Join us in a short while for the final session!
  • What a session we've had! For most parts of it, Pakistan looked in command but the wicket just before the break changed that. As much as they would have liked Ali to bat on, now they would have to make do without him. Ahmed and Sohail are equally capable to bat for some time and that part of their games has to come out now. Of course, avoiding the follow-on would be their primary target.

  • 71.3 OUT! Herath cannot be kept away from the wickets for long! Ali is the veteran's bunny yet again as he is dismissed by the bowler for the 10th time in Tests, the most by any bowler! Herath slides this with the arm around off, Ali lunges forward to play for the non-existent turn. Misses the ball and gets struck on the front pad. It looks pretty adjacent, but for some reason, the umpire doesn't think so originally. Herath convinces his skipper to review, who does so after a while. Once the Snicko confirms that there is no inside edge, Hawk Eye displays three reds, meaning the end of Azhar for now. Big wicket as the Pakistani batter has the habit of batting for long periods once he gets set. Half the home side is back in the hut now. They trail by 103!
  • Azhar Ali has got struck on his pads, the players appeal. The umpire stays put. After a lonnng wait, Chandimal decides to review!

  • 69.2 FOUR! And now the confidence is seeping through! Ali uses his feet to dance down the track to this tossed up ball. Bashes it over the bowler's head for a boundary. The umpires checked whether it traveled the distance but it did land in front of the ropes.

  • 68.5 Quicker in line of the stumps, defended off the front foot.
  • 68.4 27th Test fifty for Azhar Ali! He's stood up for the side when it needed the most. • 64.1 Brings up the 50-run stand! These two have battled out really well for Pakistan given that they were in real trouble earlier. Tossed up around leg, Azhar flicks it past short leg and comes back for a couple.
  • 63.6 Now bangs in a short one down the leg side, HS ducks and lets it go. 157/4

  • 60.1 Serves a fuller ball around off, Ali gets a big stride forward and pushes it back to the bowler.
  • Time for drinks! Pakistan have done well to see off a period of play without losing a wicket. Perhaps both batsmen have looked steady without overly attacking has worked for them so far. Sri Lanka though, don't seem to be bothered as they believe a wicket is round the corner. The bowlers haven't looked lackluster which is good. A refreshing, timely break, indeed, for the players!

  • 54.1 Floated around off, driven to the fielder at covers.
  • 53.6 Another ball outside off, not fiddled with. 127/4
  • The on-air commentators are talking about the delivery strides. Waqar Younis says that since he had a slingy action, his body rhythm took him more towards the danger area and so he had to put in some extra effort to drag himself off that area. In comparison, Lakmal's action naturally takes him to his left, which is safely away from the forbidden area on the pitch.
  • 53.5 This is bowled well outside off, Haris lets it be.

Just to be sure, Llong refers it to the third umpire. Replays confirm the same. One run added to the score. Haris ran a bit wide and so this doubt was created. Had he run in straight lines, he could have been even more in.

