Watch: The second trailer of Akshay Kumar-starrer Airlift is intriguing

The new trailer of Akshay Kumar starrer Airlift is a much more fast-paced look at the rapid fire developments in Kuwait when Sadaam Husain took over, than the first trailer.

The trailer opens with the film’s ‘swooper’-hero Ranjit Katyal (Akshay Kumar; he helped aerially evacuate thousands of Indians from war-torn Kuwait) urging an official of the Home Ministry in India (played by the very talented Kumud Mishra) to get the Indians out of Kuwait.

It ends with Purab Kohli sarcastically telling Akshay that Indians in Kuwait have suddenly discovered their patriotic side after the invasion.

To this comes Akshay’s response, “When you are hurt it’s your mother who you call out for in pain.” This is a far better punchline than Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale punchline, “Just because I became civilized everyone around me became uncivilized.” But would it become as famous?

Since Airlift is being released to coincide with Republic Day, a whole lot of patriotic zeal has been added to this trailer, including a snatch of 'Vande mataram'. This is all very fine as long as the story being told is true to the events which occurred at the time of Saddam’s invasion of Kuwait.

The trailer seems to suggest an impeccable level of authenticity except for one Sheikh character, whose thickly-accented Hindi makes it seem like he has just walked out of Comedy Nights Bachao.

Incidentally the lovely Nimrat Kaur is made to resemble Akshay Kumar’s beautiful wife Twinkle Khanna. Or am we just imagining it?
