  • The Indian batting looked clueless and their weakness against seam and swing came back to haunt them big time. Once the top order blew away, the middle order followed suit and in no time they found themselves reeling at 29 for 7. But then, Dhoni along with the tail managed to take the score past 100 with the former scoring a magnificent half century. He was fighting a lone battle out there and in the end perished, in search of some quick runs. The wicket is good for seam bowling but the question is, do India have enough on the board? The Sri Lankan batsmen will surely fancy themselves as they won't get a better chance than this to end their 12-match losing streak. Join us for the run chase in a short while...
  • A brilliant bowling performance by Sri Lanka has seen the Indian batting line-up being bundled out for a paltry total. It has all gone their away, right from winning the toss to executing the plans that they had. They started off really well with the new ball as Angelo Mathews and Suranga Lakmal made it talk. But it was the latter who was sensational and was rewarded for his efforts. He bowled his heart out, bowling 10 overs on the trot and ended with figures - 10-4-13-4, which also happens to be his career-best figures in this format. He was well-supported by the rest as every bowler shared the spoils.
  • 38.2 OUT! That is it! Sri Lanka finally get the last wicket but a brilliant, brilliant innings from Dhoni to say the least. Perera looks a relieved man. He bowls it full and outside off. Dhoni again tries to go big but this time the bat turns in his hands and he only manages to hit it up in the air off the outer half towards sweeper cover where Gunathilaka takes a safe catch. So, INDIA HAVE BEEN BOWLED OUT FOR 112!
  • 38.1 FOUR! Too easy for Dhoni! Short and wide outside off by Perera who has just come into the attack. Dhoni flays it through point to earn another boundary.
  • 37.6 Chahal survives! Pradeep lands it on a length outside off, Yuzvendra opts not to play at it. The crowd loves it. Meanwhile, Perera brings himself back into the attack. 108/9
  • 37.5 A yorker but the line is wrong, it is outside off. Chahal tries to jam it out but gets beaten. Pradeep now has one ball left in this over to get his man.
  • 37.4 Good length outside off, Chahal lets it be. 2 balls to be played now.
  • 37.3 Bangs in a short one to surprise the batsman. Yuzvendra watches it early and ducks under it.
  • 37.2 Another ball, played well by the leg spinner. Pradeep bangs it short on middle. Chahal camps back and defends it stoutly.
  • 37.1 Length on off, Chahal defends it solidly. 1 ball negotiated 5 to go.
  • 36.6 FOUR! BRUTE! Save your hands, Pathirana! Dhoni again shimmies down the track and belts it with a lot of power, past the bowler for a boundary down the ground. 108/9
  • 36.5 Drags his length back. Dhoni chops it to the keeper.
  • 36.4 Tosses it up on middle, MS advances down the track and hits it straight down towards long on but does not take a run.
  • 36.3 SIX! BANG! Massive! 100 up for India with that biggie. Dhoni comes down the track, gets to the pitch of the ball and mauls it over mid-wicket for a maximum. That would have been a maximum in any ground in the world.
  • 36.2 The batsman has driven it straight down the ground.
  • 36.1 On the bounce to the fielder at long on! Dhoni comes down the track, seeing that Pathirana shortens his length on middle. Dhoni flat bats it, on the bounce to long on.
  • 35.6 He gets the single on the last ball! Dhoni flicks it with the angle to square leg to keep strike. 11 runs from the over. 98/9
  • 35.5 FOUR! Fifty for Dhoni, it is his 67th in ODIs and 19th against Sri Lanka. How many times have we seen him doing this with the tail? What an absolute legend this guy is. He has fought a lone battle out there today. Coming to the ball now, Pradeep bowls a full toss, a gift on off. Dhoni times his drive through covers to fetch himself a boundary. The India dressing room lauds the effort, they know the value of this knock.
  • 35.4 Flicks it towards fine leg and again does not want the single.
  • 35.3 Good length around off, Dhoni guides it towards third man and opts not to take the single.
  • 35.2 Worked with the angle to mid-wicket.
  • 35.1 SIX! Stand and deliver! That is what he has to do now. Pradeep bowls it in his arc, on a length around off. Dhoni lofts it over the long off fence for a maximum. The first of the game. He is four away from a superb half century.
  • Nuwan Pradeep is back into the attack.
