Joss Whedon recruited the Avengers (and all of Hollywood) to urge US citizens to vote
When the star studded casts of The Avengers, How I Met Your Mother, Community and Buffy the Vampire Slayer come together, you know it means serious business. Why has all of Hollywood’s A-list come together you ask? To urge the citizens of the United States to ‘save the date’ i.e. 8 November 2016.
The stars deem that this date, the day that the United States presidential election of 2016 will take place will be the chance for the denizens of the nation to engage in a necessary and heroic act. And considering how film and TV director, producer, composer and super nerd Joss Whedon’s company is behind this video, you’re sure to have some witty quips and satirical political commentary besides the “s*** ton of famous people”.
Whedon didn’t hesitate to take jabs at Presidential candidate Donald Trump in this video, with actor Don Cheadle calling him “a racist, abusive coward who could permanently damage the fabric of our society” in it. He was pretty candid about the objective of the PSA in an interview to Buzzfeed “There is almost nobody that I wouldn’t approach to say, ‘If you can pitch in, do it now…It was pretty much the same spiel to everybody: ‘Doing a voting PSA to help get out the vote and stop orange Muppet Hitler.’”
Mark Ruffalo’s hilarious promise in this ‘Important PSA’ is probably one of the most unforgettable moments in the video. Whedon even made a comeback on Twitter for this campaign; he left the site after receiving death threats on Black Widow criticism.
Here’s a list of nearly all the celebrities who made an appearance in this viral video.
Robert Downey Jr.
Yvette Nicole Brown
