Date: Sunday, 18 February, 2018 15:03 IST Venue: Seddon Park, Hamilton Match Status: Match Ended

England beat New Zealand by 2 runs

  • So, we have a game on our hands. We are informed that, England need to restrict the hosts to 174 or below to make it through. If the previous game is anything to go by, the Black Caps should back themselves. Who will be joining Australia for the final? Join us in just a bit for the run chase...
  • After Malan's departure, Morgan still stood tall and took it further. The batsman to follow next provided vital lusty blows which in the end saw England finish with a par total, though I don't know if it would be safe to call it one. The New Zealand bowlers started well but didn't take long to wilt under the carnage. Apart from Southee and Sodhi everyone else received a strong beating. Boult got three, but at the cost of a half century.
  • What a show from England! After being inserted into bat, Jason Roy got them off to a flying start but couldn't keep it going for too long. Both the openers were sent back to the hut inside the Powerplay and it seemed like the Kiwis won't let England dominate. However, it was Dawid Malan and skipper, Eoin Morgan who started the onslaught then. The duo smashed it all-around the park to raise a cracking 93-run stand and thereby, resurrecting the innings that died down at the start. Both got their respective fifties in the process.
  • 19.6 SIX! A maximum to end the innings! Chris Jordan doesn't want to leave, he wants to hit some more but then he realizes it was the last ball and rushes back. Slower back of a length ball, Chris Jordan stands tall and smokes it over long off. Clean strike and England end with a huge 194 on the board!
  • 19.5 Very full on the stumps, drilled down to long off for a single.
  • Chris Jordan is the next man in.
  • 19.4 OUT! Straight to the man! Slower short ball, comes slowly off the deck, Dawson waits for an eternity and then slaps it straight to Guptill at long off who takes a dolly.
  • 19.3 FOUR! Top edge! Slower back of a length delivery, Dawson makes room and ends up slicing it over point. 10 in two for Dawson.
  • 19.2 SIX! On the pads and it goes the distance! Good length delivery on the pads, Dawson just swings at it. Gets enough meat to clear the deep backward square leg.
  • 19.1 Morgan backs away but Trent follows him. Morgan hits it down to long on for a single.
  • Liam Dawson is the new man in.
  • 18.6 OUT! Caught! Willey departs in his bid to get some more! Fuller delivery, wider of off, Willey makes room and flays it over extra cover. Guptill in the deep takes the catch with ease. Tim Southee finishes his spell with figures of 4-0-22-2! 176/6
  • 18.5 FOUR! Willey anticipates the slower one, waits back and flat-bats it down to long on for a boundary.
  • 18.4 The batsman plays the pull-shot. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 18.3 Fires in a yorker on middle, Morgan jams it out.
  • 18.2 Crouches low to a wider ball and squeezes it out to long off for one.
  • 18.1 FOUR! Boom! Southee overcooks it, keeps it full on the stumps, Willey clears the front leg and brutally hits it straight back down the ground. A boundary to begin the penultimate over.
  • 17.6 Low full toss, dipping in, smashed down to long off for a single. Just 2 from the last three ball after giving 16 in the first three. 166/5
  • David Willey is the new man in.
  • 17.5 OUT! Scooped onto the stumps! Sam Billings gets across a long way, Boult keeps following him. Billings looks to play the paddle scoop but gets it off the face and it deflects back onto the stumps. Some respite for the Kiwis.
  • 17.4 Fires it onto the stumps, Morgan could only jam it out towards the off side. Finally a good ball.
  • 17.3 SIX! Make it 16 from the first three! Pitches it on middle and off, Morgan powers it straight back down the ground. A maximum results agaim!
  • 17.2 FOUR! Unlucky Boult! Fuller ball, it's almost a yorker. Morgan looks to dig it out but gets an inside edge down to fine leg for a boundary. 10 off the first two balls.
  • 17.1 SIX! What a meaty blow! Fuller in length and angling in on the stumps, Morgan clears the front leg and goes bang down the ground for another maximum.
  • Trent Boult is back into the attack. He has given just 14 in the 2 overs.
  • 16.6 Sees Billings giving the charge and hence fires it full outside off, Sam jams it out towards the off side. 15 from this over. 148/4
  • 16.5 A short delivery which has been pulled away. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 16.4 SIX! Waits for the slower one and goes bang! Maybe, Southee is overdoing it at the moment. Morgan waits back and pummels it over mid-wicket for a maximum.
  • 16.3 Sam Billings heaves it across the line but gets it off the inner half.
  • 16.2 Cutter from de Grandhomme, mistimed punch down the ground for a single.
  • 16.1 SIX! Down the track and that's a big one! Good length delivery, angling in on middle and leg. Morgan dances down the track and heaves it over mid-wicket for a maximum. Fifty up for Morgan, a good comeback game for the English skipper.
  • 15.6 Shuffles across and pulls it through square leg for a single to end the over. Another good over, just 6 off it. 133/4
  • 15.5 The batsman gets to the pitch of the ball and connects. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 15.4 On a length, stopping a bit on the surface, Morgan is early into his push as he pops it out safely towards cover for one.
  • 15.3 Slower back of the hand delivery on middle, Billings punches it down the ground for a single.
  • 15.2 Pitches it on the stumps, driven to mid on for a single.
  • 15.1 Angling in from a length, Sam flicks it aerially towards deep square leg for one.
  • Tim Southee is back on.
  • 14.6 Makes room but could only punch it back to de Grandhomme. Just 4 off it and 7 in his last two. Superb! 127/4
  • 14.5 Good length delivery, comes slowly off the surface, Morgan is early into his tuck and gets a soft leading edge back towards the bowler.
  • 14.4 The batsman works it down the leg side. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 14.3 A bit wider outside off, cut away through point for a single.
  • 14.2 Comes down the track and steers it through point for a single.
  • 14.1 Played to the point region by the batsman. They pick up a single.
  • Sam Billings arrives next, replacing Buttler.
  • 13.6 OUT! Stumped! Sodhi strikes on the last ball of his spell! Slower through the air, it's the loopy leg break, landing around off. Buttler dances down the track to have a crack at it across the line but the ball spins away from him and his opposite number behind the stumps makes no mistake. Buttler didn't even try to come back in as he just continues to walk away in disappointment. Good little passage of play for the Kiwis. Sodhi finishes his spell with figures of 4-0-31-1! 123/4
  • 13.5 Slower through the air, spinning in, Morgan works it off the pads through square leg for a single.
  • 13.4 Gets back and wrists it towards the leg side for nothing.
  • 13.3 Flighted delivery, turning in from around off, Morgan prods forward to defend but misses and is hit on the pads. No appeal as it was going down leg.
  • 13.2 Drops it a bit short on middle, Buttler rocks back and pulls it in front of square on the leg side for another single.
  • 13.1 Works it with the spin through mid-wicket for a single.
  • 12.6 Outstanding over from de Grandhomme! Just 3 and a big wicket of Malan from it! Another slower length delivery, the cheekiness of Buttler comes in. He looks to reverse paddle this but fails to get any connection. 120/3
  • 12.5 Length ball, taking all the pace, a gentle push to the cover fielder. Can Colin finish it well?
  • 12.4 Eases it down to long on to rotate strike. Good over so far.
  • 12.3 Good length delivery on the stumps, slower in pace, Jos looks to drive but gets it off the inside edge through backward square leg for one. He's off the mark.
  • 12.2 Morgan hangs back and dabs it down towards third man for a single.
  • 12.1 OUT! The bowling change has done the trick! Dawid Malan perishes after a fifty! Timely one for the hosts as he was threatening to run away with the show. Slower length delivery, angling in on middle, Malan hits it high but doesn't get the distance. Chapman near the deep mid-wicket fence is safe as a house to take it neatly. End of an enterprising 93-run stand.
  • Jos Buttler walks in next.
  • 11.6 Opens the face of the bat and guides it towards point for a single. 117/2
  • Colin de Grandhomme is back into the attack. Understandably so as Santner was taken to the cleaners.
  • 11.5 Dropped! Quicker and shorter in length, Malan goes hard at it and gets a thick edge. The keeper had no chance to react. He gets a glove to it but the lobs behind. Tough chance!
  • 11.4 Flatter delivery, turning the other way, Malan looks to cut but gets an inside edge past leg stump towards short fine leg.
  • 11.3 SIX! Boom! Flighted delivery around middle and off, Dawid Malan sits down and launches it high and handsome over cow corner. Phew! Get new balls because this has been lost. Also, it brings up the fifty for Malan, 4th in this format. What a series he is having. Can he make a big one?
  • Free Hit coming up. Will England make the most of it?
