Priyanka Chopra had produced the 2016 Marathi film Ventilator, which went on to become a hit. The actor-singer is now on board to produce the Malayalam version of the film, as reported by Deccan Chronicle.
Priyanka's mother Madhu Chopra, who also manages Purple Pebble Pictures, Priyanka's production house, confirmed the news.
“Yes, we just signed a contract for the remake of Ventilator in Malayalam, and Priyanka will be co-producing it,” she told the publication.
Ventilator is a touching story about family and relationships. In the film, Gajju Kaka, the senior-most member of a family slips into coma just a few days before Chaturthi.
His demise would mean a long and painful period of mourning during the time of festivity. Everyone in the family visits him at the hospital for different reasons, which makes it a highly sentimental film, brimming with tear-jerking instances.
Directed by Rajesh Mapuskar, it stars Ashutosh Gowariker, Jitendra Joshi, Sulabha Arya and Sukanya Kulkarni- Mone.
Madhu also told Deccan Chronicle that she is not apprehensive about language being a barrier, as she understands Malayalam. However, she maintained that the South Indian industry is huge and hence, could be intimidating.
It is safe to say that regional cinema is gradually claiming its space in the cinematic foreground. With the likes of Priyanka Chopra supporting regional films, which otherwise have a very limited audience, one could expect a rise in both the popularity and number of films being made across cultures in India. She is also producing a film based in Sikkim, titled Pahuna directed by Paakhi Tyrewala.