  • 34.6 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat. 87/9
  • 34.5 Tosses it up on off, Chahal presses forward and defends it.
  • 34.4 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • Yuzvendra Chahal is the last man in. He has 4 balls to survive in this over.
  • 34.3 OUT! BOWLED 'EM! What was Bumrah trying to do there? Completely needless and Dhoni at the other end is disgusted. Pathirana bowls it a bit slower and tosses it up on middle. Bumrah is tempted and tries heave seeing the flight. He misses the ball completely and it goes on to hit the middle stump. He was defending the ball well, not sure what went through his mind at that moment. Nine down now, can India score another 13 to reach 100?
  • 34.2 Floats it on middle, Bumrah tries to defend but it goes off the inner half towards short fine leg.
  • 34.1 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 33.6 No run conceded and Dhoni will not be on strike in the next over. Akila gives it air and bowls it very full on off. Dhoni drives it towards mid on and thinks about the run but he has hit it too firmly and it goes quickly to the fielder. He sends Bumrah back. 87/8
  • 33.5 Works it with the spin to mid-wicket.
  • 33.4 Floats it on off, Dhoni defends it off the front foot.
  • 33.3 The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball.
  • 33.2 The batsman has played it to the point region.
  • 33.1 Fuller in length on off, driven to mid off.
  • 32.6 NOT OUT! The impact is outside the line! Brilliant from Dhoni, he had a clear view from the non-striker's end and he was spot on. Pathirana bowls it flatter on off, gets it to turn away. Bumrah goes back and tries to defend but misses and is struck on the pads. The Lankan players appeal and the umpire raises his finer. Dhoni at the non-striker's end straightaway signals for the review and the umpire goes upstairs. Replays roll in and guess what the impact is outside off. The decision has to be overturned and Bumrah survives. Excellent use of the DRS by Dhoni. 87/8
  • Bumrah has been adjudged LBW but Dhoni immediately signals for the review from the other end. Impact is the issue.
  • 32.5 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
  • A short leg in place for Bumrah and also the field has been brought in.
  • 32.4 Drags his length back on off, MS pushes it towards cover for a run.
  • 32.3 Shorter in length around off, cut to point.
  • 32.2 Comes down the track and tries to go big but the ball goes off the inner half towards deep square leg. Dhoni again refuses the run.
  • 32.1 Fires it on middle, Dhoni defends it back towards the bowler.
  • 31.6 Floats it up on off, Dhoni comes down the track and drives it hard past the bowler. Perera runs to his right from mid off, dives to stop the ball. He makes a half-stop. The batsmen first think of taking a run but after seeing Perera parry the ball they go for it. Thisara is quick to recover as he picks the ball up and hits bull's eye at the striker's end but Bumrah makes it in. 86/8
  • 31.5 Driven through mid off by the batsman.
  • 31.4 Fuller in length on off, driven to mid off.

  • 30.5 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 30.4 Flatter one around off, pushed back towards the bowler.
  • 30.3 FOUR! Smashed! Pathirana drops it short outside off, Dhoni camps back and thwacks it through covers for a boundary.

  • 28.4 Back of a length outside off, punched towards sweeper cover. Dhoni isn't taking obviously.
  • 28.3 The batsman chooses to leave the ball outside his off stump.
  • 28.2 Outside off, left alone.

  • Pradeep is back on!
  • 27.6 Yes, he does! Jasprit lunges forward and blocks it down safely. 80/8
  • 27.5 Takes the single this time! Around middle and leg, worked away towards square leg for a single. Can Bumrah survive?
  • 27.4 On middle and leg, flicked towards mid-wicket for nothing.
  • 27.3 Goes back and works it away towards the leg side.
  • 27.2 FOUR! Boom! This has to come as Dhoni won't be taking those singles. Akila drops it on a length around middle, Dhoni dances down the track and whips it between square leg and mid-wicket for a boundary.
  • 27.1 Gets forward and across and clips it towards the man at short fine leg.
  • Drinks! Sri Lanka are right on top. The Dhoni-Kuldeep partnership may have frustrated them but they have finally got the latter out. MS would now look to score quickly and also keep much of the strike. Sri Lanka on the other hand would look to clean the tail up as quickly as possible.
