Actor-director-singer-writer Farhan Akhtar's upcoming film Lucknow Central has garnered a lot of attention ever since the trailer of the film was launched on 27 July.
There are many reasons behind this buzz — first, it is a Farhan Akhtar film, hence there is curiosity around the project, as he is known for "quality" films in the industry along with his sister Zoya Akhtar. Second, it is a prison-break film, which is a global favourite movie genre. Third, it also revolves around a music band that performs gigs within the prison's premises. All these factors make this film quite an anticipated watch.
The new song from the film, 'Kaavaan Kaavaan', was launched on 3 August and it is an upbeat bhangra number that is a reprise version of the song of the same name from Mira Nair's 2001 film, Monsoon Wedding which was sung by Sukhwinder Singh. The latest version has been rendered by singer Divya Kumar and has been composed by Arjunna Harjaie. The lyrics have been written by Kumar.
The feel of the song is the foot-thumping, quintessential 'Punjabbi' rhythm and reflects the prisoners' passion, rebellion, despair and hope.
It features Akhtar, Gippy Grewal, Deepak Dobriyal, Inaamulhaq and Rajesh Sharma singing, playing instruments. The film also stars Ronit Roy as an antagonist and Diana Penty as an activist. Directed by Ranjit Tiwari and produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Emmay Entertainment, Lucknow Central is slated to release on 15 September 2017.
