  • From 106/1, Sri Lanka slipped to 119/9 in the blink of an eye. Fahim Ashraf rose to the occasion and became the first Pakistan bowler to claim a hat-trick in this format while Hasan Ali came back really well at the death to cover it up for the hammering that he got initially. Sri Lanka will be really kicking themselves at the moment. The platform was set for their batsmen but as we have seen on this tour, they crumbled once again. The fragility in their batting once again was clearly visible and now they find themselves on the cusp of losing yet another series. They don't have much to defend but we saw them bowling well yesterday. Can they make a match out of it or will it be another stroll in the park for the hosts? Join us in a bit to find out...
  • What a turnaround from Pakistan! Simply mind boggling, they have scalped 8 wickets for just 18 runs in the last 23 balls to restrict Sri Lanka to a really below par total. After asking Sri Lanka to bat, they didn't get the best of the starts. Leaked runs upfront but through some brilliant fielding, which they aren't known for, they pulled themselves back into this contest. Gunathilaka and Samarawickrama were going great guns but the 17th over bowled by Shadab Khan which accounted for two wickets (one was a run out) completely changed the complex of the game.
  • 19.6 Slower delivery outside off, Sanjaya gives it a full swing of the bat but is beaten by the lack of pace. That's all, SRI LANKA FINISH ON 124/9!
  • 19.5 FOUR! That will do for the Lankans! Fuller again from Ali, Sanjaya makes a bit of room and drills it through mid off for a boundary.
  • 19.4 Fuller delivery on middle, jammed out towards mid-wicket for a single.
  • Vikum Sanjaya is the last man in!
  • 19.3 OUT! Nawaz the substitute is into the act again! Fuller ball on the stumps, Pathirana clears the front leg to go downtown but ends up mistiming it. Nawaz in the deep takes a simple catch. Can Pakistan bowl out Sri Lanka?
  • 19.2 Driven towards the mid-on region. They pick up a single.
  • 19.1 On middle and leg, driven down to long on for a single.
  • 18.6 OUT! Gone! Fahim Ashraf becomes the FIRST PAKISTAN BOWLER TO PICK UP A HAT-TRICK IN T20IS! What a turnaround it has been from the hosts. His mates are running towards him, he has his hands aloft and later does a Sajdah! Angles it in on middle, Shanaka has a swing across the line but the ball skids off the deck and strikes him on the pads. A loud appeal and the umpire raises his finger. Replays show that it would have clipped the top of the stumps, so the umpire's call stays! 6 runs and a hat-trick in the over, Sri Lanka have surrendered yet again. 117/8
  • Ashan Priyanjan is the next man in!
  • Sachith Pathirana is the new man in to face the hat-trick ball!
  • 18.5 OUT! Two-in-two for Ashraf! He slants it away on a length outside off, Mahela makes room to go after it but ends up slicing it over cover-point. Babar Azam in the deep comes charging across to his right and pulls off a brilliant catch. The momentum was taking him over the boundary rope but he did well to keep his body inside. Can Ashraf pick up a hat-trick?
  • Mahela Udawatte is the new man in!
  • 18.4 OUT! What a catch! Short of a length delivery on middle, Udana tries to help it on its way over fine leg and connects well too. But Hasan Ali at short fine leg times his leap to perfection to catch it out of thin air. Simply superb!
  • 18.3 FOUR! Much-needed one! Fuller in length outside off, Udana makes room and drills it through extra cover for a boundary.
  • 18.2 Fuller delivery outside off, driven back to the bowler.
  • 18.1 Back of a length delivery outside off, Udana slices it towards backward point. Shehzad there tries to charge but the ball bounces and turns away to go through him. They take a couple.
  • Ashraf is back on!
  • 17.6 Angles it in from around middle, Shanaka defends it back to the bowler. 111/5
  • Udana is the new man in!
  • 17.5 OUT! In the air... gone! Slower delivery on the stumps, Perera swings again. However, he gets it off the toe end of the bat towards long on. The substitute fielder, Nawaz from long on comes across to his left, keeps his eyes on the ball and takes a well-judged catch over his head. This is incredible comeback from Pakistan!
  • 17.4 Back of a length delivery outside off, tapped towards point for a single.
  • 17.3 Fuller ball, angling away, Perera has a wild swing across the line but gets a top edge down to third man for a single.
  • Dasun Shanaka is the next man in!
  • 17.2 OUT! Third run out in the innings! Well done, Pakistan! Fuller length delivery on off, driven towards substitute Nawaz at mid off by Prasanna. He sets off but instead of running straight he moves to his left to avoid the throw. The fielder scores a direct hit at the bowler's end and they all appeal. It's taken upstairs and replays find Prasanna short. Superb fielding and Sarfraz is a happy man. Sri Lankan batsmen continue to commit a basic error, run straight, taking the longer route when attempting a quick single is always fatal.
  • It's another direct hit! This time it's Prasanna who is the man in question. What's with Sri Lanka tonight? Why aren't they running straight? Anyway, let's wait and find out.
  • 17.1 Shortish length delivery on middle, dragged off the inner half to deep mid-wicket for a single.
  • Hasan Ali is back on. He went for 13 in his last over, can he redeem himself?
  • 16.6 Perera clips it towards short fine leg and takes the single to retain strike. Just two runs and two wickets off the over! 108/3
  • Here comes the skipper, Thisara Perera in next to bat. The stage is set for him to blast, can he take his side to a competitive total?
  • 16.5 OUT! Another set batsman departs! Gunathilaka tries to be cheeky there, he goes for the reverse sweep on the full toss but ends up spooning it straight to Imad Wasim at short third man who accepts it gleefully. Sri Lanka are losing the plot now. This was the over Pakistan were waiting for and Shadab Khan has delivered at the right time. Gunathilaka departs after playing a good knock!
  • 16.4 Quicker delivery outside off, drilled through covers for a single.
  • 16.3 The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball.
  • Prasanna is the next man in!
  • 16.2 OUT! Another run out! Fuller ball around off, Samarawickrama comes down the track and drives it hard towards cover. He looks for the single but Danushka isn't interested and sends him back. Meanwhile, Hafeez stationed there returns an accurate throw to the keeper who does the rest. A wicket at the right time for the hosts. The 63-run stand comes to an end. Can Pakistan capitalize on this?
  • 16.1 Seam-up delivery outside off, Samarawickrama looks to cut but is beaten all ends up.
  • Shadab Khan to bowl out now.
  • 15.6 Flattish ball outside off, SS comes down the track and belts it down to long on for a single. 106/1