  • 46.3 This ball is flicked away through mid-wicket for a run.
  • 46.2 Loopy ball around off, defended off the front foot onto the ground.
  • 46.1 Starts off with a tossed up ball around off and middle. Haris stays in the crease and flicks it to mid-wicket.
  • The men who matter make their way out to the middle. Azhar Ali and Haris Sohail will resume with the bat. Rangana Herath will begin the proceedings with the ball. A slip and a short leg in place.
  • DAY 3, SESSION TWO...
  • Pakistan would want and they need a grafting and hard-working innings from the batsmen left. Azhar Ali is still out there and he should look to use his experience to bail his side out from the mess they find themselves in. The hosts' strategy is to attack the bowlers, and when that is backfiring big time, do they have another plan to stay relevant and get to parity? They need 168 more to avoid the follow-on, will they? Join us in a while to know more!
  • Sri Lanka continue to boss around! Only one thing would have been in their mind - wickets - and they have picked four already. On a slightly helpful track, the touring bowlers have continued to hit the right spots and boy, have they reaped rewards! The openers of Pakistan departed in quick succession and post that, it was just a procession.
  • 45.6 Full ball around off, Ali drives it down the ground. Herath gets there from mid on to field it. That's TEA, DAY 3! 115/4
  • 45.5 Fuller outside off, driven to mid off.
  • 45.4 Ali is solid as he punches this off the back foot towards covers.
  • 45.3 Fuller delivery angling down the leg side, Azhar looks to flick but misses.
  • 45.2 This is in line of the stumps, pushed to mid on.
  • 45.1 Pradeep runs in and hurls a length delivery outside off, Ali shoulders arm to that.
  • 44.6 The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot. 115/4
  • 44.5 Flatter and sliding down the leg side, Sohail doesn't bother playing that.
  • 44.4 Flatter around off, met with a solid front foot defense.
  • 44.3 SIX! Off the mark in style! Herath gives some more air to that one, Sohail charges down, gets to the pitch of the ball and belts it over long on for a maximum. The first biggie of the innings!
  • 44.2 Floated around off, defended off the front foot onto the ground.
  • Haris Sohail is the next batsman at the crease.
  • 44.1 OUT! Is it a catching practice session or what? Among Herath's 400-plus wickets, this might be the easiest one he would have got. He bowls a loopy ball around middle and leg, a tad shortish, the ball bounces a bit more. Azam goes back to hit it over mid-wicket but picks out the man stationed there, Samarawickrama, perfectly. So Azam's horrid run continues as the veteran adds one more to his kitty. The hosts slip further.
  • 43.6 Returns to over the wicket and bowls it full outside off. Ali shoulders arms and lets it go. 109/3
  • 43.5 Comes round the wicket and lands it on a length around off, Azam taps it towards point and rushes across for a quick single. The fielder there has a shy at the bowler's end but misses.
  • 43.4 Short outside off, Ali stays back and cuts it in front of point. They get three runs even before the fielder chases it down and retrieves the ball.
  • 43.3 Back over the wicket, Nuwan lands it around off, Ali stays in the crease and defends it.
  • 43.2 Served on the pads, flicked through square leg for a single.
  • 43.1 Pradeep runs in from round the wicket and hurls it on a good length around middle and off. The ball stays a tad low, even as Azam manages to get his bat there in time.
  • 42.6 Tossed up outside off again, Ali charges down and drives it through covers. A spirited dive by the fielder there prevents a run. 104/3
  • 42.5 Loopy ball is defended off the front foot onto the ground.
  • 42.4 Ali defends this one by getting right behind the line of the ball.
  • 42.3 The batsman rocks onto the backfoot and punches the ball.
  • 42.2 FOUR! Inside out over extra covers! Herath tosses it up outside off, Ali charges down to make room and plays it over the off side for a boundary.
  • 42.1 A tad shortish in line of the stumps, Ali goes back and punches it straight.
  • 41.6 Landed outside off, pushed towards mid off. 100/3
  • 41.5 Azam drives this ball to the mid on fielder.
  • 41.4 On a length outside off, Azam takes his stride out and defends it of the front foot.
  • 41.3 Similar sequence of actions to this delivery, like the previous one.
  • 41.2 Landed in line of the stumps, bunted off the front foot.
  • 41.1 Bowls it around off, Azam defends it off his front foot onto the ground.
  • Nuwan Pradeep to roll his arm over.
  • 40.6 This is bowled down the leg side, Ali looks to flick but he misses. The ball lobs up off the keeper's gloves and lands between the keeper and the short leg fielder. Both of them didn't know where the ball was and were searching for the same. The keeper was nearer to it though. Snicko shows some murmurs as the ball passes the bat. 100/3
  • 40.5 Herath bowls it with a side-arm action, the ball goes straight on without spinning. Azam looks to defend but gets an inside edge past short leg for a run.
  • 40.4 Dropped in line of the stumps, Babar blocks it off the front foot.
  • 40.3 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 40.2 A tad flatter outside off, punched towards covers. There's a slight misfield there but doesn't result into a run.
  • 40.1 Rangana tosses it up around off, Ali charges down and pushes it towards mid off. He runs with the shot which makes it easy for him to complete the run, in spite of a throw from the fielder which missed the stumps.
  • 39.6 Bowls it around middle and off, defended off the back foot. 98/3
  • 39.5 FOUR! Smart bowling by Lakmal but the result doesn't show that! The leg gully is still in place and hence the bowler hurls it a tad fuller on the pads. Azam, as a batsman's habit is, clips it off his pads. But he gets very little bat on that which means the ball flies well away from the fielder in place and rushes away to the fence.
  • 39.4 On a length outside off, Ali stays in the crease and taps it to the cover-point fielder.
  • 39.3 With a leg gully and square leg in place, Lakmal hurls it on the pads. Ali knocks it to the latter on the leg side.
  • 39.2 Similar ball in line of the stumps, Ali knocks it though mid-wicket for one run.
  • 39.1 Speared on a length around middle and leg, Azam whips it away through mid-wicket for a run that gets him off the mark.

  • 38.5 Herath drops it in line of the stumps, Azhar blocks it.
  • 38.4 A front foot defense showing the full face of the bat is displayed to that ball by Ali.
  • 38.3 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 38.2 Tossed up ball around off, driven to covers.
  • 38.1 Ali pushes it to the fielder at covers.
  • 37.6 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery. 92/3
  • 37.5 Bouncer in line of the stumps, Babar ducks under it.
  • 37.4 This ball is defended from within the crease.
  • 37.3 Lakmal bowls it fuller around off, Azam keeps it out with a forward defense.
  • Babar Azam comes in to bat next. He is going through a very lean patch of late and what better time to rectify that. Conversely, he is having a good run in white ball cricket.
  • 37.2 OUT! Mendis looked to be in some trouble a while back but no issues in taking this good low catch! Lakmal gets a wicket to his name. He serves it on a length around off, the ball straightens after pitching. Shafiq looks to push at it but the movement means that the ball flies off the edge of the bat to the widish slip, where Mendis gets low to his right first and then grabs it inches off the ground to his left. The umpire asks the leg umpire if it was a clean catch indeed. The latter confirms the same. Although it was a peach of a delivery, Asad could have avoided playing that. He walks back and Pakistan are in real trouble here.
  • 37.1 Asad plays this one from within the crease.
  • The phsyio of Sri Lanka was out there between the overs. Kusal Mendis was in some trouble, inform the on-air commentators.
  • 36.6 Floated in line of the stumps, Azhar gets down and just bunts it. 92/2