  • 26.6 A loud shout for an LBW! Not given! Fuller in length and angling in from outside off, Dhoni tries to work it away on the leg side but seems to have gotten an inside edge. The ball rolls towards third man and the batsmen is busy to cross. Perera appeals long and hard but the umpire turns it down. He then signals it as a leg bye too. Interesting! 75/8
  • 26.5 Lunges forward and pushes it into the cover region.
  • 26.4 Close! Length delivery, close to the off stump line. Dhoni tries to hit it through covers but sans any foot movement. Gets an inside edge which just rolls over the stumps. MS is living dangerously here.
  • 26.3 Back of a length delivery on middle, Dhoni comes down the track and hits it straight to mid off.
  • 26.2 Shortish on middle, pulled straight towards deep square leg.
  • 26.1 FOUR! Dhoni is having luck on his side! A full toss and it's on the stumps, Dhoni has a full swing at it but gets an inside edge which evades the leg stump and races down to the fine leg fence for a streaky boundary.
  • 25.6 Bowls a leg spin around middle, Bumrah hangs back and keeps this one out. Just a run and the wicket from the over. 70/8
  • 25.5 Goes back and blocks it out on the ground.
  • 25.4 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • Jasprit Bumrah is the new man in.
  • 25.3 OUT! Superb glovework from Dickwella! Akila breaks the 41-run stand! Perera is expensive from the other end but the decision to bring in spin from this end has done the trick for Lanka. Dananjaya tosses it up around off, Kuldeep Yadav presses forward to defend but the ball dips and then turns away to beat the outside edge. Dickwella collects the ball and dislodges the bails in a flash. They take it upstairs and the TV umpire after having a look at it from various angles feels the back foot was firmly on the line and there was nothing inside the crease. Fair call! The hosts slip further.
  • Goodness me! Dickwella takes the bails off quickly and is confident that Kuldeep hasn't dragged his feet behind. A stumping appeal is taken upstairs...
  • 25.2 Loops it up outside off, the southpaw lunges forward in defense.
  • 25.1 Floats it up around middle, wristed through mid-wicket for a single.
  • Spin time. Akila Dananjaya is brought into the attack. The move is maybe because the seamers have gone for runs in the last few overs.
  • 24.6 Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat. 69/7
  • 24.5 FOUR! Second of the over! On the leg stump, too easy for Kuldeep. He uses the pace and flicks it fine on the leg side to fetch himself a boundary.
  • 24.4 Drifts on the pads, Yadav fails to flick as he is struck on the pads.
  • 24.3 Flicks it with the angle through square leg for a run.
  • 24.2 The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
  • 24.1 FOUR! Excellent start to the over! Short and wide by Perera. This time, Dhoni makes full use of the width and cuts it through point, uppishly but in the gap for a boundary.
  • 23.6 FOUR! These two are dealing in boundaries. The partnership is now worth 31. Full and outside off by Pradeep. Kuldeep drives it through covers to fetch himself a boundary. 10 runs of the over. 60/7
  • 23.5 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 23.4 Plays it with the angle towards wide mid on for a run.
  • 23.3 The batsman dances down the track and does well to block the ball.
  • 23.2 FOUR! They need many more! Pradeep bangs it in short, assuming Dhoni would step down the track. He does not, he stays in his crease and pulls it but not off the middle, down towards fine leg. The fielder there makes good ground, puts in a dive but all in vain as he touches the boundary as he stops it. With that boundary, India also pass their lowest ever total in ODIs.
  • 23.1 That edge of Kuldeep's bat is giving him some handy runs. Pradeep, again bowls it on a length around off. Yadav tries to defend but gets an outside edge down to third man for a run.
  • 22.6 Just ahead of a length on off, Dhoni tries to pushes it through the off side but gets an inside edge onto his pads. He wants a single but there ain't one. 50/7
  • 22.5 Length ball around off, yadav guides it down to third man for a run. 50 up for India.
  • 22.4 The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
  • 22.3 Advances down the track and pulls the short ball down to fine leg. Pradeep there first runs to his left and then adjusts, takes a step to his right and stops the ball. A single taken.
  • 22.2 Short and wide outside off, Dhoni tries to cash in on the width but fails to connect.
