A Meerut court has accepted a plea against actress Rakhi Sawant on Friday, stating that her dress with Modi's pictures on it was disrespectful to Prime Minister Modi.
A local NGO, Progressive Women Welfare Society, filed the petition after the former Bigg Boss contestant wore the controversial dress to an Independence Day event in the US.
Lata, vice president of the NGO, said to The Times of India, "By wearing such a dress, Sawant has degraded the position of the Prime Minister not just in India but also across the world."
The first hearing of the case, that has been filed under the public indecency and defamation sections of the Indian Penal Code, will be on August 17.
Speaking to Firstpost from Chicago, the controversy queen said, "I have got this dress made from all my heart and love for our dear prime minister. He is the best PM and I am representing him in the US. I just want to tell people: 'Don’t waste your time creating controversies over my dress, instead take care of your family. There are more serious issues in India that needs to be dealt with, like rape of little girls, farmers committing suicide...So live and let live and don’t waste your time on my dress. Love you guys."
She further claimed that the dress was approved by the BJP and if Modi denies that he can put her behind bars. Now she even plans to design a sari with his images on it.