  • 35.6 Another delivery that is pitched up around off, Shafiq strides forward to defend. 92/2
  • 35.5 On the pads, Ali gets an inside edge onto his pads and the ball rolls through backward square leg for one run. The leg umpire signaled that there was bat indeed on that, to help his mate at the other end.
  • 35.4 Fuller ball around off and middle, it moves in appreciably. Ali pushes it towards mid on.
  • 35.3 Another fuller ball around off, driven towards covers.
  • These two batsmen feature in the list of Pakistanis scoring most runs against Sri Lanka in Tests. Their team would love these two to assert the fact by playing vital knocks here. That, among other things, would help them maintain their clean slate at UAE.
  • 35.2 Lakmal drops it on a length around off, Azhar keeps it out of the front foot.
  • 35.1 Landed around off, driven off the front foot towards mid off.
  • 34.6 This ball is punched back towards the bowler. 91/2
  • 34.5 Served outside off, pushed to the cover fielder.
  • 34.4 Flatter around the off stick, Shafiq negotiates that from the crease.
  • 34.3 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 34.2 This delivery is paddled away aerially, agonizingly closely past short leg for a run. Mendis was the man there. He did react to the direction of the ball but couldn't do much.
  • 34.1 FOUR! Awesome Azhar! Herath serves a full flighted ball outside off, Ali lunges forward and drives it powerfully through covers. The ball speeds away to the fence. He is too good a player to miss out on such scoring opportunities.
  • 33.6 Landed around off, pushed towards covers. 86/2
  • 33.5 Fuller ball in line of the stumps, defended off the front foot.
  • 33.4 Another ball outside off, shouldered arms to by Shafiq.
  • 33.3 This ball is too wide to make Asad play that. Interestingly, it goes on the bounce to Dickwella.
  • 33.2 Lakmal bowls it on a length on the pads, Azhar Ali tucks it to deep backward square leg for a run.
  • 33.1 An inswinging length ball around off and middle, Shafiq clips it in front of square on the leg side for a single.
  • Drinks are on the field now! Sri Lanka have done well to send the openers back to the hut in the first hour. Ali and Shafiq have largely looked untroubled but the former is looking a touch fidgety. Needs to calm his nerves.
  • 32.6 Similar sequence of actions to this ball as well. A dot ball to end the over. 84/2
  • 32.5 Floated around off and middle, Ali charges down and defends.
  • 32.4 Shafiq drives it towards long off for a run.
  • 32.3 Looped up ball in line of the stumps, defended by getting right behind the line of the ball.
  • 32.2 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 32.1 Lands it fuller around off, driven to covers.
  • Rangana Herath is here. Finally. Good for him that two righties are batting.
  • 31.6 Aah beauty! Lakmal hurls it full outside off, the ball moved away from the batsman just a touch. Ali looks to go for the drive but ends up only hitting the thin air. Thankfully, he didn't nick that! Ali is really looking fidgety out there! 83/2
  • 31.5 Suranga spears it outside off, defended by the batsman showing the full bat face.
  • 31.4 Bowled in line of the stumps, Ali gets his bat there in the nick of time to push it towards mid on.
  • 31.3 In the air... but safe! Lakmal bowls it full outside off, Shafiq drives it uppishly towards mid off. The ball was just wide of the fielder there. And there is a bit of confusion in the running as well! Ali wanted a second even as Asad was ambling across for a run. All's safe in the end, though.
  • 31.2 On a length around off and middle, Asad stands tall and defends from the crease.
  • 31.1 Lakmal runs in and hurls it fuller around off and middle, Shafiq pushes it to mid on.
  • 30.6 FOUR! That's nicely swept! Perera pushes it quicker through the air outside off, Azhar Ali gets down and sweeps it neatly through backward square leg for a boundary to end the over. 82/2
  • 30.5 Azhar leans ahead and pushes it into the cover region.
  • 30.4 Flighted full ball outside off, Ali comes down the track and mistimes his drive towards mid off.
  • 30.3 Goes back and clips this flatter ball towards mid-wicket.
  • 30.2 Loops it up outside off, Ali wrists it towards mid on.
  • 30.1 Floats it up around off, defended solidly off the front foot.
  • Even with two right handers at the crease, Perera continues to bowl. Rangana Herath? Where is he?
  • 29.6 Lakmal drops it on a length around off, the batsman stays in the deep and blocks it with a dead bat. 78/2
  • 29.5 Serves it outside off, Asad covers his sticks and shoulders arms to that. The ball moves in a tad after passing the batsman.

  • 29.3 Suranga hurls a length delivery that moves away just a little bit. Shafiq stays back and pushes it towards point.
  • 29.2 Fuller ball on off, defended off the front foot towards the bowler.
  • 29.1 FOUR! Lakmal's welcomed with a boundary! He begins with a delivery that is short and wide of off, Shafiq has plenty of time to go back and cut it over backward point for a boundary.
  • Suranga Lakmal will have a bowl now.
  • 28.6 Now he blocks it off the front foot. 74/2
  • 28.5 A bit more flight given by Dilruwan, Azhar dances down and blocks.
  • 28.4 Now Ali gets to the pitch of the delivery and bunts it onto the ground.
  • One short mid-wicket is pushed back. He's gone back from a catching position to a run-saving position.
  • 28.3 Floats it around off, Ali blocks it lunging forward.
  • 28.2 Loopy ball outside off, Ali sweeps it through square leg for a brace.
  • 28.1 Perera serves it flatter around off, Ali goes back to defend but edges it towards the slip.
  • Two short mid-wickets in place. There is a short leg and a slip, too.
  • 27.6 Gamage bowls a fuller ball around off, Shafiq plays it from the crease. 72/2
  • 27.5 On a length outside off, Shafiq shoulders arms to let that go.
  • 27.4 Good running. Ali taps it towards mid-wicket and sets off for a quick run. Lahiru runs to field that, but seeing the mid-wicket fielder rush there, he aborts the effort.
  • 27.3 Fuller around off, driven back towards the bowler. Gamage gets some hand onto that and makes a half stop, even as the ball rolls past the stumps at the other end.
  • 27.2 This is landed around off and middle, AA stays in the crease to defend that off the front foot.

  • 26.5 Flatter around off, pushed to mid on.
  • 26.4 Similar delivery outside off, Ali moves across and drives it to the bowler.
  • 26.3 The Pakistan batsmen's mindset is so clear with this shot of Ali. Perera tosses this well outside off, but the ball goes straight on. Ali looks to fetch the sweep but misses the ball completely.

