Four years after her death in June 2013, the Jiah Khan suicide case continues to make news. The latest development in the case is that Jiah’s alleged boyfriend at the time, Sooraj Pancholi — charged with abetting her suicide — has asked for the trial to be expedited. Speaking to the Times of India, advocate Prashant Patil who is handling the case for Pancholi, said, “My client has the right to a speedy, fair and straightforward trial which clearly hasn’t happened so far. We’ve brought it to the High Court’s notice and hopefully, the matter will be expedited.” The petition will be heard before the court on 6 November. Jiah Khan’s mother, Rabiya Khan who is a prosecution witness like many others, has reportedly been filing many applications ever since the case started. That has caused a lot of delay in the court’s proceedings, reports The Times of India. Jiah Khan made her Bollywood debut in 2007 with Ram Gopal Verma’s Nishabd opposite Amitabh Bachchan, followed by the 2008 Aamir Khan blockbuster Ghajini and then the 2010 rom-com Housefull directed by Sajid Khan. In 2013, the actress’s body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her Mumbai residence. Investigations in the case have taken several twists and turns since then.
