  • Mushfiqur Rahim was the only one who showed signs of resilience, scoring 26 (highest in this innings) but did not get any support from the rest. Yes, the wicket is not that easy to bat on but the score Bangladesh have posted is way, way below par. It is just a matter of time for Sri Lanka to gun this down. Are we in for some surprise or will it be a stroll in the park for the visitors? Stay with is as the chase is about to begin...
  • This innings was all about the Lankan bowling which was led by their spearhead, Suranga Lakmal who ran through the top order, bowling 7 overs on the trot and bagging 3 wickets. He was well supported by Chameera who also picked up two wickets towards the end but kept it nice and tight at the start. Also, the Sri Lankans were brilliant in the field, especially Gunathilaka. He inflicted a brilliant run out of Shakib and took a superb catch to dismiss Tamim in a single over. The hosts never recovered from there and eventually got bowled out for their 8th lowest total in this format. Tells you how much are they dependent on the duo of Tamim and Shakib.
  • A dismal batting show from the hosts to say the least! Not only will Bangladesh be disappointed but Zimbabwe too will be packing their bags to head home as Sri Lanka only have to chase 83 and score 19 runs to make it to the finals.
  • 23.6 OUT! RUBEL HOLES OUT! Clever bowling by Sandakan. He tosses a googly, it turns away from off, wanting Hossain to go after it. He does exactly that as he tries to go over long on but holes out to Tharanga there. BANGLADESH HAVE BEEN BOWLED OUT FOR 82!
  • 23.5 The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
  • 23.4 Gives it a bit of air on middle, Rahman goes for the slog sweep but the ball takes the inside edge towards square leg for a run.
  • 23.3 The batsman fails to put bat on ball.
  • Mustafizur Rahman is the last man in.
  • 23.2 OUT! TIMBER! Mortaza perishes in the search for some quick runs. He was expected to come out swinging and he falls in an attempt in doing so! Sandakan tosses it up on middle, it turns back in. Mortaza misses the heave and the ball shatters the stumps behind.
  • 23.2 The ball is too wide on the off side for the batsman to make any contact. The umpire has signalled a wide.
  • 23.1 The leg spinner on middle, it turns back in. Mortaza tries to defend but misses to get hit on the pads. The players appeal but the umpire shakes his head.
  • Rubel Hossain walks out at no. 10.
  • 22.6 OUT! Second wicket in the over! Chameera is ecstatic! Another bad way to be dismissed but Sri Lanka won't mind. Chameera bangs it in short down the leg side, Nasir goes for the pull but manages to tickle it to Dickwella who pouches yet another one. End of another double wicket over for Lanka. 80/8
  • 22.5 The batsman works it down the leg side. The batsmen have run through for a single.
  • 22.4 In the air... but out of reach! He lands it on a length around middle, Mortaza tries to flick but he gets a leading edge towards cover where the fielder runs in but can't get to it.
  • Mashrafe Mortaza, the Bangladesh skipepr comes out to bat. Expecting him to look for some quick runs. Time for some entertainment? Maybe.
  • 22.3 OUT! The bowling change has done the trick! Chameera gets the reward for bowling well throughout. He bowls it on middle, Rahim who has been so patient till now tries to cut loose. He dances down the track and drags the length ball off the inner half towards short mid-wicket where Kusal Mendis takes a good low catch. The last recognized batsman makes the long walk back in disappointment. Chameera is delighted.
  • 22.2 On the pads, worked to mid-wicket.
  • 22.1 Back of a length on off, Rahim defends it solidly.
  • Dushmantha Chameera is back on. My colleague Ricky wanted him to come into the attack and Chandimal is surely listening to him.

  • 21.5 Very full on off, driven to covers.

  • 20.5 Bouncer! The batsman ducks in time to let that one go over him.
  • 20.4 Another ball which is angling into the batsman. He flicks it to mid-wicket once again.
  • 20.3 Worked to mid-wicket with the angle.
  • 20.2 On the pads, flicked through square leg for a run.
  • 20.1 Back of a length on off, Hossain defends it.
  • 19.6 Flighted ball on off, defended. 74/6

