Ye Half Girlfriend kya hota hai? A pertinent question that Arjun Kapoor asks in a half-baked Bihari accent in the teaser of Mohit Suri's upcoming romantic comedy Half Girlfriend. It features Arjun reading out of a Hindi version of Chetan Bhagat's novel from which the film is adapted.

Arjun, who is dressed in a navy blue sweatshirt, plays Madhav Jha, a Bihari student in the film. It is refreshing to see that his character does not resort to any stereotypical Bihari outfit and is in fact projected as a progressive, educated guy. However, his Bihari accent comes across so orchestrated that it distracts you from the narrative.

The sad part is that the teaser lasts for under a minute. It will be a pain to watch the near three hour long film if his unconvincing accent continues to divert the viewers' attention.

Neither the diction nor the style is on spot. It is interesting that they've playes with the term 'half girlfriend', but a more rustic accent could have helped in delivering the idea to the audience.

The theatrical trailer of the film will be launched on 10 April. We fervently hope that Arjun's accent in the film is nothing like what we see in this teaser, and hopefully the trailer should vouch for that.

Half Girlfriend also stars Shraddha Kapoor, Rhea Chakraborty, Seema Biswas, Vikrant Massey and Chetan Bhagat. It is based on Bhagat's bestseller of the same name that released in 2014. It is co-produced by Bhagat, Suri and Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor's Balaji Motion Pictures. It is slated to release on 19 May.
