Actor Dileep, who is a suspect in the abduction and assault case of a Malayalam actress, is currently in the Aluva sub-jail and has been at the receiving end of hate on social media. It was recently reported that his official website — dileeponline.com — was down as a result of being hacked.
It is being speculated that this hacking is a result of the hate he has received from his own fans and fans of the Malayalam actress in question. Currently, when the website is searched for on Google, the link appears with the description 'Official Website of Malayalam Criminal Dileep. Get latest updates, news, images and more'. But when it is clicked on, the viewer is told that the site is "performing some maintenance at the moment".
Following Dileep's arrest, there has been a polarisation of opinions regarding the actor. While crowds of people yelled slogans such as 'Welcome to Central Jail' against him when he appeared before court and jail, he has also found unwavering support amid die-hard fans.
Fan pages on Facebook have been putting out messages in an effort to make him seem innocent in the public eye. Initially, even the Association of Malayalam Movie Actors (AMMA) came out in support of him and openly protected him, with president Innocent feigning ignorance about the assault case.
On 15 July, Dileep was denied bail by the court and has returned to jail custody. The police provided 19 pieces of evidence against him and an interrogation probing into his involvement as a conspirator continues. The abduction and assault of the Malayalam actress took place when she was travelling from Thrissur to Kochi by car on 17 February. Pulsar Suni, her driver and the main accused, is currently in jail.
During initial questioning rounds by the police, the actor denied knowing Suni despite his name appearing in letters from the jail Suni is currently in. The police alleged that he was seeking revenge against the actress because she was responsible for the ending of his marriage to Manju Warrier.
