Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s sister Anubhuti wields the megaphone, yet again for a shot film, long after her directorial debut Moi Marjaani in 2013.
Produced by Guneet Monga, the film titled Call Waiting, is inspired by a author Dorothy Parker’s century old tale A telephone call, is however written by Swati Bhattacharya. Margarita with a Straw actress Sayani Gupta plays the lead in the film.
Anubhati, however, had her first hands on experience in direction assisting Anurag Kashyap in Dev D. Anubhuti and Swati had teamed up with Guneet for another short film Bunny.
The three-minute film encapsulates a girl’s life when she is desperately waiting for the first call from her ‘crush’.
“It’s a sweet film of a girl who is experiencing that feeling which all of us have gone through at some stage in our life… The plethora of thoughts that come to our mind while we are waiting for someone to reply or call… That strange feeling of being unsure, impatient, excited sometime and restless… It's a one woman piece, a single actor who is just expressing her current state of mind,” Sayani told Firstpost.
Working with Anubhati in the short film was quite a fun-filled experience for Sayani. She further reveals that Anubhati shot the film in one day with an all-women crew.
“It was all-women's team, so more power to us. We were barely 5 people running to various locations in one day to shoot this film. We did the shoot in one day and we had no proper permission it was shot with a total guerrilla strategy,” said Sayani.
