  • It was Trent Boult leading the way for the Kiwis. He was lethal with the new ball as well with the old one in the slog overs, finishing with figures of 10-1-35-4, his third career-best in ODIs. His partner, Tim Southee picked up 3 wickets but went for many. Mitchell Santner was effective and extracted some spin from the surface, drying up the run flow in the middle overs. The visitors will still feel that it is 20-30 odd more on this deck where the ball is stopping at times and India have two top quality wrist spinners in their ranks. Will the Kiwis chase this down to prove their mettle? Let's find out shortly.
  • India have done well to reach a good score on this two-paced surface. They didn't get the best of starts as they lost both the openers not for much. It was Virat Kohli who stood stall and played street smart cricket. He was dropped on 29 by Santner and made the most of the opportunity. Kedar Jadhav and Dinesh Karthik played decent knocks to support Kohli. The Indian skipper then shifted gears when it was needed and scored a brilliant century before departing in the last over. The breezy knock from Kumar at the fag end of the innings gave momentum to the Men in Blue.
  • 49.6 OUT! Well-directed bouncer climbing on Kumar. It gets big on him as he goes for the pull. Henry Nicolls at deep mid-wicket moves to his left and grabs a well-judged catch. INDIA FINISH ON 280/8.
  • 49.5 SIX! Right out of the screws! Shortish delivery on middle and leg, Kumar pulls it with aplomb over deep mid-wicket for a maximum.
  • 49.4 FOUR! No matter how they come, India will be happy that they are coming. Short delivery, Kumar goes for a pull but top edges it over backward square leg for a boundary.
  • 49.3 Slower short ball outside off, Kumar goes for a slog across the line but misses.
  • Kuldeep Yadav comes out to bat.
  • 49.2 OUT! Kohli holes out! Good length delivery in line of the stumps, Virat backs away and whips it towards Boult at long on. Hasn't got the elevation on it and Trent pouches it safely. A gem of a knock from the Indian skipper comes to an end. The entire dressing room is up on its feet.
  • 49.1 SIX! What a hit! Length delivery on off, Kohli clears his front leg and lifts it down the ground. It is straight as an arrow and hits the sightscreen.
  • Tim Southee to bowl the final over of the innings.
  • 48.6 SIX! Not from the meat of the bat but still clears the man at long on. Bouncer on off, Kumar flat-bats it over mid on. The fielder positions near the ropes but the ball sails over his head. 264/6

He keeps his eyes on the ball and dives full length to grab it inches above the ground. The dangerous Pandya departs.

Short delivery on leg, Kohli pulls it all along the ground to deep square leg for a run. The Indian skipper raises his bat skywards to sink in all the applause. Got to credit him to bat this way in humid conditions. His fifth ton this year. Also, a century has been scored at the Wankhede after Tendulkar hit one in 1996 in ODIs.

  • 42.3 Slower bouncer on leg stump, Pandya mistimes his pull to square leg for a run. Hardik is a compulsive puller and hooker so it is a good ploy to bowl short at him.
  • 42.2 A big appeal from Southee denied! Bouncer down the leg side, Pandya goes for a full fledged pull but seems to have missed it. Southee is the only one who is appealing. The keeper and the others are not even interested in. The replays show that there was clear daylight between bat and ball.

  • Hello and a warm welcome for the 1st ODI between India and New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai which happens to be the first at this venue between the two sides. Virat Kohli and Co. are at the helm of affairs at the moment and will be eager to continue their good run. Shikhar Dhawan has returned to the squad and will probably replace Ajinkya Rahane at the opening slot although the latter is in rich vein of form. The middle order is a bit inconsistent at times which the hosts will want to address quickly. Apart from that, it is a well-rounded side.
  • That brings us to the close of the first ODI! New Zealand have come out with flying colours. They outclassed India in all departments of the game and are the deserved winners. On the other hand, India had a bad day at office. Tough on Virat Kohli as he scored a majestic century but still his team ended on the losing side. The fielding was the biggest letdown for them and their middle order woes continue. Can they bounce back? Let's find that out in the second ODI in Pune on 25th October at 1330 local time (0800 GMT). Till then, goodbye and cheers!

  • Virat Kohli is a bit disappointed but feels it has been a satisfying knock from him. Admits that New Zealand took the game away from us in the second half. Adds when the opposition gets 200-plus stand, they will often be at the right side of the result. Opines that the dew came in and they were easily 30-40 runs short. Feels that the wicket also settled down as the game progressed. Once again praises Latham and Taylor for tackling their spinners. On why didn't he make Jadhav bowl, he says they didn't feel like giving the ball to him as the wicket had turn and bounce plus Pandya did his job really well and hence they didn't feel the need.
  • Latham and Taylor broke a few records, one being the highest 4th wicket stand for New Zealand and highest for any wicket at this venue. The former got to his ton but the latter departed just when his side was at the doorstep to victory. The Indians would feel what went wrong at the halfway mark. Their pacers led the way but their spinners had no answers once the duo of Latham and Taylor got in. They tried their best but it just wasn't their day. They needed to break this stand to explode the inexperienced middle order but when that happened, the match was already dragged away from them. Stay tuned for the presentation...

  • 2.2 A loud shout for an LBW! Not given! Brilliant from Bhuvneshwar! Comes back in after landing and Munro has no clue about it. The ball sneaks under his bat, hits the pads and goes to Dhoni. They appeal but the umpire shakes his head. Maybe, the height seem to be an issue there.
  • 2.1 SIX! Excellent shot, that! Kumar hurls it on a length and tries to bring it back. What does Munro do? He walks across and just whips it over deep square leg for a maximum. He's nailed that shot!

  • 1.3 Slants it away on a length outside off, Colin Munro square drives it straight to Pandey at point.
  • 1.2 This one comes back in from middle and strikes Munro high on the pads who tries to flick it away. An appeal for an LBW but it was going down leg.