  • 24.5 Knocked through mid on for a run to get off the mark.
  • 24.4 Outside off, Shafiq pushes it towards covers. Ali from the other end, wants a run but is sent back by Asad. The fielder there has a shy at the bowler's end but misses. It could have been interesting had he hit.
  • 24.3 Served around off, defended off the front foot onto the ground.
  • Asad Shafiq strides out to the center. In the previous day-night Test, he played an almost match-winning century. Needs to play a big innings here.
  • 24.2 OUT! Sri Lanka get their second in quick succession! To play back to a spinner, more often than not, is a cardinal sin in cricket. Aslam does just that and it proves fatal. Perera slides it around off, the ball skids off the surface. Sami goes back to flick but misses and is caught in front of the stumps. On appealing, the umpire agrees. The batsman decides to review it. Hawk Eye confirms that it is out indeed. Pakistan lose a wicket as well as a review. Good captaincy by Chandimal to begin with an off spinner with left-handed batsmen at the crease. The hosts are in a spot of bother.
  • Aslam is ruled out LBW, as he is caught adjacent of the stumps. He decides to review the decision. Looks plumb.
  • 24.1 Perera serves it in line of the stumps, Sami goes back and defends.

  • 23.5 Lahiru serves it outside off, Ali shoulders arms to that.
  • 23.4 This ball is driven back towards the bowler.
  • Azhar Ali walks into the middle now. He has scored a triple century with the pink ball when he played against the West Indies.
  • 23.3 OUT! Knocked him over! Gamage does the damage! He serves it on a length outside off, Masood looks to drive that away from the body. The ball nips in a tad and Shan ends up getting an inside edge that crashes onto the stumps. This ball was a touch fuller than the previous one and that made the difference. Masood looked a bit uncharacteristic with that shot of his. End of the 61-run opening stand.
  • 23.2 An appeal but turned down! Gamage lands a length delivery outside off, it nipped back in. Masood moves across and looks to flick. Ends up wearing on the pads. The umpire stays put, as the impact could be well outside off.

  • 19.5 Again lands it outside off, Masood points his bat skywards and lets that go.
  • 19.4 Similar ball well away from the off stick, Masood leaves it alone.
  • There are signs already of Gamage treading on the danger area on the pitch. This is not good for the youngster, though he'd do well to not let it affect his bowling rhythm.
  • 19.3 On a length outside off, Masood covers the stumps and lets that go.
  • 19.2 Pitched further up around off, Masood times the drive perfectly only to be intercepted by the mid off fielder.
  • 19.1 Gamage runs in from over the wicket and spears it in around middle and leg. Masood clips it towards mid-wicket.

  • 18.6 Flatter around off, played from the crease to the off side. 51/0
  • 18.5 Served around off, Sami blocks it with a stride forward.

  • 18.3 Perera lands it outside off, Sami pushes it towards covers and wants a run, but is sent back by his partner.
  • 18.2 Looped up around off, defended off the front foot showing full face of the bat.
  • 18.1 Comes round the wicket and bowls it fuller outside off, Aslam drives it straight to the cover fielder.
  • Everybody has taken their spots on the field. This should be a good time to bat. Sami Aslam and Shan Masood will resume their vigil with the bat. They will have to tackle the foot marks that have developed on the pitch. For the Lankans, it will be Dilruwan Perera, who will begin with the ball first. One slip and a gully to start with. Here we go...
  • Hello folks! It's Sunday and the pink ball Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka has entered Day 3! Enough reasons for you to sit back, relax and enjoy the match. Sami Aslam and Shan Masood survived some nervy moments before close of play yesterday. They would look to pile up more runs in order to give their side a good start. Sri Lanka would be delighted with the assistance that their bowlers extracted last night. They would look to make use of the conditions and push the opposition further on the back foot. Today should be the day that could well end up deciding the course of the game. Stay with us for another intriguing day's play.
  • DAY 3, SESSION ONE...
  • Pakistan would feel relatively happy after surviving the tricky phase of play. The Lankan new ball bowlers didn't leak too many runs and were disciplined, but it couldn't be translated into wickets. Perera almost had one, when he beat Masood's bat to rap him on the pads. But the tourists didn't review that and hence the wickets column stays blank. They would be buoyed by the purchase their bowlers are extracting from the track and that would be encouraging enough for them, come Day 3! That's it from us today. Join us tomorrow, for what could be a moving day in this Test match. Till then, adios!
  • 17.6 Tossed up on middle and off, Masood comes forward and defends it out. STUMPS ON DAY 2! 51/0
  • 17.5 Pushed through quicker, Masood picks it off his pads and flicks it past the short leg fielder.
  • 17.4 Flatter again, quicker in pace, kept out safely.
  • 17.3 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 17.2 Sliding in on middle and leg, turned on the leg side.
  • 17.1 Flatter around off, knocked into the off side for a single.
  • 16.6 Appeal for an lbw! No response from the umpire, that was a close one. Had Sri Lanka not lost a review, they might have considered taking one on this. Slider on middle and leg, raps Masood on the pads as he looks to defend by walking down the track. Maybe it was going down leg, maybe. Hard to tell in real time. But hold up! Replays show that the ball would have gone on to hit the leg stump. Sri Lanka miss out on a wicket. Should have taken the review. 50/0

  • 16.4 Fullish ball with no spin on this occasion, Shan Masood presents a tight defensive shot.
  • 16.3 Patiently waits for the ball to come to him, lets it turn and then defends it down on the off side.

  • 14.3 Drifting down leg, comfortably nudged towards mid-wicket.
  • 14.2 Hint of turn for Perera. Aslam doesn't move at all, waits for the ball to do its thing and then dabs it past second slip for a quick single.
  • 14.1 FOUR! Good start to the over for Pakistan. Too full on the stumps, Aslam gets into the position to play the sweep shot. Brooms it behind square leg and picks up a boundary for doing so.
  • 13.6 Stifled shout, but even Gamage knew that wouldn't be given out. Pulled out of the appeal almost immediately. Came from around the wicket and angled it in from around off, caught Masood on the front pad but the impact was well outside the line. 45/0

