Raabta's Ik Vaari Aa: Arjit Singh, Pritam, Amitabh Bhattacharya reunite for an underwhelming song
Pritam, Arijit Singh and Amitabh Bhattacharya reunite yet again after Karan Johar's romantic drama Ae Dil Hai Muskil from last year.
They unified their creative energies to create yet another romantic number 'Ik Vaari Aa' for Dinesh Vijan's directorial debut, the upcoming romantic thriller Raabta.
But the sad part is that they fail to create magic. Since Arijit Singh has become the voice of romance for every second movie these days, it would take a unique composition and fresh lyrics to stand out.
But Pritam under performs on that front. While the song is nonetheless catchy, the only reason it has a good recall value is because it is forced down one's throat.
The song features Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon departing at the start of the video. Thanks to their karmic connection or 'raabta', they imagine the other person accompanying them every second in spite of the fact that they are hundreds or perhaps thousands of miles away.
One detail that catches the viewer's eye, however, is when Rajput's character boards the train. He has only one earplug inserted in his ear while the other one lies suspended. As the thought of abandoning Sanon's character dominates his mind, the one earplug detail hints at how incomplete he feels without the other earplug.
Also, since the trailer of Raabta was so layered, the romantic song comes across as uni-dimensional. However, Jim Sarbh appears at the end of the video to maintain the intrigue around the plot of the film.
Raabta also stars Rajkummar Rao and Deepika Padukone in cameos. It is co-produced by Vijan and Homi Adajania's Maddock Films and Bhushan and Krishan Kumar's T-Series Films. It is slated to release on 9 June.
