Namastey England: Arjun Kapoor to star in sequel of Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif-starrer

Ten years after Namastey London, starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, released, it has now been confirmed that a sequel titled Namastey England will be made. This film will see Arjun Kapoor essay the role of an Indian romeo who falls in love with an ambitious Punjabi girl.

A source speaking to Mumbai Mirror said that Kapoor was eager to be part of the project; he has watched the first installment thrice, and was interested in the cultural conflict and script of the second.

"Arjun was keen because the franchise provides a unique perspective on how Indians are looked at internationally and vice versa. But he wanted to make sure that Akshay had no problems about the franchise moving forward without him, before signing on the dotted line. Last month, Akshay and Vipul [Amrutlal Shah], who have been close friends and have collaborated on a dozen films over the last two decades, mutually agreed to go ahead with Arjun. The film will roll early 2018 and like the original, will be shot in Punjab and the UK," said the source.

Dismissing rumours of a fall-out between him and director Vipul Amrutlal Shah, Akshay Kumar said that he gave a nod to this casting choice for Namastey England before he could begin work for Reema Kagti's Gold. It was earlier rumoured that he would be part of this sequel.

The lead characters' personalities closely resemble the ones Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif essayed in the 2007 film. In the first installment, Kaif plays Jazz, who has a British love interest, who has royal lineage, and Kumar plays the Indian man her father wants her to marry. The source reveals that the Kapoor-starrer will appeal to expats and have a Brit-Punjabi flavour. While the male lead is a mischievous man who is deeply rooted in Indian culture, the female lead is ambitious and lured by glamour; she wishes to move to the UK.

Namastey England is primarily a love story, but will also include another young female actor in a supporting role. The two female leads of the film are yet to be cast, but Mumbai Mirror reports speculations that Parineeti Chopra is being considered for the film.
