A new poster of Apurva Lakhiya's upcoming crime biopic Haseena Parkar, that released on 14 July, featured Shraddha Kapoor embracing domesticity and her family as a glimpse into the personal life of Haseena Parkar, the sister of notorious don Dawood Ibrahim.
Now, the trailer of the film is out and it treads on a typical path of a crime drama. While it is refreshing to have a female protagonist, the makers could have pulled it off better with a more expressive, if not an experienced actor. Shraddha Kapoor, despite the prosthetic and costume, never convinces the viewer to believe that they are watching Haseena onscreen. Her easily distinguishable voice and patented dialogue delivery style pierces through all the cosmetic enhancements.
Her brother, Siddhanth Kapoor, on the other hand, makes impact even in the little that he has to do in the trailer. It is probably his freshness that adds to his ability to pull off a young Dawood convincingly.
The rest of the trailer commendably explores Haseena's life which has been eclipsed by the more happening and newsworthy life of her brother. However, the premise of the film suggests that her life was much more humane, and hence more interesting, than her brother's.
The dialogues in the trailer grab the viewers' attention but they find it difficult to sustain it given the pacey treatment of the trailer. Also, it is extremely loud in certain portions whereas low in intensity in the others which makes the trailer come across as inconsistent rather than balanced.
Haseena Parkar is slated to release on 18 August.
