Watch: Sonu Nigam's single with India's first transgender band is powerful
Even in this day and age when various organisations are working hard to sensitise mainstream society about transgenders, they still face social stigma; you don't see them watching a film with you in a theatre, or even shopping at a mall or working with you in the same organisation.
But slowly, they have begun to make their own space in society. And now they have found recognition in Sonu Nigam's single Sab Rab De Bande, for which he collaborated with India's first transgender band, called 6 Pack.
The song comes with the message that all of us, irrespective of the gender roles that we were assigned at birth, are in the end human beings and children of god.
The lyrics in Punjabi go, "We all come from the same light/Who then is good or evil? We're all children of god."
The video too carries a powerful message, of how a transgender is detested right from childhood. Even when they step out of home and try to live a normal life, other people's prejudices create hindrances.
