Welcome to the world of double entendres.
India's premier sex comedy series, Great Grand Masti, comes out on 15th July 2016, after the first two movies, Masti and Grand Masti opened to good collections at the box office. But apart from a gazillion sexual puns and comical tropes bordering on the vulgar, the Masti series is famously known for being regressive, and for its objectification of women (although which Indian film that calls itself a sexy comedy isn't?)
In the tradition of Bollywood's sex comedies, (look at Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 and Mastizaade) no one is going to hold the screenwriter accountable for forgetting to give a story-line to the film. It's disheartening because nobody seems to have told the makers of these films that you can make a funny movie around sexual escapades without offending half a country.
So instead of wasting your time going to the cinema and watching Great Grand Masti, here are a few sex comedies that actually have interesting plot lines to go with them:
Seth (Jonnah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera) are best friends who are going through the last week of high school. They have always been shunned by the popular kids but they luck out when they receive an invite to a popular kids party.
They plan to illegally acquire alcohol and hopefully meet some girls to kick-start their sex lives, so they can go off to college with their newly acquired skills. Trouble ensues when their nerdy friends gets embroiled in a tiff with two cops. Written by Seth Rogen and Even Goldberg, this sex-comedy is a great coming of age story too.
4o Year Old Virgin (2005)
40 year old Andy Stitzer (Steve Carell) is an amiable single guy who lives alone and spends his free time playing video games and curating his action-figure collection. Despite his age, Andy has never had sex, so his friend David (Paul Rudd), push Andy towards losing his virginity. While attempting to get over his awkwardness around female customers, Andy meets local shop owner Trish (Catherine Keener), and they begin a tentative romance.
Van Wilder (The whole series) (2002-2009)
If you want to look at Ryan Reynold films before Deadpool came out, look no further. Van Wilder (Ryan Reynolds) is an extremely popular and charismatic student at his college who has been in school for eight years. For the past seven semesters he has made no effort to graduate, instead spending his time organising parties and doing charity.Trouble ensues when Van's father (Tim Matheson) decides it is time to cut his losses and stops paying Van's tuition.
Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008)
Lifelong friends and roommates Zack and Miri Zack (Seth Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) are facing hard times and a mountain of debt. When their electricity gets cut off they realise they need a way to make quick money and seize the idea of making a homegrown porn movie for some fast cash. Though the two vow that having sex will not ruin their platonic friendship, they fall in love.
Scott (Scott Mechlowicz), gets dumped by his girlfriend just after graduation. He turns to his online pen pal Mieke from Germany in order to get a passing grade in his high school German class. When he finds out Mieke is actually a blonde girl (Jessica Böhrs) instead of a guy, he travels to meet her with his pals Cooper (Jacob Pitts), Jenny (Michelle Trachtenberg), and Jamie (Travis Wester). The group of teens head to Berlin by way of London, Paris, and Amsterdam.
This iconic movie is one of the most famous teenage comedies out there. Watch it to see how Michelle Trachtenberg started out and if you are looking for a fun light 2 hour comedy.
