Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani has zeroed in on Sonam Kapoor to play an actor from the 1980s and 1990s in Sanjay Dutt’s biopic, opposite Ranbir Kapoor.
Mumbai Mirror reports that the director confirmed that Sonam has joined the cast of the biopic. She will be seen romancing childhood friend Ranbir Kapoor, who plays the role of Dutt in the film. Incidentally, the two actors made their acting debut together in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya ten years ago.
The romantic drama bombed at the box office and the two never worked together after the same. There was conjecture about how the two industry kids do not get along anymore. However, putting all rumours to rest, they are all set to share the screen space yet again.
A report by the Times of India statesthat Sonam will do a special appearance in the film. Rather than playing any particular actress, she will play all the actresses that Dutt dated during the 1980s and 1990s rolled into one. She will also go through a makeover to do justice to the time frame of the film. Given the fashionista, we doubt that will be an issue.
According to reports, Dutt had dated four actresses during the two decades. His first affair was with the co-star of his debut film Sunil Dutt’s Rocky – Tina Munim. However, the affair was short-lived as she left Dutt for the much older Rajesh Khanna.
The second actor that Dutt dated and even went on to marry was Richa Sharma. They gave birth to a daughter but eventually got divorced. Dutt’s most discussed affair followed when he dated his Khalnayak co-star Madhuri Dixit. Apart from these three, he also had a short-lived affair with supermodel-turned-actor Lisa Ray.
Given these details, Sonam is in for a huge challenge as she will embody these four actors. Ranbir is also working hard for the film as he is undergoing a transformation to depict Dutt’s three decade-long career on the silver screen. As per Mumbai Mirror, Anushka Sharma will also share screen space with Kapoor once again after Bombay Velvet and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil as she plays a journalist in the film.
Interestingly, she also played the role of a journalist in her last collaboration with Hirani in PK. Now that Sonam has given a go-ahead, it will be her first film with the prolific filmmaker and her third biopic after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Neerja.
