  • It's an excellent pitch for batting. The bounce is true and stroke making is not difficult. The Kiwi spinners did a good job and there was some turn on offer for them. It's often said that if Pakistan manage a good total on the board, they have the bowling to defend it. Today, they have 262 in the wallet, will their bowlers prove that saying correct? Batting under lights is always considered to be tricky. Can go both ways. Do join us in a short while to find out which way the chase goes...
  • Although the Kiwi bowlers gave away some free runs towards the end, they will be pleased with their overall effort. The hosts started very well and just when the pair of Haris Sohail and Fakhar Zaman got going, Kane Williamson introduced himself and Mitchell Santner in the middle overs. The spin twin bowled some tidy overs to dry up the runs which created pressure and in return fetched wickets. Apart from them, Tim Southee also impressed with his 3-wicket haul, while Trent Boult had a rare bad day at work.
  • It was an interesting decision by Sarfraz Ahmed to bat first under slightly overcast conditions. Pakistan soon found themselves in trouble after losing a couple of early wickets but then the 86-run partnership between Haris Sohail and Fakhar Zaman brought them back on the track. Both the batsmen, though, fell immediately after getting their fifties and Pakistan's innings was staring down the barrel.
  • That's a powerful finish by Pakistan - 33 runs in the last two overs! Take a bow, Mohammad Hafeez. Some extraordinary hitting by the experienced batsman. His 98-run partnership with Sarfraz was also very crucial as it provided the much-needed push to the dying innings.
  • 49.6 OUT! Pinpoint yorker on middle, Hafeez keeps it out besides the pitch on the leg side and sets off. Boult is quick as lightning. Dives to his right, collects the ball, turns and aims at the bowler's end and hits the bull's eye. Hafeez was not even in the frame. PAKISTAN FINISH ON 262/8!
  • 49.5 SIX! Oh ho! A mistimed shot has carried all the way now. This is carnage! Short ball on middle and leg, Hafeez gives it his all on the pull shot but gets a big top edge. The ball clears the fine leg fence with ease. The gentleman in orange goes for the catch but misses. Sir, you missed a chance of winning yourself 50 grands. 22 from the over already.
  • 49.4 FOUR! Boult has lost his radar and is paying the price for it! Low full toss outside off, all Hafeez has to do is to pick the gap on the off side. He does so and drives it through covers to find the fence.
  • 49.3 SIX! Just over the man at long off! Low full toss outside off, Hafeez lifts it over mid off. The fielder near the ropes thinks he is in with a chance. Leaps but the ball sails over him. Yes, Pakistan go past the 250-run mark. Gaining momentum nicely at the fag end.
  • 49.2 Brilliantly bowled! Slower ball on a shortish length outside off, Hafeez is early into his pull and gets beaten.
  • 49.1 SIX! Going, going, gone! In the zone for Hafeez, he clear his front leg and tonks it over long on for a mammoth maximum. That came right off the screws.
  • 48.6 SIX! Bang! Good shot from Khan! On a length around off, Khan hangs back and flat-bats it over the vacant long off region for a maximum. 240/7
  • 48.5 Slower short ball, pulled through square leg for a run.
  • Shadab Khan comes out to bat. Can Pakistan go past 250?
  • 48.4 OUT! This is bowling according to the field and reaping the dividends as a result! Ali uses his feet and Southee smartly rolls his fingers on this one. The tailender goes through with his heave and doesn't get it off the meat of the bat. The ball swirls in the sky and Guptill in the deep mid-wicket region pouches it safely.
  • 48.3 Another short ball, pulled to the leg side for a run.
  • 48.3 Wide! Short ball but this one is too high. Hafeez misses out on the hook. Wide called for height.
  • 48.2 Full length ball, drilled to long on for a run.
  • 48.1 Angling into Hafeez who tries to tuck it away but the ball brushes his pads and rolls to square leg. A leg bye taken.
  • Southee returns for a bowl.
  • 47.6 Sharp short ball, Ali goes for the pull but misses. 229/6
  • 47.5 It's been driven superbly through the covers. One run added to the total.
  • Hasan Ali is the new man in.
  • 47.4 OUT! Smart piece of bowling from Boult brings in the reward! End of an enterprising knock from the skipper and also the 98-run stand. On a length at 111.5 kph, angling across Ahmed. He clears his front leg and goes for a hoick over mid-wicket but gets a leading edge that balloons towards backward point. Guptill stationed there is safe as houses. Boult gets his first wicket.
  • 47.4 The ball is too wide on the off side for the batsman to make any contact. The umpire has signalled a wide.
  • 47.3 Yorker outside off, carved through the same region to rotate strike.
  • 47.2 On a fullish length outside off, flayed through point to rotate strike.