  • 22.1 FOUR! Inside edge and through! The crowd finally has something to cheer about. A flurry of boundaries in the last two overs. MS comes down the track and tries to go big but gets an inside edge past the stumps and down to the fine leg fence.
  • 21.6 Bouncer! The batsman does well to evade it. 9 runs from the over! 44/7
  • 21.5 FOUR! Edgy but Kuldeep will take it. Pradeep comes around the wicket and lands it on a length around off, gets it to straighten. Yadav tries to defend but gets an outside edge through the vacant second slip area for a boundary. This will be frustrating for Sri Lanka.
  • 21.4 Pushed to the cover region by the batsman.
  • 21.3 FOUR! That was very nicely played! Pradeep bowls it on middle, Kuldeep uses his wrists very well and flicks it through mid-wicket for a boundary. India need many more.
  • 21.2 Flicks it through mid-wicket for a run. A funny moment there as Gunaratne picks the ball up and fires a throw which hits the leg of the umpire. A poor throw by the fielder. Nothing to worry as he is fine though.
  • 21.1 The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball.
  • 20.6 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground. 35/7
  • 20.5 Length around off, Dhoni tires to defend but gets an inside edge onto his pads. The ball rolls towards the off side and the batsmen take a quick run.
  • 20.4 The batsman chooses to leave the ball outside his off stump.
  • 20.3 FOUR! BRILLIANT! He finally comes down the track and connects one. He gets a length ball on off, Dhoni shimmies down the track and hits it hard through mid off for a boundary.
  • 20.2 Almost drags it on! Perera lands it on a length around off, Yadav tries to defend it away from his body but gets an inside edge, past the stumps and down to fine leg for a run.
  • 20.1 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • The skipper, Thisara Perera brings himself into the attack, replacing Lakmal.
  • 19.6 The batsman comes down the track, seeing that Pradeep bangs it in short. Dhoni tries to pull but gets beaten. 29/7
  • 19.5 Length around off, Dhoni tries to defend but the ball takes the inside edge and hits him on the pads.
  • 19.4 The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
  • 19.3 NOT OUT! Again, Lanka don't lose a review! Pradeep bowls it on length around middle, Dhoni comes down the track and tries to flick but misses. The ball hits him on the pads and the players appeal. In the meantime, the slip fielder scores a direct hit at the striker's end too. However, Perera takes the DRS! First they check for the LBW. Replays roll in and it shows there is no inside edge. Also, it is umpire's call on Hawk Eye. The on-field decision stays. They now check for the run out and Dhoni has plonked his bat in before the ball hits the stumps. MS lives to fight another day.
  • Another review taken against Dhoni for LBW! He has way down the pitch so the height can be an issue.
  • 19.2 The batsman failed to make contact and was hit low on the pads.
  • 19.1 Advances down the track and defends it.
  • 18.6 He gets his fifer? No... the umpire does not agree with the appeal! Lakmal bowls another inswinger, fuller in length on middle. Kuldeep tries to flick but misses and gets hit on the pads. Suranga appeals but the umpire shakes his head. Replays later on show it would have missed the leg stump. Nevertheless, end of an excellent spell by Lakmal. He finishes with his career-best figures of 10-4-13-4. JUST BRILLIANT! He gets a standing ovation from the dressing room as he goes to his fielding position. 29/7
  • 18.5 Back of a length on off, Lakmal guides it towards point for no run.
  • 18.4 The batsman defends it from within the crease.
  • 18.3 Good length from around the wicket, Yadav tries to defend but gets an outside edge but along the ground to third slip. He must have played that with soft hands.
  • 18.2 Good length outside off, Yadav lets it be.
  • 18.1 CLOSE! A brave leave in the end! Lakmal lands it on a length around off, gets it to shape in a touch. Kuldeep leaves it, maybe trusting the bounce and the ball just about kisses the off pole. He will be eager to get his fifth in his last over.
  • 17.6 Length on off, Dhoni defends it solidly. 29/7
  • 17.5 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 17.4 Shimmies down the track and tries to flick but misses to get hit on the pads.
  • 17.3 Again MS comes down the track as he done throughout his innings to negotiate the swing. He defends the length ball towards mid off.
  • 17.2 Length ball outside off, MS lets it be.
  • 17.1 Back of a length on off, Dhoni defends it off the back foot.