  • 11.3 Loopy full toss, Morgan smacks it straight down the throat of Guptill at deep mid-wicket and crosses over. The Kiwi opener knew it would be a no ball and hence he doesn't even celebrate and release the throw quickly. Morgan asked to wait as the umpire checks it upstairs. Replays indicate it's a clear no ball.
  • Morgan gets caught in the deep. But it seems to be a waist high no ball. The umpires are having a chat and have called for some help from the TV umpire.
  • 11.2 Flatter and turning back in. Morgan slaps it through backward point for a brace as the man in the deep does well to stop it with a dive.
  • 11.1 Gives it nice air, lands it pretty full outside off, EM digs it out to mid off.
  • 10.6 Tossed up outside off, pushed towards the same region. A dot to end a huge over, 21 from it. 106/2
  • 10.5 Very full, almost a yorker on the stumps, jammed out to cover for one.
  • 10.5 Wide! Santner is looking clueless here. Another one down the leg side and is lucky that Morgan didn't get any bat on it.
  • 10.4 SIX! That has been clubbed! Floated delivery on the stumps, Morgan gets down on one knee and slog sweeps it powerfully over deep mid-wicket. That's gone a long way. 19 already off the over and Eoin is on a roll here.
  • 10.3 FOUR! Make that three in a row! Santner darts it down the leg side, Morgan's quick hands come into the picture. He gets low and swipes it past the man at 45 for a boundary.
  • 10.2 FOUR! Good shot! A bit slower through the air, served outside off, Morgan stays leg side and lofts it inside out over extra cover for another boundary.
  • 10.2 Wide! Flatter and fired down the leg side, Morgan misses out on the pull this time.
  • 10.1 FOUR! Cheeky from Morgan! Santner starts off with a fuller delivery, fired outside off, Eoin gets down and reverse sweeps it through backward point for a neat boundary.
  • Mitchell Santner is back on.
  • 9.6 Flatter outside off, cut away to Southee at short third man. 85/2 at the halfway stage. 85/2
  • 9.5 Almost chopped on. Flatter outside off, it spins in a touch. Malan looks to guide it through point but gets a bottom edge just past the off stump.
  • 9.4 SIX! It's raining sixes now. Sodhi had Malan on ice in the previous over and Dawid is all over him in this one. Dances down the ground to this one and belts it straight over the bowler's head for another maximum. He moves to 46 now.
  • 9.3 Nudged off the pads through square leg for one.
  • 9.2 This one is reverse swept away through point for one.
  • 9.1 SIX! Nice way to bring up the 50-run stand. Talks about Malan not picking up Sodhi can be thrashed away for now just like he has done here. Tossed up delivery on the stumps, he gets down and slogs it high and handsomely over deep mid-wicket.
  • 8.6 Around off and middle, turned through mid-wicket for one. Another 11-run over in the game. 71/2
  • 8.5 Full outside off, eased down to long on for one.
  • 8.4 Driven towards the mid on region. They pick up a single.
  • 8.3 SIX! BAMMM! Malan looks to be at ease against the seamers. Gets this on a length angling in, he plays it with the angle. Goes over wide long on and collects a maximum. And a guy in the crowd takes it one handed. It won't have any effect on this game but financial gains for him, personally.
  • 8.2 Morgan pushes this to long on for a single.
  • 8.1 Munro starts from round the wicket and bowls it fuller outside off. Driven through mid off for one.
  • Colin Munro is brought into the attack now.
  • 7.6 This one is driven down to long off for one. Good start from the leggie. 60/2
  • 7.5 When a batter doesn't pick up a spinner, the sweep shot comes out, says Nasser Hussain on air. Floated outside off, Malan gets down to sweep but misses and gets hit on the thigh pad.
  • 7.4 Malan doesn't seem to be picking Sodhi here. This is the wrong 'un outside off, Malan looks to go downtown and misses it completely.
  • 7.3 Punched off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 7.2 This one is reverse swept towards third man for a couple. Southee puts in the dive to save runs.
  • 7.1 Ishhhhhhh! Lovely delivery to start. Tosses this one up nicely outside off, Malan expects a googly and goes for the booming cover drive. The ball spins in viciously and misses the off stick by just a bit.
  • More spin. Ish Sodhi to have a bowl. He was the most economical Kiwi bowler in the run-fest at Auckland.
  • 6.6 This one is hit to sweeper cover for one. 16 runs from this over. Is that it for Kane with the ball tonight? 57/2
  • 6.5 Played to mid-wicket region by the batsman. They pick up a single.
