John McLaughlin and The Fourth Dimension to perform in Mumbai with Ranjit Barot, Niladri Kumar on 8 and 9 February
With jazz music continuing to find wide appreciation in the city, Mumbai will now witness a two-day extravaganza presented by Grammy-winning artist and jazz fusion maestro John McLaughlin on 8 and 9 February. The guitarist-composer and his band The Fourth Dimension will be performing with a line-up of international artists — Cameroonian bassist Etienne Mbappe, British pianist and drummer Gary Husband, and Mumbai-based drummer Ranjit Barot. Barot is the artistic director for The Quarter, Royal Opera House, which is the venue for this jazz event.
The Fourth Dimension is McLaughlin's longest-running ensemble. Since its inception in 2007, it has released five albums, one of which was the Grammy-nominated To The One. Fans of the band and the composer can look forward to material from McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra songbook, and tracks from the 2015 album Black Light, and the 2017 album Live at Ronnie Scott's on the first day. On the second day, there will be a variation in the playlist and the band will be accompanied by revered musician Niladri Kumar on the sitar.
John McLaughlin is a UK-based artist but his fusion music is a melange of Indian classical music, blues and flamenco. This year, he won the Grammy for Best Improvised Jazz Solo for Miles Beyond from the album Live at Ronny Scott's. His 70s band, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, stood out for combining electric jazz and rock with Indian sounds.
The performance begins at 8 pm on 8 and 9 February. Special premium seats for both days include food and beverages, a meet-and-greet with the artist and one poster of the band. Tickets can be purchased here for the first day, and here for the second. For inquiries, call +91-83291-10638.