  • 19.4 Floats it wide outside off, Hossain slices it through point for a run.
  • 19.3 The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
  • 19.2 HOWZZAT? Not out is the answer to that question! Sandakan floats it up on off, it turns back in sharply. Hossain misses as he tries to flick off the back foot and the ball hits him on the pads. The players appeal, they are actually pleading but the umpire shakes his head. Replays later on show that it would have clipped the leg stump and hence, remain umpires call.
  • 19.2 On the pads, spinning away further. The umpire signals a wide.
  • 19.1 Floats it up on middle, driven down to long on for a run.
  • 18.6 Bouncer! Nasir ducks under it. 71/6
  • 18.5 Wide enough for the batsman to not play at it.
  • 18.4 Worked to mid-wicket with the angle.
  • Nasir Hossain walks in next.
  • 18.3 OUT! Bangladesh lose their only review! Sri Lanka continue to make further inroads. Perera lands it on a length around off, it jags back in a touch. Abul tries to defend but the ball seems to have taken a faint inside edge and goes to Dickwella who does well to go down to his right and catch it. He throws the ball up in the air in joy and appeals and the umpire raises his finger. Abul walks up to his partner and has a chat and then reviews. The replays roll in and there is a clear spike as the ball passes the bat. Interesting they went for the review because as a batsman you would always know whether you have hit it or not. Another one bites the dust for the home side.
  • It is all happening out there! Another review, this time it is given out for caught behind. Abul is the man who is in question but he reviews after a chat with Rahim.
  • 18.2 FOUR! Another short ball outside off, Hasan tries to cut but gets an outside edge over the slip fielder for a boundary.
  • 18.1 NASTY! Perera bowls a short ball, he really bowled that with effort as it shoots off the surface. Hasan does really well to defend it down onto the ground.

  • 17.5 Gives it a nice loop outside off, Hasan drives it through covers for a couple.
  • 17.4 Drags his length back outside off, Rahim guides it through point for a run.
  • 17.3 NOT OUT! There is a faint inside edge! Sandakan gives it air on off, it turns back in. Rahim seems to have missed it as he tries to defend. The ball hits his pads and goes down towards fine leg. The players make a huge appeal and in the meantime the batsmen take two. The umpire shakes his head for the LBW appeal and signals it as leg byes. The Sri Lankan players after having a conversation opt to review. Replays roll in and it shows a faint inside edge. The on-field call stays and Sri Lanka lose their only review.
  • Review time! A huge appeal for LBW but the umpire shakes his head. Dickwella seems to be pretty confident and he wants his captain to review and Chandimal goes for it. Looks close though!
  • 17.2 Floats it up on off, Rahim sweeps it through square leg for a brace.
  • 17.1 Worked with the spin towards mid-wicket.
  • 16.6 Driven through the covers by the batsman. The batsmen have run through for a single. 59/5

  • 16.2 The batsman chooses to leave the ball outside his off stump.
  • Abul Hasan walks out to the middle.
  • 16.1 OUT! Half the side back for Bangladesh. Perera bowls it on a length around middle. Rush of blood for Sabbir as he charges down the track and tries to go over the top. However, the bat turns in his hands and he ends up mistiming it towards mid on. The ball lobs to Madushanka, the substitute fielder stationed there who accepts an easy catch. A needless shot by Sabbir to be honest and Rahim at the other end is gutted as gives him a stare. Nevertheless, Perera gets his first and Bangladesh are staring down the barrel.

  • 14.5 DROPPED! Not an easy one but you do expect a man with the gloves on to take it. Perera angles it on the pads, Rahim tries to tickle it fine but it goes too close to the keeper, who dives to his left, gets both hands to it but can't hang on. The ball rolls towards square leg and the batsmen take a run. Dickwella should have taken this. How costly will this prove?
  • 14.4 Another length ball around off, Rahim defends it solidly. Good bowling from Perera, four dots in a row.
  • 14.3 On a length around off, Rahim keeps it out.
  • 14.2 On the stumps, defended.

  • Drinks!

  • 13.5 Driven towards the mid on region.
  • 13.4 Drags his length back on middle, Sabbir tries to flick but closes the face of his bat early and hence gets a soft leading edge, back to the bowler.

Mahmudullah though, timed that pull shot to perfection but fails to keep it down. He picks out the only fielder, Chameera, out on the leg side at fine leg who takes a great catch. A well worked out plan by Sri Lanka and Bangladesh continue to fall.

He dishes out a full ball outside off, Anamul goes for the booming drive away from his body, a needless shot on a wicket which is not that easy to bat on. A good decision by the captain as Hawk Eye later on shows it was pitching outside leg.

