Prasoon Joshi clarifies absence on first day of duty: 'CBFC chairman need not micromanage'
The pleasant news of lyricist and ad filmmaker Prasoon Joshi replacing Pahlaj Nihalani as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chief was followed by Joshi reporting ill and giving his first day of duty a miss.
Now, The Times of India reports that he has clarified his position following criticism that came his way for being absent on his first day of duty. The same report quotes him as saying, "The CBFC chairman and Board don't need to micromanage everyday proceedings or look into every film's nitty-gritty personally. This is not a correct understanding and if this is the manner this role got understood in the past for some reasons, it is not accurate."
He added that he is currently occupied with getting up to speed about the functioning of the CBFC along with his fellow new Board members. He also assured the doubters that there is a fully functional staff at CBFC which manage the day today operations and that he will always be available to guide and supervise the staff whenever they need his assistance.
Joshi has replaced Nihalani as the CBFC chairperson after the controversial former chief was sacked by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, putting an end to his infamous stint.