  • 6.4 SIX! Another one! England have decided not to let an economical-Williamson over pass. Floated on a fuller length around off, Morgan clears his front leg and hits it clean as a whistle over long off for another biggie.
  • 6.3 Malan gets to the other end by pushing it through covers.
  • 6.2 SIX! Highhhh and goes the distance! Tossed up delivery around off and middle, Malan dances down and hits it in the air towards long on. Doesn't seem to have middled it but has enough to clear the ropes.
  • 6.1 Flatter outside off, Eoin goes back and punches it through covers for one.
  • False start! Kane strides in and rolls his arm but doesn't deliver the ball. Mind games, anyone?
  • Surprise, surprise! Kane Williamson to have a go with the ball now. His opposite number takes strike first up.
  • 5.6 Length ball, Malan tries to hit it too hard but ends up smashing it straight to mid-wicket for nothing. New Zealand will be breathing easy now - 41/2 after the Powerplay as compared to 91/0 in the last game. 41/2
  • 5.5 Hurled around middle and leg, nudged straight to mid-wicket.
  • 5.4 Very full outside off, Eoin digs it out to the off side and hares to the other end.
  • 5.3 Short in length, pulled away through square leg for one. The fielder in the deep did well to keep down to just one.
  • 5.2 Morgan works this away through square leg to get to the other end.
  • 5.1 Delivered at 115.2 kph, Malan charges down and pushes it through mid on for one.
  • Tim Southee comes back on. This is the last over of the Powerplay.
  • 4.6 Slanting in this time, worked away through mid-wicket to retain strike. 37/2
  • 4.5 The batsman has punched the ball off the back foot.
  • 4.4 De Grandhomme comes round the wicket and delivers it outside off. Malan fails to make contact with the attempted drive.
  • 4.3 FOUR! Good shot, screams Ricky, my colleague as soon as Malan made contact. This is hurled fuller in length, something that Dawid perhaps expected after the shorter one previously. He gets his front foot out of the way and thrashes it through covers all along the ground for consecutive boundaries.
  • 4.2 FOUR! Crashed! Short and angling away outside off, Malan stays back to this one and cuts it through the point region to pick up his first boundary.
  • 4.1 Begins with a full delivery outside off, it is driven towards covers. The man there dives and makes a half-stop and concedes one.
  • Another change. Colin de Grandhomme has the ball in hand. After a mini-conference invoving his skipper and another pacer, he is ready to run in.
  • 3.6 Slower deliveries seem to be the order of the day. This is angled in around middle and leg, Malan works it away through backward square leg to get going with a brace. 27/2
  • 3.5 Fuller in length, pushed down the ground to long on for one. Morgan gets off the mark.
  • 3.4 Slower ball on a length around off, Morgan reads it well and pushes it towards covers.
  • 3.3 This one is punched to the man at covers and a big NOOO is shouted by Eoin.
  • 3.2 Length ball on off, defended off the back foot.
  • English skipper Eoin Morgan makes his way out next. Needs to resurrect his team's batting here.
  • 3.1 OUT! Oh boy, here goes Jason Roy! A dismissal similar to that of Hales', the only difference being that here it is off a left arm bowler. Boult bowls a slower one angling away from Roy, from over the wicket. Roy reaches out to that, failing to read the change in pace. All he does is scoop it high in the air for Williamson at mid off to pick up his second catch in his 50th T20I. England in a spot of bother early.
  • Change of ends for Trent Boult. He replaces Santner from that end.
  • 2.6 Played to the point region by the batsman. Just two runs and a wicket off this one. 24/1
  • 2.6 WIDE! On a length down the leg side, Malan misses the pull. The keeper takes that and they go up in appeal. The umpire has nothing to do with this bluff appeal and he stretches his arms.
  • 2.5 Length ball on the pads, flicked towards square leg.
  • 2.4 Similar delivery around off, Roy reads the pace well and pushes it to mid on for one.
  • Dawid Malan makes his way out at number 3.
  • 2.3 OUT! Early wicket was the order of the day and Southee provides the Kiwis just that. He hurls a slower one on a fuller length just outside off. Hales looks to chip it over mid off. Doesn't have enough pace on that to get it over the fielder. Williamson there backtracks a bit and comfortably holds on to that. Hales has the potential to take the game away from the opposition and he is nipped in the bud early.
  • 2.2 This is outside off, placed straight to the man at backward point.
  • 2.1 On a length around off, defended with a straight bat.
