Netflix to helm two Indian originals, Selection Day and Again; Amy Jackson in talks for another series

Streaming giant Netflix is coming up with an original series based on writer Aravind Adiga's novel Selection Day. The series is titled Selection Day, too, and will narrate a compelling coming-of-age story of cricket and corruption, which explores the glory and rivalry in Mumbai.

"We are excited to be expanding our slate of originals in India. These projects have specifically local subjects, but will be great for our global audience, and are supported by world class talent." said Erik Barmack, VP of international original series at Netflix.

It will be produced in partnership with Seven Stories.

"When I first read Selection Day, I was completely overwhelmed by the scale and ambition of Aravind's vision - and moved to my core by its emotional power...We are delighted to be working with Netflix on what feels like a new chapter in the age of global storytelling, and we are bowled over by Erik and his team's passion for this story," said Anand Tucker, CEO of Seven Stories.

Apart from the show based on novel, Netflix's second original, Again, will be a supernatural detective series and written by Marisha Mukerjee. Mukherjee is known for writing shows such as Quantico and Justified.

Set in New Delhi, the plot will be led by a female homicide detective, who must put her career and life on the line when a recent murder connects to closed cases from her past, proving she has a serial killer to catch.

Excited about her book being adapted into a series by Netflix, Mukherjee said, "When it comes to telling groundbreaking evocative stories, I cannot think of a better partner than Netflix to bring this show to India and to audiences across the globe."

In a new development, Amy Jackson has been approached by Netflix for another web-series, as per DNA. The actress who was in Los Angeles recently, said she had gone their to hold talks about the series itself.

Jackson is currently shooting for her upcoming 2.0 film opposite Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar. the film is slated for a 25 January, 2018 release.