  • Pitch Report - Athar Ali Khan says it is different pitch but looks similar to the one on which the previous game was played. Mentions there is a little moisture and it will assist the spinners. Opines run-scoring is not going to be easy. Reckons 230-240 would be a good score on this wicket.
  • Sri Lanka, on the other hand, are positioned second on the table courtesy a better NRR than Zimbabwe. A win will guarantee a spot in the final but if they lose, they have to ensure that they don't let Bangladesh win by a big margin. The first encounter between the two saw the home side blow away the Lankans completely. Chandimal and his boys will be aware of the fact and it will be interesting to see how they come out today. Stay tuned for the toss which is coming up in a bit.
  • Hello and welcome to the last game of the group stage of the Tri-series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The hosts have already qualified for the finals with three wins in three games and that too with a bonus point. They would look to continue with their winning momentum today.
  • Right then! Bangladesh have been handed a serious drubbing at the hands of Sri Lanka today. Wouldn't be wrong to predict that Chandimal and his boys have the momentum by their side heading into the finals. Bangladesh would look at this as a bad day at the office and need to leave this performance behind. It's 1-1 between these two sides in the group stages. Who will have his hands on the trophy? We shall find out on Saturday, January 27 at 1200 Local (06oo GMT). Till then, goodbye and cheers!
  • Man of the Match, Suranga Lakmal starts by saying they had a plan set coming into this match and is elated to execute it to perfection. Mentions they worked really hard in the past few days and it paid off.
  • Sri Lanka skipper, Dinesh Chandimal is really proud with the way his team played today. States they did everything according to the plan and is happy to come out on the right side of the result. Lauds Lakmal and Chameera to set the tone in the first innings with the ball and then credits Tharanga and Gunathilaka for finishing things off, all by themselves. Is really happy with his team's effort on the field and hopes to put up a similar show in the finals.
  • Bangladesh skipper, Mashrafe Mortaza, says they can't win everyday. Mentions they would look to work on their mistakes. He states they can't always be reliant on Tamim and Shakib. Reckons the middle order needs to stand up and deliver the goods. Admits all the boys are trying their best and hence, nobody can be blamed. Opines it was a good wicket to bat on but the application wasn't there from the batters. Ends by saying it was a bad day for them.
  • A commanding show from the Lankans to book their berth in the finals. They were under the pump but came out all guns blazing today to outclass the hosts in all departments of the game. Firstly, they displayed a disciplined bowling performance, especially Lakmal, to bundle out Bangladesh for a scanty 82 and then chased down the target without breaking a sweat. Both the openers, Gunathilaka and Tharanga seemed like they batted on a different surface as they swatted the hosts' bowlers around the park and got their team over the line inside 12 overs. This is their biggest win against Bangladesh in terms of balls remaining...
  • 11.5 That's it! Sri Lanka are through to the finals! It's the cutter again from Rahman, Gunathilaka goes for the pull but gets an inside edge through backward square leg and the batsmen cross over. SRI LANKA BEAT BANGLADESH BY 10 WICKETS!

  • 11.1 Slower one, angling in on middle and off, Tharanga hangs back to keep it out towards the cover fielder.
  • 10.6 What was Gunathilaka trying to do? Shapes up for a fancy reverse sweep but it's too full to play that shot. Misses and the ball goes just past the leg pole and into the keeper's gloves. 81/0
  • 10.5 Turning back in on middle, worked with the spin towards square leg.
  • 10.4 Loopy delivery on off, UT milks it down to long off for a single.
  • 10.3 FOUR! Gets it through this time! A bit fuller and outside off, Tharanga leans across and drills it through cover-point. No need to run for those!
  • 10.2 Shortish and asking to be hit, Tharanga flays it towards backward point where Nasir Hossain makes a diving stop.
  • 10.2 FIVE WIDES! Bonus runs for Sri Lanka! Shakib fires it down the leg side, Upul just tries to help it away but fails to get any wood on it. The keeper too can't get to it as it races down to the fine leg fence for a boundary.
  • 10.1 Floats it up around off, Upul stands back in defense.
  • Powerplay 2 signalled. But it's of no matter given the context of the game. Anyway, Shakib Al Hasan to roll his arm over. Sri Lanka need 12 to win.
  • 9.6 Good length delivery, angling in on middle and leg, clipped in front of the square leg fielder for a quick single. 71/0
  • 9.5 Back of a length delivery outside off, Gunathilaka sits back and steers it behind point for a single.

  • 9.4 Wide! Second one of the over! Mustafizur bowls another short one, it sails over the head of the batsman.
  • 9.3 Back of a length delivery, angling in, dragged off the inner half through square leg. Shakib in the deep covers good ground to keep them down to one.