  • 15.2 Sadeera gets to the pitch of the ball and connects but finds the man at cover.
  • 15.1 Maiden T20I fifty for Danushka Gunathilaka! It has been a sublime knock from the southpaw. Flatter one on middle, punched through covers for a single.
  • 14.6 This one skids off the deck and goes under the bat of Samarawickrama who tries to cut. Excellent over from the leggie, just three of it. 98/1
  • 14.5 Tossed up ball outside off, Sadeera looks to cut but gets an outside edge which lands short of the man at short third man.
  • 14.4 Flatter on middle and off, tapped towards Wasim at point who dives full length to his left to stop it. Only a single.
  • 14.3 Dances down the track and whips it towards mid-wicket for a single.
  • 14.2 Comes down the track and almost yorks himself. Jammed out back to the bowler.
  • 14.1 Superb effort from Ahmed Shehzad! The wrong 'un around middle, DG flicks it towards square leg and calls for two. Shehzad from fine leg comes sprinting in and fires a good throw to the keeper. There was certainly two there but this effort from the Pakistan opener denies the batsmen that.
  • Shadab Khan is back into the attack!
  • 13.6 50-run stand comes up between the two! Skips down the track and flicks it to deep mid-wicket for another couple. 95/1
  • 13.5 That was risky! Quicker delivery around middle, Sadeera gets across and helps it down to fine leg for a brace.
  • 13.5 Samarawickrama moves leg side, Hafeez follows him and fires it down leg. Sadeera then leaves it alone and Sarfraz collects it. The umpire calls it a wide. The Pakistan keeper isn't happy with the call.
  • 13.4 Eases it down to long off for a easy single.
  • 13.3 Tosses it up outside off, Sadeera comes down the track and lofts it over extra cover for a single.