  • 13.4 Darts it full outside off, Shan with a drive to the mid off fielder.
  • 13.3 Too wide outside off, no trouble for the batsman to leave it alone.
  • 13.2 In the channel outside off, left alone.
  • 13.1 Appeal for a run out! Safely home though. Comfortably in. It's hit down to mid off and the single is on. There is a direct hit at the non-striker's end and so the umpire wants to just make sure. Replays confirm Aslam is fine.
  • 12.6 Shan Masood has played that off the front foot and into the ground. 44/0
  • 12.5 Stays right behind the line of this one and negotiates with the spin safely.
  • 12.4 Sharp turn for Perera! Looped up and it's spinning away, beats the outside edge of Shan Masood's bat before thudding into the keeper's gloves. He didn't collect it cleanly, but no runs conceded. No harm done.
  • 12.3 Floated around the off stump, kept out well off the front foot.
  • 12.2 This is smart bowling by Dilruwan. Just drags his length back by a fraction, invites Masood to come forward again to drive. The ball spoons off the leading edge and goes safely towards covers.
  • 12.1 FOUR! Nicely flicked away by Shan Masood! Full and drifting in on middle, he gets close to the pitch of the ball and wrists it through the left of Rangana Herath at mid on, who can't stop it with a dive. Good shot, didn't try to hit it too hard. Was all about the timing, that.
  • 11.6 Back of a length delivery which is kept out on the off side with soft hands. 40/0
  • 11.5 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 11.4 Swinging away, from a good length, left alone for the keeper to collect.

  • 11.2 Length delivery close to off, Aslam while attempting to defend gets an inside edge onto his front pad.
  • 11.1 Bowls it outside off, and makes it travel away from Sami Aslam. The batsman is happy to leave it alone.

  • 10.2 Looped up just outside the line of off stump, blocked solidly off the front foot.
  • 10.1 Spinning away from around off, Masood looks to defend. He opens the face a bit and plays it off the outer half towards short third man.
  • Dilruwan Perera to bowl now.

  • 9.5 The batsman shoulders arms to let that one through.
  • 9.4 Length ball outside off, played to point.
  • 9.3 Not out! The on-field decision stays! That's a good call by the umpire. Fuller length delivery on off, it's shaping across as Aslam prods forward to defend. He's caught on the front pad and there's a shout for a leg before. The umpire turns it down so Sri Lanka review as they think Sami is gone. It's taken upstairs and replays show that the ball is clearly missing the off stump. Poor review in hindsight, Sri Lanka lose one of their two.
  • Review time! Sri Lanka have reviewed a leg before decision against Sami Aslam. He looks to be safe. Let's see what happens here...
  • 9.2 Wide outside off stump, the batsman leaves it alone.
  • 9.1 Angles it across, just outside off, the batsman doesn't flirt with it.
  • 8.6 Well outside off, it's dropped on a length, Masood reaches across to play at it but the ball brushes his thigh pads and goes behind. There's a muted shout for a caught behind, but it won't be given. Two leg byes are taken as the keeper fails to collect it cleanly. 30/0
  • 8.5 Lakmal fires this one right up there, Masood drives it to the covers.
  • 8.4 Holding its line on the fifth stump line, left alone.
  • 8.3 Good length delivery outside off, dabbed to point with an open face.
  • 8.2 Confusion in the middle and Pakistan could have lost their first wicket! Shan Masood taps it in front of cover and sets off. His partner is off as well but then Shan decides to abort the run. Lakmal gets to the ball quickly and has a shy at his end. Aslam is struggling to get back and had that hit, he would have been gone. Masood immediately raises his hand to apologize, not sure that'd have counted for much if his partner would have been out.
  • 8.1 Around the wicket, length ball outside off, no shot offered.
  • 7.6 Chooses to leave the ball outside his off stump. 28/0
  • 7.5 Aslam has been quite disciplined till now. Gamage wants him to poke at that, it's in the corridor of uncertainty but the opener has resisted.
  • 7.4 Just ahead of a length in the off stump channel, kept out well on the off side.
  • 7.3 Outward movement again for Gamage, Aslam glides it with a slightly opened face behind point. Two runs are taken.
  • 7.2 Lands it on a length, it hits the deck and seams away. Aslam lets it be.
  • 7.1 Well done. Masood tucks this in the big gap in the mid-wicket area and will get good runs for this. Three to be precise, big boundary out there.
  • 6.6 Brings it in closer, makes the batsman play this time. Aslam meets it with a straight blade. 23/0
  • 6.5 'Round the wicket to Sami Aslam, it's in the zone of apprehension. Left alone without taking any risks.
  • 6.4 Short ball into the body, with a little swivel Shan Masood pulls it to deep backward square leg for a single.
  • 6.3 Shaping away from the batsman on a back of a length, Masood withdraws his bat and watches as the ball goes past him.

  • 6.1 Lands it around leg, easy enough for Aslam to nudge it to deep backward square leg for a run.
  • 5.6 Fuller length delivery, driven off the inner half back down towards mid on. Good start by Gamage, encouraging signs. 21/0
  • 5.5 Accurate again. Keeps it around off, on a length, Masood can only prod forward and defend.
  • 5.4 Drives this on the up. Connects it right off the meat but hits it straight to extra cover.
  • 5.3 Short of a good length quite close to the off stick, Masood stands tall and guards it out from the back foot.
  • 5.2 Tap and run stuff from Aslam. Nicely done. Drops it in front of cover-point and scurries across to complete the run.
  • 5.1 Down the leg side on a length, Sami looks to nudge it away but misses.

