Saif Ali Khan's Chef, Dulquer Salmaan's Solo, Blade Runner 2049: Know Your Releases
This Friday will see an array of films hitting the silver screen to get our cinephile buds tingling. Saif Ali Khan starrer Chef (a remake of the original Hollywood movie of the same name) is all set to release, alongside Dulquer Salmaan's much-awaited Solo. Bollywood sees another release in the form of Tu Hai Mera Sunday. Across the seas we see a major release from Hollywood — the Ryan Gosling-Harrison Ford starrer Blade Runner 2049, a movie that has everyone waiting with bated breath.
What's it about: Chef is the Hindi adaptation of Jon Favreau's 2014 Hollywood film by the same name. Raja Krishna Menon's Chef is the unique story of Roshan Kalra's journey on the path to finding true happiness, and in the process, rethinking his priorities and realising what truly matters. Food, family and love are the main themes which this movie is centered around, with a father rediscovering and strengthening the bond with his son forming the plot's nuclues.
Who is in it: Saif Ali Khan, Padmapriya Janakiraman, Dhanish Karthik, Dinesh Prabhakar, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Neha Saxena, Svar Kamble, Shayan Munshi and Russell Peters.
Why it may work: Saif Ali Khan has hit the ball out of the park on several occasions, and for some reason Chef seems like the kind of movie where his acting prowess would be showcased well, in our opinion. It will also be interesting to see Bollywood taking on a remake head-on and seeing what they do with it.
Tu Hai Mera Sunday
What's it about: Five friends find respite in the hectic city of Mumbai via a ritualistic game of football every Sunday at Juhu Beach. One day they are faced with an obstacle. The movie then chronicles the story of friendship, human bonds, sports and love — all of which brings the characters together.
Who is in it: Barun Sobti, Shahana Goswami, Vishal Malhotra, Avinash Tiwary, Rasika Duggal, Nakul Bhalla, Maanvi Gagroo, Jay Upadhyay and Shiv Subramaniam
Why it may work: The movie has a talented star-cast with nuanced performances. The story line seems fresh. It will be interesting to see how this multi-star ensemble cast plays off each other.
What's it about: Solo is a bilingual movie oscillating between Tamil and Malayalam. It is touted to be an experimental romantic thriller, directed and written by Bejoy Nambiar. An anthology that shows the interaction of the four main characters with the four elements — Earth, Fire, Wind, Water — and the corresponding stories that come about thereafter.
Who is in it: Dulquer Salmaan, Dino Morea, Sai Dhanshika, Sai Tamhankar, Neha Sharma, Deepti Sati, Sruthi Hariharan, Manoj K Jayan and Govind Menon
Why it may work: The movie seems to be based on an interesting concept. The film also marks Dino Morea's debut in Mollywood, which should be interesting to watch. Apart from that, Dulquer Salmaan's throng of fans are surely awaiting the release of this film!
Blade Runner 2049
What's it about: Blade Runner 2049's timeline runs 30 years after the events of the previous film. A new blade runner is introduced — LAPD's Officer K, as he uncovers a long-buried secret that can potentially plunge the society into chaos and anarchy. Gosling's discovery leads to his character pairing up with Harrison Ford's on screen Rick Deckard, and the rest as we say, is history.
Who is in it: Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Jared Leto, Dave Bautista, Mackenzie Davis
Why it may work: The pairing between Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford is definitely the top-most reason why this movie might work, as the possibilities have audiences excited world-over.
