Earlier, it was reported that the Ranbir Kapoor-Katrina Kaif-starrer, Jagga Jasoos, has a sequel lined up as the makers of the film Anurag Basu and Ranbir Kapoor have already chalked out the basic concept of the next installment. However, the film's underwhelming performance at the box-office post its release on 14 July has made the makers to reconsider their plans, reports DNA.
"When we planned Jagga Jasoos, we already thought of making its sequel. In this movie I am searching for my father, and the way this movie is made, I am sure my grandchildren are going to be searching for me in the sequel," said Ranbir, as quoted by DNA.
"We have left the film on a cliffhanger, where it needs a part two or three. If they accept it, then we would love to take the character and the genre forward," said Ranbir, who turned producer for the film, as per a previous report by Firstpost.
He also added that their [Jagga Jasoos] team earlier wanted to do a spin-off or an origin story but the plans were shelved after Jagga Jasoos took more than three years to make.
According to DNA's latest report, Basu had in fact written the film as an ongoing series, much like his idol Satyajit Ray wrote and filmed the adventures of Feluda. But since the audience's response towards Jagga Jasoos was not encouraging enough, the plans to churn out the sequels/spin-offs have been shelved.
However, no official confirmation has come up either from Basu or Kapoor.
Jagga Jasoos also stars Saswata Chatterjee, Sayani Gupta and Evelyn Sharma. It is co-produced by Walt Disney India, Kapoor's Picture Shuru Productions and Basu's Ishana Movies.
