Watch: 'Anne' trailer brings to life Green Gables' world and society
The trailer of the TV adaptation of the literary classic Anne of Green Gables, written by Lucy Maud Montgomery, portrays the enchanting and simultaneously difficult world of Green Gables.
The trailer of Anne tells the story of the titular character, how she is adopted by an elderly couple who wanted a son and how she finds some level of acceptance in their family. Anne's life is not an easy one; she has been treated like an unwanted child not once but twice, because her adoptive mother does not see how she can contribute to the family. She is also looked at with disdain by her classmates, who look down upon her because she is an orphan.
The best part of this trailer is the glimpse we get of Anne's creativity, sense of adventure and her way with words. She has an imagination which is much more active than that of her peers. It is also endearing to see her forge a friendship with someone who appreciates her ability to imagine. The protagonist is also a feminist; in one scene, she tells her mother that girls can do anything that boys can, "and much more".
The visuals in this TV series are beautiful, especially the shots of the sea, cliffs and the woods.
Anne begins streaming on Netflix on 12 May, 2017.