  • 13.1 Darts it on the pads, flicked through the leg side for a single.
  • 12.6 In the air... wide of mid off! Length delivery on off, DG lofts it down the ground. The mid off fielder dives to his left to take it but the ball beats him easily. They take two more. 13 off the over, a big one for Sri Lanka. 86/1
  • 12.5 FOUR! More runs! 11 off the over already! Sri Lanka stepping on the gas now! They need more of these and mind you, they have targeted opposition's most reliable bowler! Shortish again on the body, Gunathilaka swivels a bit inside the crease and nails the pull shot over mid-wicket to pick up another boundary.
  • 12.4 Short on the body, controlled pull down to fine leg for a single.
  • 12.3 FOUR! What a shot that is! Back of a length delivery outside off, Samarawickrama makes room and slaps it over extra cover for a boundary.
  • 12.2 Angling in on the pads, clipped through square leg for a single.
  • 12.1 Fuller ball on off, drilled through covers for a single.
  • Hasan Ali is reintroduced into the attack!
  • 11.6 Around middle and leg, clipped behind square on the leg side for a couple. 73/1
  • 11.5 Drops it short on middle, punched off the back foot towards cover.
  • 11.4 Tossed up outside off, SS reverse sweeps it through backward point for a single.
  • 11.3 On middle and leg, flicked towards the leg side.
  • 11.2 The batsman has been struck on the pads as he looked to play that off the front foot.
  • 11.1 Chance of a run out again! Gunathilaka skips down the track and clips it through mid-wicket. Wants the second as well. Seeing the fielder charging in from deep mid-wicket, his partner says no. The throw comes in which is a bit wide as Gunathilaka dives to get back in. Had the throw been on target, things could have been interesting.
  • Mohammad Hafeez is brought into the attack. He was superb yesterday, can he deliver it again?
  • 10.6 Gets down and sweeps it towards backward square leg for a single. Imad finishes his spell with figures of 4-0-23-0! 69/1
  • 10.5 Flattish around middle, defended off the front foot.
  • 10.4 Darts it on the pads, the batsman misses it completely.
  • 10.3 Chance of a stumping! Bowls it quicker through the air outside off, Gunathilaka comes down the track in search of a single but he forgets to play the shot, I mean put bat to ball. It goes past the outside edge and Sarfraz Ahmed behind the stumps fumbles. And there goes the stumping chance too. Could be a big moment in the game this.
  • 10.3 Fires one down the leg side, Sadeera misses his sweep and so does the keeper. Two wides signaled by the umpire.
  • 10.2 Comes from over the wicket and pushes it quicker through the air, flicked over mid-wicket for a single.
  • 10.1 FOUR! Quicker delivery around the pads, swept past the man at short fine leg for a boundary to start the over.
  • Imad Wasim to bowl out now.
  • 9.6 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery. 61/1
  • 9.5 In the air... safe! Bowls a googly, but the length is short. Danushka looks to pull but gets a big top edge. Shouts of Catch it but the ball lands well short of the man coming in from deep backward square leg. A single taken.
  • 9.4 NOT OUT! This time the batsman is safe! But what's with Pakistan's fielding tonight? Absolutely top class! Flatter one around middle, Sadeera tucks it towards Ashraf at short fine leg and calls for the single. Gunathilaka is running in at the danger end as Fahim scores a direct hit at the striker's end. Looked safe though but the umpire still refers it upstairs. Replays confirm that the southpaw is safely in. He ran straight unlike Munaweera, says the commentator on air, which is the right thing.
  • Direct hit by Fahim Ashraf! There is an appeal for a run out at the striker's end. The Pakistani players are not looking too excited though. Let's see...
  • 9.3 Loopy delivery, landed full outside off, pushed towards point for a single.

  • 6.5 Length delivery outside off, dabbed down to third man for a single.
  • Sadeera Samarawickrama is the next man in!
  • 6.4 OUT! Run Out! Superb piece of fielding from Imad Wasim! Pakistan have gotten a breakthrough here. Ahead of a length around off, Munaweera drives it towards mid off and takes off for a quick single. Wasim collects it and scores a direct hit at the bowler's end. Munaweera instead of running straight, takes a long way and that brings his downfall. It's referred upstairs and replays shows that Dilshan is short of his ground.
  • It's a direct hit from Imad Wasim at the bowler's end. Pakistan feel they have got their man and Hafeez lifts his finger already, well he is the Professor! He shouldn't be wrong. The umpire refers it upstairs...

  • 6.2 Once again angles it away, this time the length isn't full. Danushka taps it towards point for a single.