  • 4.1 Back of a length delivery on the hips, tucked through backward square leg for three good runs.
  • 3.6 Fuller ball fired outside off, Sami drives it on the up and pierces the gap through the covers. Chandimal gives it the chase and pulls it inside the rope. Two runs taken. 16/0
  • 3.5 Taps this just wide of Chandimal at short cover and both batsmen set off. Bit risky as the Lankan skipper is quick to the ball and scores a direct hit at the bowler's end. Good thing that Masood was just in, otherwise that'd have been bad news for the home side.
  • 3.4 Pradeep swings it away from Shan Masood, the batsman plays it away from his body and ends up getting an edge square on the off side.
  • 3.3 Good shot, the timing's superb. Sami Aslam leans into the shot nicely as he punch-drives it through mid off. Extra cover chases it down but by this time, the batsmen have already run three.
  • 3.2 Closer to the off stump this time but it's still well away, enough for the batsman to leave it alone.
  • 3.1 Length delivery well outside off, moving away further, Aslam has nothing to do with it.
  • 2.6 Served on a length again, on the fourth stump line, Masood leans ahead and pushes it back down towards mid off. It's just wide of the fielder and the batsmen take two. 10/0
  • 2.5 Outside off on a good length again, another one left alone.
  • 2.4 Well read by Masood. Seeing the ball angling across, he covers the line by planting his front foot across and shoulders his arms to it.
  • 2.3 Moving about outside off, this is good stuff from this opening pair. Aslam taps it down in front of point and calls his partner through. He responds quickly and so, the run is completed with ease. Good running.
  • 2.2 Length delivery just outside off, seaming off the deck as Aslam opens the face. Dabs it to point but it's straight to the fielder.
  • 2.1 Too straight in line and this allows Sami Aslam to work it away on the leg side. He gets it through backward square leg and picks up a couple of runs as the man in the deep cuts it off.
  • 1.6 Pradeep goes full again with his length, outside off, Masood plays the drive but finds the short cover fielder. A decent first over by Nuwan. 5/0
  • 1.5 Again it's served around off on a fuller length, Shan draws forward and pushes it back from the inside half of the bat.
  • 1.4 Full and on off, Masood gets forward and defends it to the off side towards mid off.
  • 1.3 Good length ball on off, Aslam taps it down to covers and steals a single.
  • 1.2 Four byes! Another delivery in the channel outside off, Sami leaves it alone and the keeper fumbles to allow four bonus runs.
  • 1.1 Angling away from the batsman, outside off, Aslam allows it through.
  • Nuwan Pradeep will bowl from the other end.
  • 0.6 Straighter in line, Masood stays put and defends it on the leg side. End of a testing first over by Suranga. 0/0
  • 0.5 Oohh...that came back in a lot more. Just outside off, Masood gets forward and then leaves it. It swings in the air and then moves off the deck as well. Not too far away from the stumps.
  • 0.4 Better from Masood this time. It's on a full length outside off, Shan plants his front foot forward to cover the line and then shoulders arms.
  • 0.3 Nearly edged it! Once again it swings the other way, from a length outside off, Shan has no clue about it. His stance indicates that he was expecting an inswinger. Ends up missing it terribly.
  • 0.2 Beaten! Good line by Lakmal. Puts it on a length around off, shaping away a shade, Masood without any footwork feels for it and gets beaten.
  • 0.1 Starts with a length ball around off, Masood gets behind the line and defends it back watchfully.
  • Right then! Pakistan have wrapped the Lankan innings up but mind you, the visitors have a huge lead of 316 with them. Sri Lanka's approach this morning was to counterattack and score quick runs but in the process they kept losing wickets too. Riaz and Yasir tried their best but it was Haris Sohail who in his very first over picked three wickets to bundle out the tourists. Now it's all on their batters to save the game. It won't be that easy against the wily, Herath who will be raring to go. A lot of time is left in the Test. Do Pakistan have it in them to survive? Will they be able to maintain their unbeaten streak in Tests series? Join us in a bit for their reply...
  • 25.6 OUT! The decision stands! SRI LANKA ARE BOWLED OUT UNDER 100! Haris Sohail, take a bow! Pushes it around middle and leg, it bites off the surface. Pradeep goes back to defend but misses it completely. Is hit on the pads and the umpire rules it out. Nuwan takes the DRS! Replays roll in, Snicko shows no bat. Hawk Eye shows three reds! That's it for Sri Lanka then!

Floats it up on the stumps, Mendis kneels to play the slog sweep but gets a big top edge. The ball balloons high up in the air. Sarfraz calls for it and settles under it comfortably.
  • 25.3 Quicker through the air around middle and off, defended from within the crease.
  • 25.2 Comes forward and pushes it towards square of the wicket for a single. Pradeep is off the mark.
  • Nuwan Pradeep is the new man in!
  • Drinks are on the field!
  • 25.1 OUT! The bowling change has done the trick for Ahmed! Sohail from over the wicket, floats it up outside off. Rangana Herath goes down to sweep but gets a top edge instead. The ball lobs up towards short fine leg where Babar Azam takes a simple catch. So, Haris strikes on the very first ball. The 35-run stand is broken! Sri Lanka lead by 315 runs!
  • Wahab Riaz is seen walking off the field. Haris Sohail is brought into the attack now.
  • 24.6 Goes around the wicket, hits the deck hard. Not much bounce as Mendis safely defends it down. 95/7
  • 24.5 Tries to keep it full on the stumps, turns out to be a full toss. Easily driven through covers by Kusal for a brace.
  • 24.4 This was coming! Spears in a yorker at the base of middle stump. Herath tries digging it out. Gets an inside edge on the pads and rolls past the short leg fielder for a single.
  • 24.3 Touch short on off, RH swivels a bit to pull but fails to get going with the shot.
  • 24.2 Back of a length delivery on middle, turned towards the on side.
  • 24.1 FOUR! Streaky! Sarfraz shakes his head! Marginally ahead of a length on off, Herath swings his bat at it. A thick outside edge flies over the fielder at gully for a boundary. More frustration for the hosts!
  • 23.6 FOUR! Another boundary! Shah for the last ball of the over, switches the angle as he comes from over the wicket. Bowls it short and flat on the stumps, Mendis camps back and smacks it over deep mid-wicket. The ball seems to have landed flush on the rope. The umpire checks it but replays show it bounced just inside the rope. 88/7
  • 23.5 FOUR! That's cracked away! Shortish ball around leg, turning away, Mendis backs away and packs a punch through extra cover for a boundary.
  • 23.4 Down the leg side, Mendis sweeps it towards deep backward square leg. Abbas in the deep puts in a dive to save two for his side. Lead touches 300 now!
  • 23.3 Goes down on one knee to sweep it but it hits the man at short leg.
  • 23.2 Floats it up around leg, blocked off the front foot towards short leg.
  • 23.1 From around the wicket comes Yasir. Bowls it outside leg, it turns towards off, defended towards the off side.
  • 22.6 Back of a length delivery on off, defended towards the cover region. 78/7
  • 22.5 Goes over the wicker and bowls it on a back of a length outside off, Herath tries fiddling with it. Luckily, for him it didn't take the outside edge of his bat.
  • 22.4 Once again digs in a short ball, this time Herath sits under the bumper.
  • 22.3 Bangs in a short ball on middle and leg, Herath tries to duck under it but is a tad late in doing so. The ball goes off his back and lobs towards the keeper. That would have hurt the veteran but he is showing no pain.
  • 22.3 No ball! And again Riaz oversteps! Keeps it on a length outside off, Kusal cuts it a bit square of the wicket on the off side for one. Wahab will have to reload it.
  • 22.2 Pitches it further up around off, RH prods forward and blocks it towards the cover region for a quick single.
  • 22.1 Good length delivery, slanting away with the angle. Herath tries cutting at it but gets beaten.
  • 21.6 Loopy leg break around off, pushed off the front foot towards cover. 75/7

