Selena Gomez joins cast of The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, starring Robert Downey Jr as animal-loving physician
Selena Gomez has come on board the film based on the popular Doctor Dolittle character from the 1920s children’s book series, joining Robert Downey Jr in Universal’s The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, as reported by Variety.
The film will see Downey Jr play the physician Doctor Dolittle who can speak to animals, with Gomez joining Tom Holland, Emma Thompson and Ralph Fiennes in the voice cast. Antonio Banderas and Michael Sheen are going to portray live-action characters in the film, as reported by Variety.
The character has a rich movie legacy, with the 1967 musical Doctor Dolittle winning the Oscars for best original song and visual effects. The 1998 film, starring Eddie Murphy, was a huge success and was followed by a sequel in 2001. Universal bagged the latest project with Stephen Gaghan of Syriana-fame as the director, and Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum producing, as reported by Variety.
While Robert Downey Jr is probably hanging up his Iron Man suit after the two Avengers: Infinity War movies, Gomez is all set to drop a new album this year. The singer-actor’s last outing was the art house success Spring Breakers and her voice role in the upcoming third sequel of the Hotel Transylvania franchise. She is also the executive producer for the Netflix hit 13 Reasons Why.
