The first look of Jessica Biel as a killer without a cause in the upcoming crime thriller series The Sinner just dropped. Starring alongside the Texas Chainsaw Massacre star is Bill Pullman (Independence Day, While You Were Sleeping) as an investigator who gets caught up in her story.
Written by Derek Simonds, the first installment of the close-ended series, based on Petra Hammesfahr’s book, follows a young mother (Biel) who, when overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage, commits a startling act of violence and, to her horror, has no idea why.
The event launches an inverted and utterly surprising crime thriller whose driving force is not the 'who' or the 'what' — but the 'why' — as an investigator (Pullman) finds himself obsessed with uncovering the woman’s buried motive. Together they travel a harrowing journey into the depths of her psyche and the violent secrets hidden in her past.
Biel also executive-produced the series with her producing partner Michelle Purple through their company Iron Ocean, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Sinner marks Biel's first regular TV role in nearly 15 years; she started with the long-running family drama 7th Heaven but departed the series after six seasons.
With the exception of a one-episode stint on New Girl and voice roles on animated comedies BoJack Horseman and Family Guy, Biel has largely stuck to films in recent years with credits such as Valentine's Day, The A-Team and The Illusionist.