  • Fahim Ashraf is brought into the attack now.
  • 5.6 Beaten! On a length and this one holds its line. Munaweera makes room to slash but fails to get any wood on it. 42/0
  • Some issue with the ball. Seems like the seam has come off and the umpire cuts it off and hands it back to Hasan Ali...
  • 5.5 Stays behind the line and defends this length delivery off the back foot.
  • 5.4 On a good length and around middle and leg, tucked towards square leg for a single.
  • 5.3 SIX! How good a shot that is! Beautiful! Ali sprays it on the pads, Gunathilaka just picks it off his pads and dumps it over the deep square leg fence for a maximum. First one of the night!

  • 5.1 Comes from over the wicket does Ali and hurls a length delivery outside off, Munaweera looks to cut but misses.

  • 4.6 Tossed up ball, sprayed a bit wide outside off, Gunathilaka slices it over point and collects two. 34/0
  • 4.5 Good stop in the deep, Babar! Imad drags his length short, Munaweera quickly camps back and pulls it over mid-wicket. Azam from long on hares to his right and stops it just inside the rope with his boot. They take three runs!
  • 4.4 Makes room, Wasim follows him, it's worked down to mid on for a single.
  • 4.3 Gets down and across to scoop but gets it off the toe end of the bat towards the man at 45 on the leg side.
  • 4.2 Slides it into the pads, pulled through backward square leg for just a single.
  • 4.1 Flatter delivery outside off, punched off the back foot towards Azam at mid off for a quick single.
  • 3.6 FOUR! Takes the risk and it pays off! 10 off the over, a good one for the Lankans! Munaweera anticipates that Usman will angle it away on a length outside off. He gets it as he backs away quickly and hits it aerially over cover-point to end the over with a boundary. This is a good start for the visitors. 26/0
  • 3.5 Full pacy delivery outside off, driven on the up but straight to mid off.
  • 3.4 Keeps it on a fuller length and it curls back in a touch, worked in front of square on the leg side for one.
  • 3.3 Drops it on a back of a length outside off, Munaweera backs away and slaps it square of the wicket on the off side for a single.
  • 3.2 Good length delivery, angling away, Dilshan Munaweera stands tall and defends it down on the ground.
  • 3.1 FOUR! Down the ground! Delightful stroke! Usman keeps it full on middle, Munaweera stands his ground and just presents a full face of the bat. Gets it off the meat and beats the man at mid off comfortably to pick up a boundary.

  • 2.1 An arm ball around middle, blocked from within the crease.
  • 1.6 Fuller in length and slanting in again, DG looks to slog it across the line but misses and is hit on the pads. A loud appeal from Khan but the umpire shakes his head. Replays show it would have missed the stumps. 9/0
  • 1.5 FOUR! Gives the charge this time! Picks the length early does Danushka and drives it uppishly through widish mid off for a boundary. That should get him going.
  • 1.4 Beaten! Angles it in on middle and off, Gunathilaka targets the square leg area as he swivels to pull but is beaten by the inward movement. The ball sneaks under his bat towards Sarfraz.
  • 1.3 A bit fuller on off, squeezed off the front foot towards Shadab Khan at point.
  • 1.2 FOUR! Streaky! Usman Khan has his hands on his head! He angles it in from a length outside off, it keeps coming in as Gunathilaka has a tame push at it without any footwork. Gets a thick inside edge which nearly kisses the leg stump and races down to the fine leg fence for a boundary.
  • 1.1 Comes steaming in from over the wicket and slants it in from around off, pushed nicely off the front foot towards mid off.
  • Usman Khan to bowl from the other end! He has a slip in place. Mr. Wickets is what Danny Marrison calls him on air...
  • 0.6 Angles it in from around middle, Dilshan comes down the track to flick but wears it on the pads. Excellent first over from Wasim! 1/0
  • 0.5 Drops it a bit short, flatter through the air again, stabbed off the back foot towards cover.