  • Tim Southee replaces Boult after just one over.
  • 1.6 Floated on the stumps, defended from the crease. 11 off the second over as well. 22/0
  • 1.5 Flatter on the stumps, nudged to mid-wicket.
  • 1.4 FOUR! Oh Santner! He delivers another half-tracker on middle, Roy goes back and pulls it with disdain over mid-wicket for a one-bounce boundary. Already 3 boundaries and a six in this innings for him. He is up and running early.
  • 1.3 FOUR! Roy's intentions are crystal clear - ATTACK! Gets a delivery on a shortish length around off, Roy gets down and plays the reverse sweep over backward point for a boundary.
  • 1.2 Lovely delivery. Nicely tossed up on middle and leg, there is a hint of spin on that one. Hales gets it off the outer edge towards point to get off the mark.
  • 1.1 Floated around middle, Roy slinks down and pushes it to long on to get to the other end.
  • 1.1 WIDE! Flatter trajectory but down the leg side, Roy fails to flick it away.
  • Mitchell Santner is back in the side and he will bowl with the new ball from the other end. A slip stands in anticipation.
  • 0.6 Short length ball again, pulled straight to deep square leg for a single. 11 off the opening over in the game. 11/0
  • 0.5 Fuller and wider outside off, Roy fails to reach that as he had made a bit of room.
  • 0.4 FOUR! Poor from Boult. Doesn't seem to have learned from the outcome of the previous ball. Hurls this one on an even shorter length, Jason has all the time in the world to go back and pull it through backward square leg. Gets a boundary. 10 runs already on the board.
  • 0.3 SIX! Roy starts to party! Gets a length ball, a touch on the shorter side. Roy transfers his weight on the back foot and blasts it high over the deep mid-wicket fence for half a dozen. That's SOME way to open yours and your team's account.
  • 0.2 Yorker on the stumps, dug out well by Jason. Boult has got his tails up here.
  • 0.1 On the money. Hurled on a length around middle and leg, Roy pushes it back towards mid on.
  • It's time for the proceedings to get underway. Out walk the umpires followed by the Black-attired players. Kane Williamson steps out to play his 50th T20I. Alex Hales and Jason Roy stride out with the bat. The latter will face Trent Boult first up. A slip in position. Let's go...
  • TOSS - The coin flips in Kane Williamson's favour and ENGLAND HAVE BEEN INSERTED IN TO BAT. Just a change for the Black Caps as Mitchell Santner comes in for Ben Wheeler. A bulk of changes for England. Skipper Eoin Morgan, Liam Dawson and Tom Curran are in at the expense of James Vince, Mark Wood and Liam Plunkett.
  • Now to England, who will be playing their 100th T20I. They need to win this one by a big margin to go through, as they are the only winless side in the competition so far. Eoin Morgan, being fit and ready to lead the side, is the news that would sound music to their ears. They have Ben Stokes with them too, but all indicators have pointed to them resisting the temptation to rush him in the side straightaway. Liam Plunkett is ruled out and Tom Curran should slot in for him, which we shall confirm when the teams are announced after the toss. Surprisingly, after a stellar outing with the white ball in Australia, the English have looked a pale shadow of themselves. Does the English side have it in them to crush the hosts? Or will the Men in Black ensure their presence in the finale? Stay with us as we take the journey to uncover just that.
  • Must-win scenario, knockout scene, twenty-overs-a-side contest - could anything better spice up your Sunday morning? New Zealand are taking on England at Seddon Park in Hamilton, in what would decide the second finalist of this triangular T20I series. It's a pleasure having you with us for our coverage of game 6. The hosts are coming on the back of a nerve-wracking, morale-clattering loss against their Trans-Tasman rivals and would look to pick themselves up for this crucial clash. What will comfort them a bit is their favourable record in the format at this venue, apart from the bigger ground dimensions than in Auckland. A win and they will be through.

New Zealand Vs England Live Score (T20) Ball by Ball Commentary

  • That brings us to the end of this thrilling encounter. Yes, forget about the qualification part, it still was a very close finish. Now we will move back to Eden Park in Auckland for the final match of this triangular series. The Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand and Australia clash for the title on 21st February, 2018. Hope to see you then at 1900 local time (0600 GMT). Meanwhile, there are a couple of T20Is coming your way. In the first, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka clash against each other while South Africa and India clash in the other. Switch tabs to catch those. Till the next time, ta-ta, take care!