  • 16.6 Outside off, left alone. Another sensational over from Lakmal. 29/7
  • 16.5 Stands tall and blocks it out off the back foot.
  • Kuldeep Yadav is the next man in.
  • 16.4 OUT! Edged and taken! Lakmal has his hands aloft and takes off for a celebratory run. Mind you, this is his 9th over in a row and has picked up a 4-fer already. Beautiful delivery! Drops it on a length just around off, making Bhuvneshwar play at it. He does so but there is a bit of away movement which takes the outside edge and Dickwella behind the stumps accepts a regulation catch.
  • 16.3 A bit fuller and angling in, Dhoni comes down the track and nearly falls over. Somehow manages to get his bat down as the ball goes off the inside edge through square leg for a single.
  • 16.2 Hits the back of a length again, comes back in after pitching. Dhoni looks to clip it away but fails and is hit on the pads again.
  • 16.1 An appeal straightaway! Lakmal is still on a roll here. This is his 9th over on the trot and is still making the ball do the talking. Dhoni steps out to this back of a length to counter the movement off the seam, misses and wears it on the pads.
  • 15.6 The batsman chooses to leave the ball outside his off stump. 28/6
  • 15.5 The batsman shoulders arms to let that one through.
  • 15.4 NOT OUT! It is not three in three for the Lankans. They don't lose a review though as it remains umpires call. Pradeep bowls it on a length around off, gets it to shape back in sharply. Kumar tries to keep it out off the back foot but gets beaten to get hit on the pads. The Lankans make a loud appeal but the umpire shakes his head. Pradeep can't believe it as he though he has got his man. He wants his captain to review it and he does so. Replays show, the bat was very close to the pad as he tried to defend but the third umpire is convinced it is pad first. Haw Eye shows it is clipping the top of leg and it is umpire's call. Kumar survives! Dhoni at the non-striker's end breathes a sigh of relief.
  • Review time! Sri Lanka have taken a review for an LBW against Kumar. They have gotten two right, can they get the third one too? It does look close.
  • 15.3 EDGED! Kumar tires to defend the length ball around off, which is swinging away but the ball takes the outside edge and goes along the ground to the third slip fielder.
  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar walks out at no. 8. He had a decent outing with the bat last time these two sides met and India would hope for that to happen again.
  • 15.2 OUT! They are falling like a pack of cards here! Pandya's short stay comes to an end. He looked confident but is undone by a beautiful outswinger. Pradeep lands it on a length around off, gets it to shape away. Pandya first thinks of playing at it but then tries to take his bat away. He is late to do so and the ball takes the bottom edge and goes into the hands of first slip who takes it easily and then throws it up in the air in joy. Another huge wicket for the Lankans. Hardik has had an excellent year and the Lankan lions will be delighted to see the back of Hardik as he could take the game away. The visitors are into the tail now and they would want to clean it up early.
  • 15.1 Shimmies down the track and works it towards fine leg for a run.
  • Dhoni pulls out very, very late. Pradeep had delivered the delivery and then Dhoni backs away. He signals at the sightscreen as there might be someone walking behind it.
  • 14.6 EXCELLENT EFFORT! Gunathilaka has been brilliant at point today and once again he has made an outstanding stop. Shorter in length around off, Pandya cuts it towards point where the fielder dives to his right and makes a half-stop. The ball rolls towards the cover region and the batsmen take two. This is the kind of effort needed by the fielders to back up this brilliant bowling effort. 27/5
  • 14.5 Was there an edge? There was surely a noise. Lakmal lands it on a length around off, gets it to shape away. Pandya first tires to play at it but then pulls his bat out of the way. There is a noise as it passes the bat. The Lankans appeal but the umpire shakes his head. Sri Lanka think about reviewing it but then opt against it. Replays show there was big gap between bat and ball.
  • 14.4 FOUR! Exquisite! Fuller in length around off, a half volley. Pandya presses forward and drives it through covers for a boundary.
  • 14.3 Length around off, shapes away. Pandya is not interested to play at it.
  • 14.2 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 14.1 Sprays it on the pads, Dhoni tries to flick but the ball hits him on the pads and goes towards square leg for a leg bye.