  • 21.4 Flighted delivery outside off, pushed towards the cover region.
  • 21.3 Flat and short on off, Mendis cuts it towards the fielder at point.
  • 21.2 Good shot! He is playing his shots out there! Sinks down and brings out to reverse sweep. There is a man out there at backward point which means he will have to settle for a single.
  • 21.1 Loopy ball outside off, Rangana gets down to play the sweep shot but the ball turns in and strikes him on the pads.
  • 20.6 Short of a length delivery outside off, tucked towards the man at mid-wicket. 70/7
  • 20.5 Gets behind the line and stabs it out towards the off side.
  • 20.4 Outside off, on a length, left alone with ease.
  • 20.3 In the air... safe! Riaz nicely changes the pace and bowls a fuller ball on the stumps. Kusal is completely outfoxed by it as he chips it uppishly towards mid on. Abbas, stationed there, comes forward but the ball falls well short of him.
  • 20.2 Angles it in on middle, Mendis looks to tuck it away but misses and is hit on the thigh pad.
  • 20.1 Shortish ball on middle, pulled through mid-wicket for a single.
  • 19.6 The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball. 69/7
  • 19.5 Flighted delivery around off, swept towards deep mid-wicket for a single.
  • 19.4 FOUR! This time he opts for the reverse sweep! It has paid off again! Gets into the position early and reverse sweeps it through backward point. Abbas in the deep fails to stop that from crossing the rope.
  • 19.3 FOUR! Good shot! Tossed up delivery outside off, Herath gets down on one knee, takes it on the full and sweeps it through backward square leg to open his account with a boundary.
  • Rangana Herath is the new man in!
  • 19.2 OUT! LBW! Yasir Shah strikes this time! Perera is gone for a golden duck! The leggie drops it on middle and leg, it skids through the surface to ping Perera on the pads. Looked close to the naked eye and the umpire raises his finger to the appeal that has been made. Dilruwan walks towards his partner, thinks about the review but then decides against it. Good call from him as the Hawk Eye shows three reds!
  • 19.1 On middle and leg, flicked through mid-wicket for a single.
  • Dilruwan Perera walks out to bat next!
  • 18.6 OUT! Edged and that's a stunner from Sarfraz! What a marvelous take that is. Riaz slants it away on a length outside off, the slip was taken out on the previous ball and so maybe, Dickwella tried to drive it away from the body. An outside edge is induced and Sarfraz Ahmed behind the stumps dives full length to his left to take a one-handed catch. Simply outstanding! Sri Lanka lead by 279 runs! 59/6
  • Slip moves out and third man in place now...
  • 18.5 FOUR! Easily done! On a length and angling away a touch, Dickwella stays put, uses the pace on the ball and glides it down to third man for another boundary. He is already hurting Pakistan here! 4th boundary for the Lankan keeper already.
  • 18.4 Back of a length delivery outside off, Niroshan punches it towards the cover region.
  • 18.3 FOUR! Cracked that! Slants it away on a length outside off, Dickwella sees the width and goes hard at it. Gets it through cover-point and picks up a boundary.