  • 0.2 Once again pushes it quicker through the air, defended nicely off the front foot.
  • 0.1 Starts from around the wicket and bowls it flatter around middle, Gunathilaka prods forward in defense.
  • It's time to get going. The players and umpires have made their way out to the middle. The Lankan openers, Danushka Gunathilaka and Dilshan Munaweera stride out. Will they be able to give their team a firing start? Let's wait and find out. Pakistan to start the proceedings with spin and it shall be Imad Wasim to roll his arm over. It's his 100th T20 game for him. Here we go...
  • TOSS - Pakistan win the toss and elect to bowl! Both the teams are unchanged from the first T20I.
  • Problems for Sri Lanka continue to swell. After flying high in the white attire, they have been brought down to earth in the limited overs game and have been found wanting since then. The batting has let them down big time and with the series on the line, Thisara Perera and Co. need to resolve their issues quickly to stay alive. Will we see them putting up a fight and take the series into the decider? Stay tuned as the toss is coming up in a short while...
  • Welcome folks for the second T20I between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi. The Men in Green extend their dominance over their Asian neighbors with the white ball and now find themselves on the verge of sealing the deal tonight. Everything is panning out perfectly for them but with the format being the shorter one, the only thing they would need to be wary of is complacency which might cost them the game. Other than that, they look a well-oiled machine.
  • That's all we have from this match. We look forward to your company for the final T20I on Sunday in Lahore. Do join us at 1300 GMT (1800 local) for all the action. Until then, it's goodbye from all of us here. Cheers!
  • Sarfraz Ahmed smiles and thanks the Almighty first up. Praises his bowlers for making a brilliant comeback and is all gaga over their fielding. Lauds Shadab Khan for hitting that crucial six and claims that it wasn't easy to hit that shot. Feels that the team management is backing the young players and it's delivering the goods. Admits that they need to improve their batting for consistent results in future. He is excited for the match in Lahore and thanks the crowd in Abu Dhabi before signing off.
  • Thisara Perera manages a smile on his face. Says that they can take a lot of positive from this match and praises his boys for their effort. He feels it's not easy to score big runs on this pitch and also lauds his bowlers for pushing Pakistan to the very limit. Adds that they are getting there and victory is not very far. On their batting woes, he replies that the batsmen haven't been able to execute the plans and that's costing them.
  • Man of the Match, Shadab Khan thanks the Almighty first. Says he had the confidence and self belief to take his team over the line. Further says he tried to give it his all initially but the shots weren't coming but then in the end he took the name of the Almighty and hit one over the rope. Opines T20 is such a format where you need to contain the batsmen and come up with variations and only then you can pick up wickets.
  • You got to feel bad for Sri Lanka tonight. No, they didn't deserve to win after yet another dismal batting show but their bowlers bowled with a lot of heart and deserved better. Led by skipper Thisara Perera, who claimed a 3-fer, the Lankan bowlers were clever in their approach and bowled with a lot of purpose. Isuru Udana and Sachith Pathirana were at their economical best which created immense pressure on Pakistan but eventually they didn't have enough on the board which cost them. Also, had Gunathilaka taken the catch on the third ball of the 20th over, it could have been different. Well, things always look different on hindsight.
  • Pakistan for once looked like faltering against Sri Lanka in the limited overs cricket. They made a mountain out of a molehill in a fairly straightforward chase. After a decent beginning in the chase, the hosts lost their way. Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik pulled them back to show the right path but they failed to finish the job. The lower order huffed and puffed before the finish line and it required a calm and composed head of Shadab Khan to see them through.
  • What a nerve-racking game! It swung like a pendulum and Pakistan nearly messed up. Credit to Sri Lanka for their wholeheartedly effort. They weren't defending a big total but gave it their all. The bowling was on the money and it was backed up by some exceptional fielding. When you lose games like these, it hurts more. But at least they competed today, a big positive before heading to Lahore for the final T20I which now is a dead rubber.
  • 19.5 PAKISTAN WIN BY 2 WICKETS! Smiles all around. Take a bow, Shadab Khan. A youngster with a calm head. Doesn't get carried away. Maintains his cool. Knows only two runs are needed and hence doesn't try anything fancy. Just bunts a full ball down the ground, his partner is aware of the plan. By the time the long on fielder gets to the ball, they complete two runs. Brilliant. Outstanding. 2-0, Pakistan!
  • 19.4 SIX! Go fetch that! Shadab Khan is a superstar! He has absolutely murdered that delivery from his sight. It's right in the slot, full and on middle, Shadab makes room and launches it over the bowler's head for a maximum. Wow, talk about pressure and this young wonder kid dealing with it without any fuss. Just two more needed.
  • 19.3 DROPPED! COSTLY MISS! A full length ball around off, Hasan winds up for a big shot but ends up slicing it in the air towards long off. Gunathilaka rushes across to his left from the deep, puts in a leap but fails to hold on to the catch. It bursts through his hands, rolls behind and by the time it's retrieved, the batsmen take three runs.
  • 19.2 Full and on middle, forced down to long on for one.
  • HASAN ALI walks in at number 10, replacing Ashraf. He can tonk a few maximums. Pakistan would dearly love one at this time...
  • 19.1 OUT! A wicket first ball makes it even more interesting. Very full in length ball on leg, Fahim swings his bat across the line although there wasn't enough room available. He fails to time his shot well and gets caught at long on by Gunathilaka.
  • Here we go then... 12 runs needed. 6 balls remaining. Who is the bowler? Who is the bowler? No options left for Thisara. It is.... VIKUM SANJAYA.
  • 18.6 Appeal for an lbw, not entertained. Angling into the batsman, Ashraf tries heaving but misses and is hit on the pads. Missing leg, hence the umpire showed no interest. Only 4 from the over. 113/7
  • 18.5 Yorker outside off, a swing and a miss by Fahim. Lovely bowling.
  • 18.4 Another wild slog resulting in an inside edge onto the pads. A run stolen. 13 needed from 8 balls.
  • 18.3 Goes for a big heave over the leg side but gets an inside edge down to long leg. A single taken.
  • 18.2 Spears in a very full ball on middle, Shadab digs it out on the leg side and scampers across to the other end. Udana has a shy at the bowler's end but misses. Shadab would have been a goner.
  • What has happened here? We have an appeal for hold your breath - OBSTRUCTING THE FIELD. Isuru Udana complained to the umpire that Ashraf came in his way else he could have affected a run out. This is interesting...
  • 18.1 NOT OUT! Udana steams in from around the wicket and angles in a length ball from wide of the crease. Shadab drives it straight back and the bowler moves across to his right to stop the ball. But the non-striker who was already down the track tries to return and gets in the bowler's way. Now then, Sri Lanka are appealing for obstructing the field. Hmmm...interesting. The umpires go upstairs and after watching the replays the third umpire decides that it wasn't intentional from Ashraf. Get on with the game.
  • 17.6 Angling into the batsman, around off, Shadab swings across the line, trying to slog over mid-wicket but gets an inside edge onto the pads. It deflects to covers and they cross. 9 runs and two wickets off the over! 109/7

