Oscars 2018: Tom Hanks' throwback pic to Jimmy Kimmel's pre-event jitters, best celebrity tweets
The 90th Academy Awards kicked off in style — and an entire half hour early — at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on the evening of 4 March 2018 (5 March, 5 am for us here in India).
The celebrities may not have opted for sartorial statements about movements like #MeToo and Times's Up, unlike the all-black attire at the Golden Globes, or the Time's Up pins that many celebrities chose to wear, but these issues were very much part of Oscars 2018 anyway. From Salma Hayek crediting Ashley Judd to come out with her own story of harassment by Harvey Weinstein to Judd and Mira Sorvino making an appearance together — the 2018 Oscars didn't shy away from the big issues. In the midst of the seriousness, there were a few light-hearted ones too, most notably the tweets that celebrities sent out on their way to the big awards night.
Here's a look at what they had to say:
Host Jimmy Kimmel took a dig at the big Best Picture goof-up from the 2017 Oscars, when La La Land was mistakenly announced as the winner instead of Moonlight. This funny video also features a guest appearance by Warren Beatty (who had presented the award along with Faye Dunaway).

He needn't have worried, because there were plenty of folks rooting for him, including former Oscars host Ellen DeGeneres.

Kimmel also seemed to have quite the bromance going with filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro, whose The Shape of Water was a leading contender for the top prize at the 90th Academy Awards.

Tom Hank is now quite the Oscars veteran. So when his wife, the actress Rita Wilson, posted a photo of their very first appearance at the Academy Awards, it made for a very cute throwback.

Meanwhile, Kumail Nanjiani and wife Emily V Gordon — whose Big Sick was in contention for Best Script — posted this cheeky picture while on their way to the Dolby Theatre.

Then there was Get Out actor Lakeith Stanfield's entire Twitter feed, which was just one funny tweet after another. Our favourite? His Taraji P Henson fanboy moment.
Taraji just screamed GET OUT at me. I mean....i can quote Baby Boy if you want me to....my point is WE ALL GOT QUOTABLES haha

Actress and singer Rita Moreno teased the outfit she'd wear to the Oscars with a tweet.
Wait till you see what I'm wearing!!! https://t.co/X9oem3aPdO

Turned out, Moreno wore the same dress as she did back when she won the Oscar in 1962 for Westside Story!
And Reese Witherspoon had a sweet little message for her Hollywood peers.
Overwhelmed, excited and truly humbled, I will never forget this moment. March 5, 2006. I am thinking about every nominee today & congratulating them on the incredible hard work that got them to this place. Have a great night! You are all winners. ❤️🙌❤️ #Oscars #WalkTheLine pic.twitter.com/vRb8beWeW4
