Vinod Khanna passes away; Baahubali 2 premiere called off as mark of respect
As a mark of respect to veteran actor Vinod Khanna, filmmaker Karan Johar and the entire team of Telugu filmmaker SS Rajamouli's upcoming war epic Baahubali 2: The Conclusion have mutually decided to call off the star-studded premiere of their long-awaited film, that was scheduled to take place on 27 April in Mumbai.
Johar's banner Dharma Productions has purchased the Hindi version of the film and is also responsible for its marketing and distribution just like it was for the first part, Rajamouli's 2015 blockbuster Baahubali: The Beginning.
Johar, Rajamouli and the entire team of the film have issued a join statement saying:
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved, the legendary Vinod Khanna. The demise has come as a huge shock to all of us. As a mark of respect for our dearly departed, the premiere event of Baahubali: The Conclusion is now cancelled."
Khanna had been hospitalised since Friday, 31 March. At this time his son Rahul Khanna had told the press that the yesteryear screen icon had been admitted after suffering from severe dehydration and added that doctors hoped to discharge Khanna senior soon.
The hospital where Khanna had been undergoing treatment issued a statement that read: "Veteran actor and Member of Parliament Mr Vinod Khanna, who was admitted to the Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, breathed his last at 11.20 am due to advanced bladder carcinoma."
Johar also tweeted a condolence message for Khanna saying, "His screen presence is unparalleled even today...his super star swag is what we grew up on....RIP
#VinodKhanna ...thoughts and prayers...."
