Based on the 2007 motion picture by the same name, and written by the late Adrienne Shelly, Waitress has four women in the four top creative team spots.
It follows an expert pie maker in a small town named Jenna, who dreams of a way out of her loveless marriage with her husband Earl. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town's new physician, Dr. Pomatter, may offer her a chance at a new life.
In the original comedy drama Waitress, Jenna was played by Keri Russell, her husband Earl was portrayed by Jeremy Sisto, while Dr. Jim Pomatter was depicted by Nathan Fillion.
The musical feature's songs were written by Bareilles, with whom Mraz recorded the songs 'Bad Idea' and 'You Matter to Me' on her 2015 album What's Inside: Songs From Waitress.
