Shah Rukh Khan's film with Imtiaz Ali scores pre-release business of over Rs 100 crores
Last month, it was reported that SS Rajamouli's much-anticipated war epic Baahubali: The Conclusion has already done a pre-release business of over Rs 500 crores, thus, breaking multiple records.
Now, Bollywood Hungama reports that filmmaker Imtiaz Ali's next untitled film, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma, has done a pre-release business of over Rs 100 crores. Narendra Hirawat of NH Studioz has acquired the domestic and overseas distribution rights of the film for a whooping Rs 125 crore. While Hirawat confirmed acquiring the film, he chose not to disclose the cost.
Nonetheless, it is a remarkable achievement for the makers as they have not even finalised the title yet. India.com reports Ali has confirmed that he has not finalising either The Ring or Rahnuma as the title of his romantic drama. As the makers brainstorm the title of the film, they can take out a few hours to celebrate the impressive pre-release business of the film which has presumably covered its production cost.
Two years ago, another of Shah Rukh's films, Rohit Shetty's Dilwale also got sold for a stunning Rs 170 crores, i.e., Rs 130 crore for domestic distribution rights and Rs 40 crore for overseas distribution rights, as per the Bollywood Hungama report. However, that film had an ensemble cast in Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon and also got released during the Christmas holidays.
Ali's next is slated to release this August, in the absence of any holiday season. Since the Eid weekend is already booked by Kabir Khan's period romantic war drama Tubelight, starring Salman Khan, August seems like a good time to release the long-awaited film.
The untitled film is being shot across Europe, including in Prague. Shah Rukh plays a tourist guide in the film and is romantically paired with Sharma in the film, with whom he has collaborated in her debut film, Aditya Chopra's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, and Yash Chopra's last directorial Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
