Heavy metal's power couple Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne split after 33 years of marriage
Their 33-year marriage made them among heavy metal’s power couples. But this week, news reports emerged that former Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne and his wife and manager Sharon have decided to separate. Sharon, for whom Ozzy had famously written the song Mama, I'm Coming Home, is credited with having saved (following his ouster from Black Sabbath), sustained (after helping him set up his solo career) and propelled his career to stratospheric heights, with Ozzfest, numerous reunion tours etc. It remains to be seen if this marital split will lead to a business split and affect the upcoming Sabbath shows.
Reports stated that Ozzy, 67, had moved out of the mansion he shares with Sharon in Los Angeles, after she suspected him of having an affair with an unnamed celebrity hair-dresser. The reports of the split had sparked off speculation over whether or not Ozzy had relapsed into substance abuse— however, it has been clarified that this is not the case, and that the rocker has not broken his sobriety. "At this time, Ozzy is not in their marital home," a spokesperson for the couple told Rolling Stone magazine.
It isn’t clear yet if Sharon and Ozzy are divorcing. Some media outlets said that the separation was temporary.
In 2013, Sharon and Ozzy had sparked divorce rumours over the latter’s drug and alcohol addiction. While admitting that Ozzy had suffered a relapse, Sharon clarified that the couple was not planning to separate.
Sharon and Ozzy got married in 1982 and have three children together — Aimee, Kelly and Jack. The family (with the exception of Aimee) had featured in a popular reality TV show, The Osbournes, from 2002-2005.
Sharon and Ozzy are believed to have had a volatile relationship in their earlier years, with the rocker allegedly nearly blacking out and strangling his wife after a five-day vodka binge.
