Sara Ali Khan to make her debut with Ranveer Singh in Zoya Akhtar's next film?
This could be an interesting casting coup.
After multiple reports of how Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh's daughter Sara Ali Khan was making her debut with Student of the Year 2 and/or with Shahid Kapoor's younger brother Ishan Khattar, a fresh set of rumours have surfaced.
According to this Spotboye report, Sara may be making her debut with Ranveer Singh in Zoya Akhtar's next film Gully Boy, which is a coming-of-age story of local rappers from Mumbai, Divine and Naezy. It is reported that the films producers, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, along with Zoya, have been in touch with Sara to finalise her involvement.
Firstpost had earlier reported that Zoya Akhtar was definitely going to make this film, and that it would start rolling sometime this year. "Yes, my next film is inspired by real life street rappers. I watched these kids on the net and they just blew my mind. I didn’t know that this kind of music was coming out of the lanes and by-lanes of Mumbai. People are so consumed with listening to just film music that nobody pays attention to some serious talent on the streets. That is how it all started," she said.
If Sara and Ranveer are cast together in the film, it will indeed be an unconventional but pleasing-on-the-eyes choice.
Speculation is rife that Ranveer Singh will play an underdog who rises from the slums of Mumbai to become a rapper addressing Dalit oppression, street life, economic inequality and homosexuality and even corrupt politicians. Interestingly, Ranveer himself is a very good rapper in real life; he used to rap and create radio jingles before he became an actor.
