Actress Sonakshi Sinha and singer Armaan Malik had an all-out feud on micro-blogging website Twitter over the issue of whether actors should be allowed to sing. Now, singer Alka Yagnik and music producer Amit Trivedi have aired their views in support of Sinha.
Alka Yagnik, best remembered for songs like 'Taal Se Taal' and 'Ek Do Teen', said, "Why not? Why shouldn’t actors sing? In any case anybody can be made to sound like a singer these days, what with the help of advanced technology like auto-tuning."
Amit Trivedi, who has produced music for films like Wake Up Sid! and Dev.D, also expressed that he does not see any problem with asking actors to sing. "As long as the actors sing really well it’s all really good. I don’t have a problem with actors singing. Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh have sung for me," he said.
The issue started with people reacting negatively to the inclusion of Sonakshi Sinha as one of the opening acts for the Justin Bieber 'Purpose' concert, which will be held on 10 May, 2017. The actress has sung songs like 'Aaj Mood Ishqaholic Hai' and 'Let's Celebrate' in the past.
Singer Kailash Kher was the first to speak about the subject, and in an interview, he has been quoted saying, It doesn't give a good message internationally... Whenever any singer from the West comes to India, we get an actor on board to match their level. We don't get a singer for another singer, but an actor. Event managers and producers of the entertainment industry are so scared."
Singer Armaan Malik, who has sung songs for films like Noor, Kapoor and Sons and Hero, seconded Kher's opinion and posted this tweet:

Sinha did not take this criticism well at all, and responded with this tweet:
A secure artist wud always encourage another artist to grow their skills and follow their dreams. Art in any form should not be suppressed. https://t.co/hJlm9U6Gk3 — NOOR (@sonakshisinha) April 24, 2017
She also claimed that Malik himself asked her to sing for him:
And this is definitely not the same tune you were singing when you wanted me to sing for you 🎶 https://t.co/hJlm9U6Gk3

Malik pointed out that she was referring to his brother, not him:
He also said, "It takes years and years of devotion to be able to sing and pursue music to reach a professional level. Leave music and singing, any art for that matter requires that. Millions of singers are finding opportunities to work. Imagine how crushed they would feel when they see non-singers getting that chance?! All I believe in is putting the truth out there. When these actors sing their own songs the average middleclass movie going public thinks, ‘If they can sing, we can also sing’. The standard of music and singing in our cinema has fallen so long because anybody can sing these days. Aspiring singers will stop putting efforts in learning music, ragas, solfege, classical music, etc."
Sinha later revealed that she will not be performing at the Justin Bieber concert. After confirming this, the actress also said "Secondly, I am an actor who also loves music, loves to perform and sing. And if anyone has a problem with that, in the wise words of Bieber himself, they can go 'love' themselves," on Twitter.
Amaal Malik also put out a post on Facebook targeted at Sinha, which explained his stance.