  • The losing skipper, Kane Williamson, says that England played very well but the spirits in his side are high. Reckons that his southpaws batting with the ball spinning in was a positive for them. Credits Martin Guptill for playing a holding role in the middle, after blasting his way in the previous game. About Mark Chapman, he says that this was a mature knock from the youngster that helped them bring the game close. About going back to the run-hungry conditions for the final, he says that they'll look to execute their plans better in the finals.
  • England skipper, Eoin Morgan, is adjudged as the Man of the Match. He admits to this not being a happy feeling due to their inability to qualify. Says it is difficult when Colin Munro and Martin Guptill come out the way they did. States that the plan against Munro was to tuck him up but he seized the advantage with the field restrictions in place. Reckons that they need to maintain their skill levels, something they did today to notch up a win. Ends saying that they would start preparing for the ODI series after a couple of days of rest.
  • Earlier in the evening, England were aided my Eoin Morgan's unbeaten 80, that helped them post a decent score on the board. He was assisted by David Malan's 53 and their 93-run stand was instrumental in them getting to 194. But lack of support from the middle order meant that they ended by well short of where they could have got. That made it an easier task for the hosts to set about, which they partially completed. We'll get the presentation to you in a bit.
  • Post that, England managed to keep the runs in check, even after an over from Chris Jordan which went awry, giving a life to Chapman after he overstepped on the delivery he cleaned the southpaw up. Jordan stayed wicketless, as did David Willey, who failed to exert much control with the new ball. The spinners Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson did well to keep the batters quiet, picking up a wicket apiece in the process. However, 18 runs off Dawson's final over just opened the floodgates. After the 175-run mark was breached, the visitors tightened up and ensured at least a win ensues.
  • As has been the story in recent times, the Kiwis got off to a flier, courtesy Colin Munro and Martin Guptill. The two blasted their way to a 78-run opening stand, 77 of them coming in the Powerplay. Even after that, Guptill was going strong from one end and the runs kept flowing in. There was no respite for the tourists once Mark Chapman made his way in. His 64-run association ensured that the Black Caps qualify for the finals.
  • England have won the battle but have lost the war! This is a classic case of a side being unhappy even after winning the game. They needed to restrict the Black Caps up to 174 but that's the task they failed miserably in. Their bowlers didn't help matters then but came back in the end to help them notch up value-less points on the table.
  • 19.6 Curran manages to defend the target! Hurls it full on off, de Grandhomme manages to just smash it to long off for one. NEW ZEALAND QUALIFY DESPITE A 2-RUN LOSS!
  • 4 needed to win from 1 ball, 3 to tie.... Super over anybody?
  • 19.5 Buttler misses! Full and outside off, Mark fails to get bat to that. However, Buttler fumbles and concedes a bye.
  • 19.4 FOUR! The boundary, the essential one in the over! Chapman is doing it here. Full toss on the stumps, Chapman exposes his stumps by moving across yet gets enough bat with his flick through backward square leg for a boundary.
  • 19.3 Full outside off, driven through covers for one. 8 needed off 3.
  • 19.2 Driven towards the mid off region. One run added to the total.
  • 19.1 Full on off, driven down to long off for one.
  • 18.6 Another yorker, dug out back to the bowler. 11 needed off the last over. 183/4
  • 18.5 Another wonderful ball for a free hit. This is a yorker on the stumps, Mark can only manage to dig it back.
  • Free Hit coming up.
  • 18.5 DRAMA! This over just refuses to end. Jordan spears it on the stumps, Chapman walks across and looks to paddle it away but ends up losing the off stick. But hold on, JORDAN HAS OVERSTEPPED YET AGAIN. Chapman is called back to resume his innings.
  • 18.4 Hurled on the stumps, defended from the crease.
  • 18.3 Well bowled! This is speared full just outside off, Chapman is deceived with that and ends up missing it completely. The ball wasn't too far from the off stick. Wouldn't have mattered though.
  • Free Hit continues...
  • 18.3 WIDE! This is hurled full and wide outside off, seeing Mark charge down. Misses his mark and it is a wide.
  • Time for a Free Hit...
  • 18.3 NO BALL FOR HEIGHT! Jordan spears a high full toss outside off, the height on that takes de Grandhomme by surprise. The keeper has a difficult time collecting that and before he does it cleanly and returns the throw to the bowler, a bye is stolen as well.
