Short films are a brilliant medium to convey a story, and it has many advantages. For a filmmaker they are affordable, allow to explore creativity and provides room to take a risk. On the other hand, the viewers are treated to a scintillating cinematic experience in a matter of minutes. Short films are the perfect example of ‘dynamites come in small packages’, and SonyLIV has brought the amazing experience of viewing short films with the release of ‘The Gift’ and ‘Papa We Love You Too’ on 22nd June 2017.
These two short films were screened on the same day of their release at a promotional event in the presence of their talented cast and crew. Here are a few pictures from the star-studded event!
After all the attendees were seated the two short films were screened.
‘Papa We Love You Too’ was the first film to be screened during the launch event. The story of the film beautifully depicts how most of us forget to spend time with our loved ones because of our hectic work life. Want to watch the film? Click here!
This was followed by the screening of ‘The Gift’ which was co-scripted and directed by well-known actor Kushal Punjabi. He said the inspiration behind the short film was the uncertainty that exists in relationships today. You can watch the short film here.
The screening of the short films was followed by a panel discussion on the potential of short films and digital media.
Kabir Sadanand the director of ‘Papa We Love You Too’ talked about how digital media through analytics can exactly tell you who and how many people watched your film which makes it easier for filmmakers to identify the right audience according to the subject of their film.
The launch event was concluded by a Q&A session. An interesting and rather important question that came up during the session was regarding the monetization of digital content. Mr Uday Sodi, Head - Digital Business Sony Pictures Networks India answered the question, “We have TV shows we create along with a huge library of both short and feature-length films and a sports section which are the three big metro categories. Most of the content today is monetized through advertising, and we have a huge set of advertisers on our platform and for full-length movies, you can subscribe to the service for 49 rupees/month. The advertising market in the digital space has been growing at around 30-35% annually, and it’s one of the fastest growing advertising medium in India”.