  • 16.5 Top effort, Priyanjan. It wasn't an 'Aasan (easy in Hindi) stop. Short in length on middle, Sarfraz pulls it thunderously through mid-wicket and it races through. Priyanjan moves swiftly across to his right from long on and makes a tremendous diving stop. Saves two runs for his side. Every run matters in this close game.

  • Imad Wasim arrives. There is a bowling change too. Vikum Sanjaya is brought back into the attack.

It's caught in the deep by Thisara Perera. 31 needed off 24 balls, this game is not done yet, folks. 4-0-18-1 - Pathirana is done for the night, brilliant stuff! 94/5

  • 15.4 Pathirana drags his length short and drops it on middle, Hafeez plays a powerful pull shot to deep mid-wicket for a run.

  • Change of helmet for Sarfraz Ahmed. Quite humid out there and the skipper is sweating profusely. Hang on, it's the wrong helmet which has been handed over to him. Ahmed is furious with his teammate who rushes back to get the correct gear. Meanwhile, he is sipping some water. Sri Lanka shouldn't be liking it as it's hampering their momentum.
  • 13.5 Short in length on middle, pulled to deep backward square leg for a couple of runs.
  • 13.4 Run out appeal is taken upstairs! It's a good piece of wickekeeping. Sarfraz kneels to fetch a full toss from around off and works it through square leg. • 10.1 OUT! Perera leading from the front. He hunts down the big fish this time. Don't mind me saying but it was a pretty innocuous delivery. Landing on a length and going almost straight on. Malik pushes at it tamely and gets a faint edge behind to the keeper. Samarawickrama makes no mistake, they all scream in a joyous appeal and the finger goes up. This match is becoming interesting with the passage of every minute. 70 needed from 59 balls. Over to Sarfraz Ahmed.

