'Ude Dil Befikre' is everything we've seen of Befikre so far: Careless, free-spirited, wild

Have you heard the last part of 'Nashe Si Chadh Gayi', the song from Befikre? It feels that the new song of the film, 'Ude Dil Befikre' starts from where the former ends.

Building up on the same music, 'Ude Dil Befikre' is everything that we have seen of Befikre so far — careless, free-spirited and wild. The sad part is that there is nothing new. Projected as an anthem of the uninhibited, 'Ude Dil Befikre' takes forward from the trailer of the film. Or does it?

Set in Paris, the music video starts with Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor’s livewire characters daring each other to do stripteases, ballet on the streets and stealing a football from the stadium during an ongoing match. Vishal-Shekhar’s energetic and high-octane music serves as an appropriate background score and Benny Dayal’s vocals adds the punch. Jaideep Sahni’s lyrics provide a catchy chorus that has a good recall value.

But what does not work for the video is that it looks like every other still, trailer or song of Befikre. If we keep 'Labon Ka Karobaar' aside, we see just a linear narrative of the film from its songs and trailers that hammer home the concept of wild love. But they fail to provide a glimpse of any drama, conflict or twist in the film — the very elements that make for engaging storytelling.

In 'Ude Dil Befikre' , Singh and Kapoor’s characters get detained by the police but they continue to dance, using their handcuffs as a prop. Sigh!

Another element that fails to make a mark are the French vocals by Sophie Choudry. Her soft vocals are barely audible as opposed to those of Caralisa Monteiro in 'Nashe Si Chadh Gayi' that add value to the soundtrack.

Nonetheless, the song will serve as a popular dance number owing to its rhythmic value. Though there is only a little dance, the dance direction by Vaibhavi Merchant is a pleasure to the eye and induces you to bang your head along.

Befikre marks Aditya Chopra’s return to direction after eight years, his last venture being Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. The film is produced by Yash Raj Films and is slated to release on 9 December.
