Neil Nitin Mukesh plays Sanjay Gandhi in Madhur Bhandarkar's next Indu Sarkar
Neil Nitin Mukesh, who recently got married to Rukmini Sahay, has resumed the shooting of Madhur Bhandarkar's next, Indu Sarkar. A leaked picture from the set suggests that Neil plays political leader Sanjay Gandhi in the film.
The still replicates the memorable picture of Sanjay whispering into the ears of his mother, then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, at a public event. From the costume to the expression, Neil looks like a carbon copy of Sanjay, as he whispers into the ears of Supriya Vinod, who plays Indira.
While it is not known whether there will be any direct references to the Gandhi family in the film, this picture speaks volumes.
Mid-Day reports that Kirti Kulhari, who was lauded for her performance in Aniruddha Roy Choudhary's courtroom drama Pink last year, will play the lead in Indu Sarkar. She will portray a stammering poetess who rebels against the system.
Mumbai Mirror reports that the film is set during the Emergence period which lasted for 21 months, from 1975 to 1977, during the reign of Indira and speculates the role of her son Sanjay in implementing the drastic move.
The same report states that music composers Anu Malik and Bappi Lahiri have joined forces to come up with the music of this film.
As far as Neil's look in the film is concerned, the report by Mid-Day states that it took around six to eight months to get his physical appearance right.
Renowned prosthetic make-up artistes were flown from abroad to get the most nuanced facial look for Neil's character. The actor has been prepping for his role as well as he has been reading extensively on Sanjay and the history of the Gandhi family, with special focus on the Emergency episode.
The report by Mumbai Mirror states that Bhandarkar plans to wrap up the shoot of Indu Sarkar in 45 days. The film will release sometime this year.
