IIFA Awards: From Hrithik's hits to Govinda's miss, men's fashion on the green carpet
The 18th IIFA awards will be held in New York this year over 14-15 July (15, 16th July, for the Indian audience). The grand two day celebration is known for championing Indian cinema and all the artists who have contributed in taking Hindi cinema beyond the realm of our own nation.
Well this is one of those lists. Except with a twist.
In my opinion, it's common knowledge that women have a monopoly over the fashion world. At least visually. We see models and actresses sporting different designers as we 'ooh' over the cut of her dress, 'aah' over the colour of her heels, and 'eww' over her hair and make-up.
So we decided to do a fashion roundup. An all men fashion roundup wherein we ridicule, relish and relive the outfits that the leading males of Bollywood have sported at the IIFA Awards over the years.
Here's a look at all the trends that these men did (and did not) set
Neil Nitin Mukesh (2016)
Looking absolutely dapper in his blue ensemble, Neil Nitin Mukesh managed to attract all the right kind of attention with this look. This blue and brown colour combination might have made anyone else look like dried seaweed, however on Mukesh it's just dreamy AF. If only his movies made such a lasting impression...
Ranveer Singh (2016)
Ranveer Singh was seen at last year's IIFA wearing this Tom Ford suit. The masses seemed to have loved this look and personally we were highly offended. How anyone can think Singh looks like anything other than the shiny scales on a reptile is beyond us. However, the general populace adored this ensemble (pronounced 'en-somb' for the same plebeian folks that found this look 'dashing'. Pffft).
Ayushmann Khurrana (2000-2016)
Errr. We're not entirely sure how to feel about the various fashion choices that actor-singer Ayushmann Khurrana has made over the course of IIFA's history however we'll give it to the boy — at least he's not afraid to experiment (even if it is with turquoise blue jeans....)
Hrithik Roshan (2000-2016)
Here we have Adonis looking fiiiiine in his various avatars. Did we say Adonis? Sorry, we meant Greek God. Dammit, our keyboard keeps messing up! No, but really. Hrithik Roshan is the one celebrity on this list that has managed to impress anyone and everyone even though he has donned various risque attires through the years.
Apparently Govinda thought it was okay to turn up to an international award function like this. Then he wonders why his cameo from Jagga Jasoos was scrapped...
Dino Morea - Arjun Rampal - Farhan Akhtar (2009)
All these beautiful men donned vastly different looks at the 2009 IIFA Awards that were held in the United Kingdom. While Morea looked like a wealthy Arab, Arjun Rampal did what he does best — look delicious. Farhan Akhtar decided that he may or may not care about the award show at all, but he's Farhan Akhtar so he's allowed.
Bobby Deol (2010)
Bobby Deol's T-shirt represents his Bollywood career.
Karan Johar (2016)
We're just going to leave this here...
Prateik Babbar (2012)
Prateik Babbar sported this quirky ensemble at the 13th edition of the IIFA Awards and we don't know exactly what to say. Does he look like a raincoat? Yes. But does he look weird? Also, yes.
Manish Paul (2016)
Okay we may be in the minority here, but Manish Paul's whacky 2016 ensemble has us smiling appreciatively. Anyone who can wear two pairs of sunglasses on their person at the same time and not look completely ridiculous deserves some recognition.
Arshad Warsi (and his yellow shades ; 2012 & 2014)
Here are some images of Arshad Warsi at the IIFA Awards looking like your friendly neighbourhood ticket collector.