  • 46.5 Fullish and well outside off, steered to third man for a run.
  • 46.4 Slower short ball, pulled behind square leg for a run.
  • 46.3 The batsman plays a pull shot to this short delivery. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 46.2 Wide outside off, Sarfraz tries to reach it but fails.
  • 46.1 SIX! Classical Ahmed! Terrific execution! Ferguson bowls a length delivery from around off, Ahmed makes room and lifts it nonchalantly over extra over for a biggie.
  • 45.6 Driven through mid on for a run. 208/5
  • 45.5 Brilliant yorker outside off, Ahmed can do nothing about it.
  • 45.4 Fullish ball, hit hard to long on for a single. That brings up the 50 for Hafeez, his 34th in ODIs! It has been a good knock. Can he tee off now?
  • 45.3 Run out chance missed! Full toss outside off, Hafeez drives it towards Taylor at point and sets off. No run is on offer and he is sent back by his skipper. Taylor aims at the striker's end but misses. Had that hit, he was out by a country mile.
  • 45.2 SIX! Ho ho ho! What a hit. Clean as a whistle. Slower ball at 111 clicks around off, it is in the zone for Hafeez. This time he doesn't miss out. Connects with his hoick handsomely and sends it way over the mid-wicket ropes. Well, that has gone over the tree and out of the stadium as well. 105 meters, to be precise.
  • 45.1 Hafeez missed out there! In the arc outside off, Hafeez swings across the line but misses.
  • Boult is back on for his final spell.
  • 44.6 Smart cricket from Ferguson! Sees Ahmed backing away and bowls a full and fast ball outside off. Ahmed reaches out but can't connect. Only 2 from this one, Ferguson is breathing fire. 200/5

  • 44.4 Ahmed makes room and drills the fullish ball to the cover region.
  • 44.3 Overpitched outside off, sliced through point for a single.
  • 44.2 Dropped! Not an easy chance though! Short ball around off, slower in pace, Ahmed goes for a full-blooded pull and hits it straight towards Ross Taylor at short mid-wicket. He leaps, gets both his hands to it but the ball pops out and falls down. A single taken.
  • 44.1 The batsman defends it from within the crease.
  • 43.6 Quicker in pace, cut hard but straight to the backward point fielder. Good comeback from Santner after being hit for 10 runs in his first two balls. He finishes with figures of 10-0-43-1. 198/5

  • 43.4 Fuller in length, pushed back towards Santner.
  • 43.3 Much slower this time, cut away with the spin through point for a single.
  • 43.2 FOUR! Finds the same gap with precision! Juicy full toss outside off, Ahmed lines it up and smacks it to the same side of the field for a boundary.
  • 43.1 SIX! Shot! Pakistan need to bring out such shots on a consistent basis. Tossed up outside off, Ahmed crouches and nails the slog sweep over deep mid-wicket for a maximum. Hit that flat as an arrow.

  • 42.5 Fuller in length, shaping in, milked down to long on for a run.

  • 41.5 Nervy! Fullish outside off, stays a bit low this time. Hafeez reaches out to it and inside edges it past the keeper towards fine leg. A run taken.
  • 41.4 Ooh.. that one gripped! Floated around off, spins and bounces away sharply. Hafeez is surprised by it and gets foxed.

  • 40.5 Tries to innovate but fails to execute it. Slower on a fullish length, Hafeez moves inside the line and tries to scoop but mistimes it past the keeper. A run taken.
  • 40.4 Full marks for the commitment! Southee bowled the previous over but is giving it his all in the field. That is the way it should be. Short ball on leg stump, pulled nicely through square leg. Southee in the deep moves swiftly to his left, slides and saves a couple for his side.

  • 40.2 Another off pace delivery, this time outside off, driven nicely through covers for a brace.

  • 38.5 Stays rooted to his crease and nudges it to the leg side to rotate strike.

  • Time for drinks. The NZ spinners have done a commendable job in the middle overs. They dried up the runs which resulted in a few wickets. Pakistan innings is in need of a big finish now to get somewhere around 250. The experienced pair of Hafeez and Sarfraz will have to do the bulk of the scoring against the accurate death bowlers of the home team.
  • 37.6 Good length ball around off, takes off after pitching. Ahmed has an agricultural slog at it but misses. The ball hits his thigh pad and rolls behind square on the off side. A leg bye taken. 164/5
  • 37.5 SIX! Bang! Downtown goes Sarfraz! Gets one in the arc and swings at it with all his might. Sends it sailing over long on for a maximum. Well, it has been dropped in the crowd. We saw a terrific one-handed catch being taken in the previous game, not this time around though.