  • 13.6 FOUR! Streaky but Pandya won't mind. He is off the mark. Pradeep lands it around off on a fullish length. Pandey tries to drive but gets an outside edge away from the second slip fielder and down towards the third man boundary. This is only the second boundary of the innings. 20/5
  • 13.5 Wide enough for the batsman to play at it.
  • 13.4 Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
  • 13.3 Good length outside off, Pandya first thinks of playing at it but then tries to leave it. The ball comes to him quickly and takes the bottom edge and goes along the ground to the slip cordon.
  • Hardik Pandya walks out to the middle. He has built a reputation to counter-attack. Let's see what can he do today.
  • 13.2 OUT! CHOPS IT ON! Iyer never looked comfortable and was playing too far from his body and that has brought his downfall. Pradeep lands it on a length outside off, Shreyas is in two minds whether to play at it or leave it. He eventually tries to dab it down to third man but he gets an inside edge and the ball goes on to shatter the off pole. India have half their side back and the score is not even 20. Brilliant display of fast bowling by the Lankans and they now have India staring down the barrel.
  • 13.1 The batsman has driven that ball straight back.
  • 12.6 Walks down the track and tries to flick but misses to get hit on the pads. There is a muted appeal by the Lankas but the umpire stays put. 16/4
  • Drinks! Also, MS Dhoni walks out to the middle. He has saved India on many occasions and has the task cut out even today.
  • 12.5 OUT! Another one bites the dust! Lakmal gets his third and Pandey, this time like the other three walks back for a single digit score. Another brilliant delivery by Lakmal. He lands it around off, gets it to shape back in and then straighten a touch. Pandey is squared up as he tries to flick. The ball takes the edge and goes to first slip where Mathews pouches it safely. Also this is good captaincy by Perera as this is an extended spell given to Lakmal and he has delivered. India are in big, big trouble now.
  • 12.4 The batsman shoulders arms to let that one through.
  • 12.3 Iyer is not looking comfortable out there but is still finding a way to survive! Lakmal bowls it just short of a length on off, bounces a touch extra. Iyer tries to push it through the off side, but gets an inside edge, between his legs and towards square leg for a run.
  • 12.2 Back of a length on off, Iyer defends it solidly.
  • 12.1 Flicks it with the angle down towards fine leg for a run.
  • 11.6 Pradeep too is creating problems here! He lands it around middle, gets it to shape away. Iyer tries to flick it through the leg side but gets a leading edge towards point. Gunathilaka there, who has been exceptional in the field until now, dives to his left and makes a good stop. 14/3
  • 11.5 The batsman defends it from within the crease.
  • 11.4 Back of a length on off, Iyer defends it off the back foot.
  • 11.3 Another appeal! Nuwan lands it on a length around off, gets it to come back after pitching, sharply. Iyer tries to defend it off the back foot but gets beaten and is struck on the pads. The players appeal and the umpire shakes his head. Replays later show the ball would have clipped the top of leg stump and the on-field call would have stayed.
  • 11.2 Just ahead of a length around off, Iyer drives it on the up, through cover-point for a couple.
  • 11.1 Starts off with a length ball outside off, Iyer does not play at it,
  • Nuwan Pradeep is into the attack. He is coming back after an injury and would want to build on the good work now.
  • 10.6 Shorter in length around off, Pandey defends it down onto the ground. 12/3
  • 10.5 Another one outside off, Pandey need not play at it.

  • 8.5 OUT! The third one down for India! Dinesh Karthik's struggle finally comes to an end and it is Lakmal, who is breathing fire at the moment, gets his second. He once again sets him up brilliantly. He bowls a few outswingers in this over and then gets this one to nip back in. Lands it on a length around off, gets it shape back in after pitching. Karthik plants his front foot across and tries to drive it down through mid on but misses to get hit on the pads. The Lankan players make another big appeal and this time the umpire agrees and raises his finger. Karthik, walks up to his partner and asks him whether to review it. Iyer, first shakes his head but then stops Karthik as he walks past him. They have a word and Karthik signals for the 'T', but sorry Dinesh time is up. He has to walk back and India are in disarray now. Replays show that the ball was clipping the leg stump and hence the on-field call would have stayed.
  • 8.4 Comes down the pitch to a length ball on off, and guides it towards point. Karthik wants a run but is sent back by his partner, as Gunathilaka dives to his left and makes an excellent stop. The energy of the Lankans is right on top and that fielding effort is an example of that.