  • 8.4 OUT! Wow, now go to the third ball and imagine the kind of impact that exceptional piece of fielding has on this wicket. Firstly it kept Shehzad on strike, frustrated him too and now has uprooted him from the crease. It's that fielder again, Dasun Shanaka, playing his part in this wicket. A short ball is pulled by Shehzad, not a proper connection and Shanaka times his jump to perfection at short mid-wicket to catch it over his head. Awesome display!
  • 8.4 Wide called for a height! A bouncer goes over the batsman's head.
  • 8.3 Dasun Shanaka, you Jonty Rhodes! The ball was travelling but he made a brilliant diving stop. A short ball on off, Shehzad blasts his pull shot across the line and will feel hard done by that exceptional piece of fielding. Robbing him of a certain boundary.
  • 8.2 Played to the point region by the batsman. No run.
  • 8.1 Opportunity at the bowler's end! Back of a length delivery angling back into the batsman, Shehzad skips down the track and punches it square of the wicket on the off side. They cross for a run and Malik is taken by surprise that Shehzad hurries back for the second run. Shoaib is always ready for those, he responds but is casually watching back as the throw was fired at the striker's end. Samarawickrama senses that and immediately has a shy at the bowler's end. Malik had to stretch there. Would have been touch and go in case of a direct hit.

  • 6.5 Full and on off, angling away, Ahmed stays back to push at it but it takes the inside edge and ricochets off his pads to point. They steal another run.
  • 6.4 Shortish and outside off, Malik packs a punch from the back foot, a ferocious square cut but Danushka Gunathilaka makes a brilliant half stop. Only a single taken. Sri Lanka need to be on top of their game in the field.
  • 6.3 Tries to run it down to third man but it's too close to his body. He fails to middle and as a result it goes off the high half of the bat to the keeper.

  • 4.3 Fullish and outside off, driven off the front foot to covers.
  • 4.2 Full and on middle, defended back.
  • Shoaib Malik is the new batsman.
  • 4.1 OUT! Babar has been adjudged lbw, yet another single digit score for him. This game is a great leveller. He struggled in Tests, showed Bradmanesque form in the ODIs and once again is going through a lean form in the shortest version. Shifting between formats ain't easy. Coming to the wicket, it's angled away from the batsman, landing around middle and off and skidding through in the direction of the bowler's arm. Azam gets across a shade trying to defend but misses and is rapped on the pads. They appeal and the umpire raises his finger after thinking for a while. No DRS available (not sure why, as according to the new rules of ICC it should have been there) and a dejected Azam returns to the pavilion. The replays show that the impact was umpire's call but it was missing the off stump. A harsh call.
  • Udana is brought into the attack.
  • 3.6 Angles it in on the pads, tucked through square leg for a single. 31/1
  • Babar Azam is the new batsman.
  • 3.5 OUT! Miscommunication and Pakistan have lost their first wicket! But exceptional fielding in the deep from Udana. Seam-up delivery on the pads, Zaman whips it towards mid-wicket. Udana in the deep puts in a brilliant dive to stop the boundary. And then he gets up quickly and fires an accurate throw to the keeper. Zaman wanted the third, Shehzad called for it but then at the last moment sends him back. By the time Zaman dives to get back in, the keeper already dislodges the bails. They refer it upstairs and replays confirm that Fakhar is well short of his ground. He walks back fuming.
  • Another run out in the game, 4th one of the match to be precise! And to be honest, Zaman seems to be struggling here. It is taken upstairs...

  • 3.3 Floats it up outside off, slapped straight to the fielder at cover.
  • 3.2 Around middle and leg, flicked through mid-wicket for a single.

  • 2.6 Gives a bit of width this time. Zaman drives it straight to the cover fielder. 23/0
  • 2.5 FOUR! Change of bat doing it for Zaman! He just changed the bat and scores a boundary on the very first ball. Fuller in length, angling in, Zaman brings his bat down in time and nails it past the man at mid on for a boundary.

  • 1.4 Comes forward and drives it towards mid off for a single.
  • 1.3 Darts it on the pads, whipped behind square on the leg side for a single.
  • 1.2 Loopy delivery around middle, flicked straight to mid-wicket.

  • 0.5 A little bit of width on offer outside off, Ahmed runs it down to third man for one.
  • 0.4 Swings and swings hard, yes too hard but not enough to clear ropes. Shehzad lofts it over mid-wicket, a lot of elevation there but not much distance. It falls safely in the deep mid-wicket region for a couple of runs.
  • 0.4 Wide! Slips a length ball down the leg side, Shehzad tries flicking but missing.
  • 0.3 Angling in a full ball on off, Shehzad strides forward and defends it to the off side.

  • 0.1 Hint of swing first up. Full and on off, Shehzad is on the front foot as he pushes it gently towards mid off.
  • Welcome back for the run chase! Pakistan openers, Fakhar Zaman and Ahmed Shehzad walk out in the middle. Vikum Sanjaya to kickoff the proceedings with the ball. Can he get an early breakthrough? A slip in place for him...
