Vir Das to star in American television show In Theory; will play a math-genius turned radio jockey
Comedian Vir Das is all set to get his own show with a leading American network called In Theory. Written by Das and Chris Case, the comedian will be seen playing a self-destructive mathematical genius who changes professions and turns into an Indian radio jockey called Jazz.
Jazz relocates from Mumbai to a small midwestern town where he is consumed by the thought of completing his deceased father's unfinished work Theory of Happiness.
“I pitched the idea to producer Doug Robinson who liked it. I wanted a story that represented the brand of comedy one is putting out into the world today and this seemed like the perfect universe. To lend a genuine Indian perspective to comedy from India in an American setting is the focus of the show. I’ve received a fantastic response for my online comedy special and this seemed like the next logical step. This is the golden era of American television and I wanted to be a part of it,” said Das, according to a Mumbai Mirror report.
In Theory will primarily be shot in the United States of America, however the network is yet to zero in on a date for its premiere.
Das recently appeared in Abroad Understanding, touted as Netflix's first Indian comedy special. He also appeared on the popular late night talk show Conan which is hosted by Conan O'Brien
