Toilet: Ek Prem Katha - Akshay Kumar marries a buffalo, romances Bhumi Pednekar in latest song Bakheda
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha has been creating buzz ever since the concept of the film — the need for proper sanitation, especially for women — became known. Starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar, this film was praised for the social context it sheds light on, and Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chief Pahlaj Nihalani also said it should be made tax-free. More recently, it made headlines because the director of documentary Manini, Praveen Vyas, sent a legal notice to the writers of the film, claiming they had plagiarised scenes.
The trailer of the film gave us a glimpse into how Keshav and Jaya fell in love, and how she motivated him to build a toilet because of how uneasy she felt as a result of having to relieve herself in the open. The 'Has Mat Pagli' song displayed how Keshav courted Jaya, and received flak because Akshay Kumar can be seen stalking, filming and following Bhumi Pednekar's character.
In the latest song 'Bakheda', we see an embarrassed Akshay Kumar walking around a pyre because he is getting married to a buffalo. His father explains that he is a manglik and that his kundli is unfavourable, which is why the buffalo is their last resort. In the latter half of the song, we see Keshav and Jaya's romance blooming; they find happiness in simpler things, like drinking tea together, going for rides on his motorbike and meeting secretly at night.
Kumar's character is obsessed with the idea of falling in love and getting married, and we see him make up his mind asking Jaya's parents for her hand in marriage. Sukhwinder Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan's voices are an interesting combination when put together, and complement each other highly in the song. The lyrics are simplistic, and speak about how there is no bigger turmoil in life than love.
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha also stars Anupam Kher and Rajesh Sharma. Directed by Shree Narayan Singh, the film is slated to release on 11 August.