  • 18.1 Fuller ball on middle and leg, nudged through square leg for a single.
  • 17.6 Drops it short and outside off, punched off the back foot through covers for a couple of runs. 50/5
  • 17.5 NOT OUT! Still I would say it wasn't a bad review by them! Yasir floats it up on the stumps, Dickwella gets down to play the reverse sweep but the ball lobs off something towards Masood at short leg. They all appeal but umpire Kettleborough shakes his head. Sarfraz has a word with his mates and then takes the review. Snicko shows some spikes as the ball passes the gloves but from the side angle the bat was hitting the turf at the same time. So the spike could be of that as well. TV umpire, S Ravi takes a lot of time and because he doesn't have enough evidence, he stays with the on-field call. Pakistan lose a review. Not sure why? The third umpire didn't have any conclusive evidence which in a way meant that the decision made by umpire Kettleborough was a marginal one. In such cases, to take a review away from the team doesn't look justified. After all, it's not Pakistan's fault. Also, want to add that they must be using Hot Spot in all Tests.
  • A shout for a catch at short leg. The umpire stays put. Pakistan think about it for a while and then opt to review it. Is it off the gloves?
  • 17.4 Loopy ball outside off, Niroshan gets down to sweep but the ball goes off something towards leg gully. The ball falls short of the man there. Replays show there was no bat or glove involved, it lobbed off the the forearm.
  • 17.3 Goes back and tucks it it past short leg for a single.
  • 17.2 Loops it up around middle and off, the batsman comes forward and blocks.
  • 17.1 Flatter on the stumps, Mendis shows the full face of the bat.
  • 16.6 Goes too straight on this occasion, Dickwella flicks it uppishly over mid-wicket for a couple. 47/5
  • Riaz was seen stepping on the danger area. The umpire gives him a friendly warning. Needs to be careful here!
  • 16.5 Beaten! Drops it on a length and it holds its line, Dickwella has a tentative poke inside the line. The ball whizzes past the outside edge.
  • 16.4 On a good length and outside off, defended by covering the line.
  • 16.3 Fires in a yorker on the stumps, Dickwella does well to jam it out back to Wahab.
  • 16.3 No ball! Riaz and no balls can't stay away for long! He keeps it on a length outside off, Dickwella punches it off the back foot towards point. The umpire calls it a no ball as Riaz oversteps.
  • 16.2 Changes the pace this time! Bowls a cutter, fuller on off, Dickwella defends it down safely.
  • 16.1 Spears in a fuller ball on the stumps, a gentle push towards the fielder at mid off.
  • 15.6 Kusal leans forward and blocks it out watchfully. 44/5
  • 15.5 Good ball! Shah floats it up around off, Mendis lunges forward to defend but the ball turns away and nearly takes the outside edge of Mendis' bat.
  • 15.4 A bit fuller around middle, just a shimmy from Niroshan as he clips it through mid-wicket for a single.
  • 15.3 An appeal from Yasir for an LBW! But the bounce would have saved him! Tossed up delivery outside off, turning in massively. Dickwella goes back and offers no stroke to wear it on the pads. An appeal is made but the umpire shakes his head.
  • 15.2 Tosses it up outside off, it turns down leg as Dickwella moves inside the line to let his counterpart collect it.
  • 15.1 A loopy full toss dipping in around off, driven through covers for a quick single.
  • Yasir Shah to bowl from the other end!
  • 14.6 FOUR! In the air... safely through the gap! Hurls it on a length outside off, Dickwella looks to drive. He does so uppishly but it safely goes through backward point for another boundary. Ideal start for Sri Lanka, this! 42/5
  • 14.5 Pitches it up around off this time, Niroshan eases it towards the fielder at mid off.
  • 14.4 FOUR! A false start from Riaz! Not what his captain would have liked! He comes from over the wicket and slips out a full toss down leg. All too easy for Dickwella who just helps it on its way down to the fine leg fence for a boundary.
  • It's time to get underway then. The cracks have opened up and the spinners will be licking their lips to have a go. Niroshan Dickwella joins Kusal Mendis out in the middle. The former might counterattack. Let's see what will be his approach. Here comes Wahab Riaz steaming in to complete his pending over. A slip in place for him...
  • Sri Lanka, on the other hand, are still ahead as they have already stretched the lead past the 250-run mark. Another 50 odd runs will surely set the tone for their bowlers. It's the hosts who are under the pump at the moment. A lot is at stake for them as they have never lost a series in their adopted home since 2010. Will we see them keeping that record intact or will Sri Lanka create history? It promises to be an enticing day of Test cricket...
  • Hello and a warm welcome for what could be the final day of this Test. Pakistan after getting bundled out for 262 later in the evening on day 3, came out all guns blazing and have scalped 5 Lankan wickets in a jiffy to still stay relevant. Wahab Riaz has not let his side miss Amir and it would be interesting to see if he can bowl with the same venom today. With the wicket expected to deteriorate further, batting by no means would be an easy task.
  • ... DAY 4, SESSION 1 ...
  • The tourists wouldn't be too worried about the last few minutes of play, as they would believe they have the attack which would make life difficult for the opposition as well. This is where they would be thankful for their bowlers' efforts to help them get a 200-plus lead. All that they would hope for, is for their remaining batsmen to put up some runs, thereby setting a target they would be comfortable defending with. Even now, they have their noses ahead. It surely promises to be an exciting and a thrilling contest, come the penultimate day. Do join us tomorrow at 1400 local time (1000 GMT). Till then, ciao!
  • Wahab Riaz has been the man for Pakistan. With a spell of 3.3-0-10-3, he has broken the back of the Lankan batting. The main moment was Riaz knocking Karunaratne's poles off to end his stay. The southpaw is known to be a thorn in the oppositions' flesh when it comes to batting in the second innings or battling tough conditions out. However, he followed it with the wickets of Samarawickrama and Chandimal to pin Sri Lanka against the wall. Earlier, Abbas started it all with a peach that got rid of the opener Silva. But the hosts' most potent weapon Yasir Shah also joined the party with a dismissal.
  • What has just happened here? 10 wickets in the session - 5 in the visitors' second essay! All talks of Sri Lanka running away with the game could be swept under the carpet as of now, as Pakistan have come out breathing fire! Talk all that about they being a spinner short or their key pacer being absent, the fit-n-fine bowlers have the opposition on the mat right now. What an inspired turnaround this has been.
  • 14.3 OUT! The decision stands as it is! Dinesh Chandimal departs for a duck! He walks back and takes the review along with himself. Riaz drops it on a length around off, Chandimal gets across to tuck it away but the ball skids off the surface and hits him near the knee roll. Pakistan appeal long and hard and umpire Nigel Llong raises his finger. The Lankan skipper takes the review. Replays roll in - Ultra Edge shows no spike and Hawk Eye shows three reds! The hosts have skittled the top five Lankan batsmen here. Mickey Arthur in the dressing room is all smiles! Impressive comeback from Pakistan although Sri Lanka lead by 254 runs! STUMPS, DAY 3!
  • Another review by Sri Lanka. This time it's their skipper, Chandimal who opts for one. Is it going down leg? Big moment in the game this could be!
  • 14.2 Length ball, angling in, tucked behind square on the leg side by hopping a bit in the crease. One run taken.
