Actor Ranveer Singh has expressed an interest in producing and directing, following in the footsteps of many other noteworthy Bollywood actors that have gone down the same route.
On the production front, Singh feels that his business acumen is not too good, and so if he were to venture into production, it would be as the creative producer on a project. The actor has expressed his interest in 'creatively curating' a project.
Talking about the movies that he would like to make upon turning producer, Singh said, “I would like to back a novel idea. It would be something mainstream, something that has a universal theme that kids can watch, appreciate and enjoy. A very young film for teenagers, maybe," according to a DNA report.
Singh also speaks very highly of his contemporaries Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor. “Anushka and I more or less started our careers together, so I am very, very proud of what she is doing. My best wishes are with Ranbir. I admire him for backing a novel story in the way that he has, in his first outing as a producer and I am especially appreciative of everything that Priyanka is doing for regional cinema," said Singh according to the same DNA report.
However, as far as direction is concerned, he feels he is 'not ready to direct a film' just yet. Singh hinted at some ideas that he has been working on with respect to directing, stating that he has some stories that he is 'excited to tell', however the actor feels that he still has a lot to learn about the craft of direction, and needs to acquire plenty more life experience before he helms a project.
Whether it is Ranbir Kapoor turning producer for his upcoming adventure film Jagga Jasoos, or Priyanka Chopra and Anushka Sharma setting up their own production houses and churning out movies like NH10, Phillauri, and National Award winning Bam Bam Bol Raha Hai Kashi — Bollywood has seen many actors follow the producer-director path.
Workwise, Singh is finishing up Sanjay Leela Bhansali's next period drama Padmavati also starring Deepika Padukone, after which he will move on to Gully Boy, directed by Zoya Akhtar. Gully Boy will see Singh's maiden pairing with actress Alia Bhatt.