  • 18.2 FOUR! Good ball but streaky runs for Colin. Jordan spears in a yorker on leg, de Grandhomme gets his bat down in time. The ball goes off the inside edge and races to the fine leg fence for a boundary.
  • 18.1 Full outside off, pushed through covers for one. NEW ZEALAND HAVE QUALIFIED FOR THE FINALS.
  • Chris Jordan comes back.
  • 17.6 Chapman retains strike after pushing it through point. 174/4
  • Colin de Grandhomme is in next. He is a powerful striker and it's just a matter of how long, now.
  • 17.5 GONE! Ross Taylor fails to add his finishing touches tonight. Gets full length delivery around off, but it is a slower one. Rosco looks to go big on the on side but gets it off the outer half towards covers. Morgan runs to his left and takes it just outside the circle. Just for the numerical fanatics, 22 needed for a Kiwi win.
  • 17.4 Length ball slanting away, punched to sweeper cover for one.
  • 17.3 Full toss on the pads, finds fine leg for a single.
  • 17.2 FOUR! Same shot attempted, connected this time. Length ball angling in, Taylor stays back and pulls it through square leg. Beats the man charging to his right in the deep.
  • 17.1 On a length, angling in. Taylor has a swish to go through the on side but ends up missing the ball. It just passes close to the stumps.
  • Tom Curran back for his 2nd over. He has gone for 17 in the one he bowled earlier.
  • 16.6 Once again Taylor comes down the track and pushes it to long on to retain strike. 15 runs off this over, wonder if the wicket even has some significance at this stage. 167/3
  • 16.5 Flatter outside off, punched through covers for one.
  • 16.4 Taylor charges down and pushes it through mid on for a run to get going.
  • Ross Taylor makes his way out next.
  • 16.3 OUT! End of the Guptill show tonight! This is fired quicker on the stumps, Martin gets down on a knee to make it a troika of biggies. Ends up making contact with only thin air as he misses the ball and finds his stumps disturbed. He needn't be overly disappointed as he has brought his side on the brink of a qualification as well as a win. New Zealand are 31 away from a win, 11 more needed to qualify. The lack of celebrations by England show just that.
  • 16.2 SIX! Dropped? Tough to call it so after the effort put in but sadly that's how this one would be recognized. Guptill lofts it over covers, where Billings runs to his left from long off and gets a hand to it as well. He, however, cannot hold on to that and the ball lands over the ropes after lobbing off his hands.
  • 16.1 SIX! BAZOOOKA! My colleague pings me that this is Guptill's 101th six in T20Is. Gets down on a knee and slogs it handsomely over mid-wicket for 6 less than a dozen.
  • 15.6 14th T20I fifty for Martin Guptill. This is in addition to his ton in the previous outing. Flicks this full delivery through mid-wicket to bring up the milestone. 152/2
  • 15.5 Length outside off, cut away through point for one.
  • 15.4 FOUR! Clever, clever cricket from Chapman. He gets down early to play the paddle. As a result, Jordan bowls a cutter at 103.5 kph. Even then, with some adjustment and waiting, Mark carries on with his shot and gets it well over short fine leg for a boundary to raise the 50-run partnership between these two.
  • 15.3 Nudged through mid-wicket for a single. Guppy moves to 49.
  • 15.2 SIX! Guptill is here on the back of a ton and it shows in the way he is batting. Gets a full ball in his zone, he makes room and lofts it over long off for a biggie.
  • 15.1 Fuller on the pads, Chapman misses the flick and the ball rolls towards short fine leg. Jordan asks the question for LBW but the umpire stays unmoved. A leg bye taken, as the ball pitched well outside leg.
  • Chris Jordan back on.
  • 14.6 Just missed! Flighted delivery just outside off, Martin gets down to slog it. Ends up missing the ball completely. His side needs 37 off 30 to qualify. 138/2
  • 14.5 The batsman has driven it through mid on. One run added to the total.
  • 14.4 Flatter on the stumps, wristed through mid-wicket for a couple.
  • 14.3 Aerial again, safe again! Chapman wasn't comfortable against Rashid and doesn't pick the wrong 'un from Malan this time. Gets down the track but ends up slicing it in the air. It lands well short of long off who runs to his right. Brace taken in the interim.
  • 14.2 This is forced through mid on to get to the other end.
  • 14.1 SIX! Welcome to the attack, says Martin with a biggie! Tossed up ball on the stumps, Guptill bangs this over deep mid-wicket for half a dozen.
