  • Kumar was the standout bowler as he along with Bumrah ran through the top order. They were well supported by the rest. Everybody except for Kedar Jadhav who was very economical chipped in with wickets. The surface is a little tricky but as Kohli said at the toss it might ease out in the second half under lights. The tourists will have to bowl really well if they are to defend this total. The Indian batting line-up on the other hand will fancy themselves to chase this down and level the series. Join us in a while for the chase.
  • Brilliant bowling performance by India! They will be happier of the two sides heading into the break. New Zealand after winning the toss and electing to bat got off to a poor start as they lost their top three for not much. The Taylor-Latham partnership also could not provide stability as the former departed cheaply. Nicholls along with Tom Latham did steady the ship for them with a 60-run stand but a flurry of wickets in the end pulled back the Kiwis. A cameo first from de Grandhomme and later from Southee has given their bowlers something to bowl at.
  • 49.6 Fullish ball on middle, Southee plays it towards wide long on for a brace. Nine of the over. NEW ZEALAND FINISH ON 230 FOR 9!
  • 49.6 WIDE! Fires it down the leg side and the umpire signals a wide.
  • 49.5 Very full on middle, Tim jams it out towards long on. They take one and set off for a second. Pandya there gets to the ball quickly and fires a throw at the striker's end but the batsman has made his crease. It might have been a different story had he thrown it at the non-striker's end as Boult was struggling.
  • 49.4 Again a yorker, Boult this time does well to dig it out for a run.
  • 49.3 A yorker, Southee digs it out besides the pitch. There was a collision between Boult and Kumar but they still manage to complete a run.
  • 49.2 Punched off the back foot by the batsman. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 49.1 Fuller in length outside off, Tim tries to go big but gets an inside edge down to fine leg for a run.
  • 48.6 NOT OUT! India lose their review. That never looked out. Bumrah comes running in and fires it on leg stump. Southee misses the flick and the ball hits him on the pads. The ball rolls towards fine leg and the batsmen take a leg bye. Kohli waits to see whether the umpire signals a leg bye and he does so. Kohli reviews immediately. Replays show that the ball is missing leg stump. Southee survives. 221/9
  • India has decided to take a review for an LBW against Southee. Looks like it is missing leg.
  • Trent Boult is the last man in.
  • 48.5 OUT! Another one bites the dust! Bumrah bowls it full outside off, Santner tries to go over long off but does not quite get the elevation and hits it straight down the throat of Kohli who positions himself under it and takes it. A handy knock by Santner comes to an end.

  • 47.3 Slower ball on off, Southee comes down the track and tries to go big but gets an inside edge down to fine leg for a run.
  • 47.2 A yorker on middle, Southee jams it out to long on for a run.
  • 47.1 Full and wide outside off, Santner tries to drive but gets beaten. That was marginally inside the tram line.
  • 46.6 A yorker on middle, Santner drives it down to long off to keep strike. 203/8

  • Bhuvneshwar Kumar is back into the attack.

  • Tim Southee walks out to the middle.
  • 43.2 OUT! That was plumb! Two in two for Chahal! He is now on a hat-trick! Again lovely bowling from the leg spinner. He bowls the slider on middle, which goes on with the arm. Milne prods forward in defense but he plays for the spin and there ain't any. He misses and the ball strikes his front pad. The Indians appeal and the umpire raises his finger. Milne, after a long chat with his partner decides to review. Replays show three reds and New Zealand lose the review. 8 down now, can India restrict them under 200?
  • Given LBW! Milne waits for a while and then reviews it. It looks plumb though.
  • Adam Milne is the next batsman.
  • 43.1 OUT! The dangerman, de Grandhomme is heading back to the dressing room! Brilliant bowling by Chahal! He gives it a nice loop outside off, turning away. The hosts will be eager to bounce back after a shock defeat in the first game. Virat Kohli would hope that every one stands up and delivers the goods. It will be interesting to see if they make any changes to their playing eleven which has been so successful in the recent past.
  • That brings us to the close of the 2nd ODI. The Men in Blue showed good character and temperament to keep the series alive. On the other hand, New Zealand were not good enough today. They will know that they have the potential to surprise oppositions in the sub-continent and will be eager to learn from their mistakes. Join us for the decider on 29th October in Kanpur at 1330 local time (0800 GMT) to catch all the action. Till then, adios and take care!

In the end, it was a below par score which the Men in Blue got past with consummate ease.