  • It's all been Pakistan in the last two paragraphs and before you term me biased towards one particular team, let me tell - you seldom have something new to write about a performing team and the risk of repeating yourself is quite high. Still to prove that I'm a neutral in this clash here is a sentence on the Kiwis - After pocketing this series by delivering some dominating performances, they might look to test their bench strength and the tourists might be in with their best chance to taste some success on his tour, ohh I again brought the Pakistani angle, pardon me. But believe me, it's better for the game of cricket. Stay tuned for the toss...
  • It's tough being a fan of the Pakistani team and sometimes you feel sad for them. The unpredictable nature of the Men in Green doesn't allow them the confidence to back them with full confidence. This game being a day-night one is starting a little late than the last three games but it still will be early winter morning in most parts of the subcontinent but I'm sure they will be up in anticipation of a fightback. Let's hope for the same for the sake of a fair battle between bat and ball.
  • Series was done and dusted in the last game when a hapless Pakistan side surrendered meekly to face yet another humiliation on this tour. We're expecting a similar sort of game even today but having said that the current holders of the Champions Trophy have this habit of going against the general public notion. Keeping that in mind, let me welcome you all for the fourth ODI in Hamilton.
  • That's it from us for this game. A see-saw match and the hosts fought back and now have a chance to white-wash this Pakistan side when they face them on 19th of January, 2018 at 1100 local (2200 GMT). Should be a good game as Pakistan will want to go into the T20's with some momentum. Do join us for all the action from that. Till then, take care and cheers! You can now switch your tabs to the much anticipated game between South Africa and India.
  • The Pakistan captain, Sarfraz Ahmed says that it was a very disappointing loss for them but they had positives to take from this game as Fakhar Zaman, Haris Sohail and Mohammad Hafeez batted really well. He mentions that it was a good total on the board and had confidence in his bowlers to defend it. On being interviewed about de Grandhomme's innings he says he played a really great knock and some big strikes from him helped them win the match.
  • New Zealand captain Kane Williamson walks in for an interview. About the game, he says it was a good one and Pakistan played well. Adds that they didn't lose early wickets but lost quite a few in the middle overs. Continues saying that Colin de Grandhomme played well and it was a special innings from him. Informs that they practice playing spin during the net session but it was different today. Gives credit to the top order for providing them with a good start. Praises Henry Nicholls for his contribution. Ends by saying that it feels nice to win the game as they were under pressure.
  • Colin de Grandhomme bags the Man of the Match award for his quickfire 74 runs off 40 balls. On being asked, how did he feel going out in the middle, he replies that he was hitting it well and got underneath the ball to clear it away. He mentions how key it was to build a partnership with Henry Nicholls and take it to the very end which they eventually managed.
  • Pakistan played a lot better today but still suffered the same fate. It was a case of one man playing an extraordinary knock to take away the game from them. Shadab Khan was the star performer for the visitors but apart from him, their bowling lacked discipline and consistency. With just one game left, they will have to better their overall performance to avoid the whitewash.
  • The Kiwi skipper was dismissed in the 35th over and New Zealand needed 109 runs more then off 90 balls. But Pakistan's hope of capitalizing from thereon was punctured by Colin de Grandhomme's blitzkrieg. His whirlwind 40-ball 74 knock included 12 brutal boundaries and the tourists just surrendered in front of his might. Henry Nicholls also anchored the innings well and was a quiet contributor in a couple of crucial stands.
  • New Zealand got off to a flying start chasing a target of 263. Colin Munro was in his elements and along with Martin Guptill laid a solid platform up front. Just when it seemed that the match is done and dusted, Pakistan made a resounding comeback. Shadab Khan was in the thick of things as he forced a collapse. From 0 for 88, New Zealand slipped to 4 for 99 and were staring down the barrel when Kane Williamson got together with Henry Nicholls to thread a 55-run stand.

It has been a display of belligerent hitting, especially from Colin.

  • 38.6 FOUR! Cracker of a shot by de Grandhomme. He rocked back on the back foot and punched it through the covers for a boundary. The match which looked evenly poised after Williamson's dismissal now seems to be slipping away from the Men in Green. 13 runs came off that over. 197/5

Raees positions himself near the ropes to perfection. Takes his hands over his head and grabs a terrific catch. The balance was spot on there.