  • Dawid Malan to have a bowl now. 69 off 6 overs needed for a Kiwi victory, 49 to qualify. Can Malan cap off his good run with the bat with a scalp with the ball?
  • 13.6 Flatter outside off, Mark fails to cut that. Dawson ends with 4-0-27-1. 126/2
  • 13.5 SIX! Ho, ho, ho! Another maximum! Chapman is getting into Dawson in some style. Sees the tossed up ball and gets down the track and swipes it over square leg. 18 runs off this one already.
  • 13.4 This one is pushed through covers for one.
  • 13.3 FOUR! Quandary for Dawson! This is floated around off, Guptill trashes it back aerially. He isn't in control of that but still hits it powerfully. Liam is in two minds whether to catch that or get out of the firing line. Ends up being undecided but the ball misses him and goes to the boundary down the ground.
  • 13.2 This one is swept away through backward square leg for a single.
  • 13.1 SIX! BOOM! First boundary off Dawson's bowling tonight and what a shot that is! Chapman gets down the track and blasts it over deep mid-wicket for a maximum.
  • 12.6 Good work, Willey! Chapman gets down and sweeps it through backward square leg. David runs to his right from fine leg, dives and returns the throw, all in one motion. Just one could be taken. 108/2
  • 12.5 Outside off, patted towards point for one.
  • 12.4 In the air but doesn't carry AGAIN! Flighted delivery outside off, it is the googly. Chapman comes down the track and has to reach out to make contact with the ball. Does so and gets it aerially towards sweeper cover but the ball lands short of the man there. A run results.
  • 12.3 Tossed up on the stumps, blocked off the front foot.
  • 12.2 Horrible mix up, doesn't prove fatal though. Guptill pushes this one towards backward point and is ball-watching even as Chapman rushes down for a quick run. Martin responds. However, the throw to the bowler's end is very wide and that allows the opener to get in. David Willey the man with the throw.
  • 12.1 Floated outside off, Chapman goes inside out over covers and finds sweeper in the deep. Just one taken.
  • 11.6 Flatter on middle and leg, nudged through square leg for one. 3-0-9-1 reads Dawson's figures at this stage. Excellent stuff. 92 from 42 more needed for the hosts. 103/2
  • 11.5 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • 11.4 Chapman dances down the track and defends this down.
  • 11.3 Tossed up around middle, milked to long on for a single.
  • 11.2 Floated outside off, driven through mid off for one.
  • Mark Chapman is next in, replacing his skipper.
  • 11.1 OUT! Knocked him! Kane Williamson departs in a bid to look for some quick runs. He charges down the track a tad early and seeing this Liam just lands it on the stumps. Doesn't fire it though. Kane looks to go through with the wild swipe and fails to get bat to that. Ends up getting the stumps disturbed. His side is still 75 runs away from qualifying for the finals.
  • 10.6 Almost falls! The slip was just brought in and that made Guptill look to the on side for runs. Gets down on a knee to slog it away but just gets it over slip for a brace. 100 up for the Kiwis, they are just 95 runs away from the destination now. 100/1

  • 6.4 Pushed down to long on for a single.
  • Kane Williamson is the new man in. Just to remind, he's playing his 50th T20I today.
  • 6.3 OUT! Top edge... taken! Colin Munro's assault comes to an end! Rashid strikes in his very first over! He slips in the wrong 'un, Munro gets down to play another slog sweep. Gets a top edge which goes high up in the air towards deep backward square leg where David Willey settles under it to take a good catch. Some respite for England as they get rid of Munro but to be honest, he has already done the damage. Can England get a few more to come back into this game?
  • 6.2 Floated delivery outside off, driven through cover for a single.

  • 5.1 FOUR! Guptill has had enough of watching! Sees the short ball, makes some room and slashes hard at it. Gets it off the edge over backward point for a boundary.
  • 4.6 SIX! Outstanding stuff from Colin Munro! Back-to-back fifties for him and he has continued from where he left off in the last game! 7th in the T20Is in just 18 balls, woaah! Good length delivery on the pads, it's the cutter, Colin clears the front leg and bludgeons it over wide long on. Willey could just see it sail over the fence. He has conceded 33 in 3 overs. NZ are 66 after 5 overs. How many can they get before the Powerplay ends? 66/0
  • 4.5 FOUR! Poor delivery! Full toss, wide outside off, Munro in this mood won't let it go waste. He reaches out and smashes it through point for a boundary.