He bowls it fuller around off, but gets it to shape in a long way and that too late. Karthik tries to flick but misses and is struck on the pads. The players appeal and they make a loud one but the umpire shakes his head again. Time for a third review? No, this time they don't as the ball looked like it will be sliding down leg. And yes, Hawk Eye confirms that the ball will be missing leg.

  • Dinesh Karthik walks out at no. 4. He was impressive against New Zealand recently. Can he carry forward his form?
  • 4.1 OUT! Another brilliant review, this time it is Dickwella who has to be given the credit. Lakmal was teasing the edge of Sharma's bat a number of times and this time he induces one. A beautiful delivery by Lakmal, he again lands it on a length around off, gets it to shape away ever so slightly. There is a noise as the ball goes past the bat as Rohit tries to defend. Dickwella takes it and makes a huge appeal but the umpire shakes his head. Niroshan is really confident and wants to take it upstairs. Perera once again signals the 'T'. Time for the replays. On the first one there is a slight gap between the bat and the ball but there is a spike on Snicko and the on-field call has to be overturned. A huge wicket for Sri Lanka. The hitman, the stand-in captain is walking back cheaply. Not a good first outing as skipper for him. India have been rocked early.
  • Has Rohit edged it? Dickwella feels so, and he wants it to be reviewed after the umpire gives it not out.
  • 3.6 Shimmies down the track and defends the length ball on off, back towards the bowler. Another maiden, this is excellent bowling by Lanka. 2/1

The Lankan players appeal, Mathews is pleading to the umpire as he feels Dhawan is a goner but the umpire shakes his head. Angelo convinces his captain to take the review and Perera does so. Replays roll in. There is no inside edge on that one. Also Hawk Eye shows three reds. Dhawan has to walk back on a duck, his first after 13 innings. The Sri Lankans are ecstatic as they have got the dangerous Shikhar. End of a wicket maiden from Mathews. 0/1

  • The Indians, too are without their regular skipper Virat Kohli and the captaincy reins have been given to Rohit Sharma. A lot will be expected from him as to how he leads the side in the international arena. Also, it would be interesting to see if the rookies, Iyer or Kaul would get a look into the playing XI. It's the 156th ODI between these two Asian Giants. No other teams have faced each other so often. So apart from anything else, this should tell you how much they love facing each other. Which skipper will open his account in limited overs cricket today? Stay tuned as the all-important toss is coming your way.
  • Hello and a warm welcome for the first ODI between India and Sri Lanka at the picturesque stadium, Dharamsala. After battling out on the final day of the last Test, the confidence in the Lankan camp will be high as they head into this format. Although, they are staring down the barrel as they are on a 12-match losing streak, they would want it to be changed soon under their new skipper Thisara Perera.
  • That is it from us for today! The Lankans have shocked the world today by but as Mathews said they cannot afford to relax. • If not full, half the match was over for the hosts in the first innings after their dismal show with the bat. They didn't have enough on the board and it was always going to be tough for the pacers. Bumrah and Kumar did strike early but once the opposition started to counter-attack, they fell flat. Pandya was very expensive while a wicket off a no ball and sloppiness on the field didn't help their cause either. They need to rectify the mistakes they committed today if they are to level the series in the next one. Meanwhile, Angelo Mathews is alongside Manjrekar for an interview...

  • 5.5 FOUR! To add salt to the wound, the ball takes the inside edge and goes down to fine leg for a boundary. Bumrah bowls a perfect yorker on middle, Tharanga tries to jam it out but instead gets an inside edge through fine leg. Sri Lanka wouldn't mind this at all.
  • 5.5 CAUGHT OFF A NO BALL! Bumrah has overstepped! That's the last thing you want want when you are defending a low total. He comes running in and lands it around off, gets it to shape away. Bumrah serves a full ball outside off, Gunathilaka backs away and tries to go big but the ball takes the outside edge to the Dhoni who takes it easily. A needless shot by Gunathilaka to be honest. Nevertheless, the Indians are ecstatic. SL need 106 more to win.
  • 3.3 The batsman has driven it through mid off.
  • 3.2 The dot balls are frustrating him! Bumrah bowls it fuller on off, swinging away. Danushka tries to drive it over mid off but gets beaten.
