But the most surprising and the best performance of the evening was given by The Chainsmokers duo — who partnered with Coldplay for there new single, 'Something Just Like This' which was released shortly before the performance.

No-one had expected Chris Martin, who performed earlier in the George Michael tribute, to come back on stage for a performance.

The Chainsmokers have a reputation for partnering with up-and-coming talents in the pop world, but this time around it looks like they looked towards the top of the charts for help.

Here's their performance at BRIT 2017 awards:

Coldplay’s Chris Martin took up singing duties on the upbeat, loving track, which sounds like a perfect blend of the current sound that has been working for Coldplay, with a Chainsmokers-style EDM-pop drop reminiscent of their 2016 hit single 'Roses.'

The release of 'Something Just Like This' comes as something of a surprise given that the electronic duo is still busy promoting two other singles.

Just last month, the NYC-based pairing dropped 'Paris,' which sees member Drew Taggart fronting the majority of the vocals for the first time on a major single. That song debuted within the top 10 in both the U.S. and the U.K., and since then it has gone on to spend a handful of weeks inside the highest tier on the charts.

'Something Just Like This' is expected to be featured on The Chainsmokers’ upcoming debut full-length album, which will be out at some point later in 2017.

While the music video is still not out, here's the lyric video:
