The Grinch trailer: Benedict Cumberbatch brings Dr Seuss' character to life in the grumpiest manner possible
The trailer of Illumination's upcoming holiday animation film The Grinch is out and it's as grumpy as one would expect it to be. Based on Dr Seuss’ classic best-seller How The Grinch Stole Christmas, the movie stars Sherlock Homes' actor Benedict Cumberbatch providing the voice over for the film's lead — the Grinch.
The trailer sees a grumpy (what else did we expect?) Grinch being woken up to the chirpy tunes of Pharell Williams' 'Happy'. We then follow the green animation's morning routine with his (aww-dorable) dog, after which he heads to a grocery story and sets about doing mean, malicious, all-round 'grinchy' things to the customers, until the end of the trailer, when he is knocked flat on his butt by an inflatable snowman.
With Cumberbatch as the voice of the Grinch, we can expect a dry, witty yet sarcastic laugh riot coming our way.
The Grinch is by the creators of Despicable Me, Minions The Secret Life of Pets and Sing and has been helmed by Scott Mosier and Yarrow Cheney.
The animated film will hit theater screens on 9 November this year.
In 2000, another movie adaption of Dr Seuss' book was released in the form of Ron Howard and Jim Carrey’s How The Grinch Stole Christmas which has gone on to become a Christmas classic in the years since its release.
