Si3 box office collection: Suriya's film rakes in 62 cr worldwide during four day weekend
Suriya’s long delayed Si3, has taken a thundering opening worldwide. It is reported to have done approximately Rs 62 Crores worldwide in its opening four day weekend (Feb 9 to 12), according to our sources from Chennai. This collection is despite threats of piracy from torrent website Tamil Rockers.
Si3 carries mixed reports, though fans of Suriya seem to have liked it. Si3 and its Telugu version Yamudu had a wide release, but had stiff competition in key markets of Kerala from Prithviraj’s Ezra and Nagarjuna’s Om Namo Venkatesaya in Andhra region. Despite that Si3 performed well in its opening weekend, thanks to Suriya’s star power.
The four day break up from trade sources is: Tamil Nadu (Rs 18 Cr), Kerala (6 Cr), Karnataka (5.5 Cr) , Overseas (Rs 15 Cr), Andhra and Telengana (Yamudu, 18 Cr).
However on Monday the film has taken a downward swing and could not hold on to its fabulous opening. The coming week is important if the film has to be profitable for its buyers.
The ongoing political issue between Sasikala and O Panneerselvam also impacted the business of Suriya's film. However, with Bogan and Akshay Kumar's Jolly LLB 2 also vying for screen space, Suriya's film has emerged the winner in terms of sheer footfall.
Si-3 is Suriya’s biggest release in Tamil and Telugu and was screened in over 2000 screens worldwide from 9 Feb. There is a lot of hype surrounding the long delayed film, which has been pre-sold for over Rs 100 cr via theatrical, satellite and other rights.
The film is directed by action-family drama specialist Hari, and also stars Anushka Shetty, Shruti Haasan, Soori and host of other actors. It marks the Tamil film debut of popular television actor and Mr World 2015, Thakur Anoop Singh, who is playing the main villain in the film. Si-3 also has music by Harris Jayaraj, a Suriya favourite who has composed many hits for him in the past.
