Actor-politician Hema Malini is all set to turn singer with the launch of her new bhajan album titled Gopala Ko Samarpan. The album, which is a collection of eight tracks, will be launched on Janmashtami, 13 August at ISKCON temple in Mumbai, reports Times of India.
Pandit Jasraj, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Rajan-Sajan Mishra and Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, all of whom are pioneers of Indian music, have lent music to the devotional album.
The lyrics of the songs have been written by Narayan Agarwal who also writes for singers like Anup Jalota and Jagjit Singh.
Contrary to popular belief, this is not her singing debut. She had earlier sung for a Bengali album after being inspired by the great Kishore Kumar. That album, Gun Gun Kore Je Mon, went on to become a hit among listeners.
Malini also tells Times of India that she has spent over six months under the tutelage of her guru Gagan Singh. Although, nervous in the beginning, she managed to pull it off with dedicated practice. Apart from singing, she has also explained the essence of each song in her own words in the beginning.
Bollywood actors testing waters in the music industry is seems to be latest fad. Recently, Sonakshi Sinha was in the news for being roped in to judge another bhajan reality show alongside Baba Ramdev.
