Isle of Dogs trailer: Wes Anderson brings us a dystopian mess set in future Japan

The trailer of Isle of Dogs just released, and it is a dystopian mess, to put it mildly. [caption id=“attachment_4070541” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Youtube screen grab from the trailer of Isle of Dogs.[/caption] Helmed by Wes Anderson who is lauded for directing The Grand Budapest Hotel, Isle of Dogs takes us on a journey to futuristic Japan, and has voice overs by the talented Scarlett Johansson, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton, Yoko Ono and Bill Murray. In the trailer we see that dogs have been banished to an island of garbage after there was a severe outbreak of canine flu. This island has the dogs living in decrepit conditions as they waste away; on the edge of losing their morale and giving up. The movie then follows the odyssey of a young 12-year-old boy who bravely ventures onto the island in the search of his lost dog Spots, and is helped by a pack of five dogs in his endeavour to find his missing pet. It’s interesting to see that the Isle of Dogs trailer shows the utilisation of the same stop-motion animation that we saw before in Anderson’s 2009 movie — an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox. This is Anderson’s first movie after The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) , a critically acclaimed film that was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Anderson was reportedly inspired by director Akira Kurosawa of Seven Samurai and Rashomon fame. Isle of Dogs is all set to hit the theaters on 23 March, 2018. Watch the trailer of Isle of Dogs here
